actually, CPU socket type isn't all too important to me...the two ISA slots are all that really matter. As far as the other specs go, I'll pretty much take what I can get. I don't need high end sound or video or anything like that. As long as the processor speed is reasonable, it doesn't...
Is there anywhere I can buy a motherboard with 2 ISA slots? I need to replace a computer at work, and the new computer must have 2 ISA slots. I could just buy a new computer from the company that supplied the original PC, but they are going to charge $5000, which is ridiculous. If at all...
yeah, it is pretty old...I just built a new PC to replace this one, but they want to save it (and add more memory if possible) to replace an even older computer.
I'm adding memory to a computer at work...right now it has 1x256MB PC700 RDRAM plus a continuity module (there are only 2 slots, 512MB max capacity). I know I have to match the memory size and add another 256MB RIMM...but do I need to also match the PC700 as well, or can I add PC800? If I have...
Does anybody know where I could find a relatively inexpensive subwoofer for my PC? I have a Dell AS501 soundbar, which has a sub-out RCA type connection, but I can't find anywhere that I can purchase just a subwoofer to connect to the output. Dell doesn't make such a subwoofer, so does anyoen...
creative just released a beta version of the 64 bit driver for their soundblaster live! 5.1 cards. the driver wasn't available when i looked yesterday, but it is up this morning.
i'm pretty sure XP won't let you remove one of your main drives...if you try, it should give you a warning/error. so you shouldn't have to worry about accidentally clicking the 'remove' option...even if you do, nothing should really happen.
haha, yeah, that's why i'm asking...i'm not willing to actually try it out and see what happens...i was hoping someone else would know the answer. I would hope it would just give you an error or something saying that hot swapping that drive is not allowed.
I'm not planning on actually doing this at all...was just curious what would happen. The reason I ask is that my mobo supports hot swapping, and I currently only have 1 SATA drive installed (and therefore this is the drive that contains XP). I was wondering what would happen if I were to...
I understand how you could move other hard drives in and out, but what would happen if you were to accidentally tell windows to remove the drive containing the OS like this? would it even let you? I haven't been willing to "try it and see" but it is one of those things I have just been curious...
well the 1704fpt is only $200 right now, while the 1905 is around $350. The 2001fp is about $450, and i couldn't find any deals on the 2005fpw, so that's really expensive.
I am not really interested in a wide screen monitor right now, so I can exclude the 2005fpw. if price were not an...
I'm looking to buy a new LCD monitor within the next day or two, and I was wondering if anyone had any advice in choosing between the Dell 1704fpt and the Dell 1905fp. I've been using the same 17" CRT monitor for the past 5 years or so, and I'm really looking forward to this upgrade. I have...
ok, well i guess i will RMA the PSU to newegg. once i get the new one, hopefully everything will work when i hook it all back up. it's pretty frustrating to have all the parts for a new system and have them just sitting there unusable because of something like this.
is it very common for...
I went out and bought a power supply tester today, and when I plug the PSU into the tester, the only LED that comes on is the +5VSB. All of the other LEDs stay off and the power supply does not turn on.
So does this mean the power supply is bad and I should RMA it? does a failing power...
ok, i've got a voltmeter and i'm looking at the power supply now. With nothing connected to the motherboard (just looking at the free cable), the 5VSB pin is a steady 5.03V, so that's good. With the PSU connected to the mobo, the green wire (power on) also reads a steady 5.03V. Pressing the...
assuming the power supply is fine (i haven't had the chance to check it yet...i have to wait til i get home from work), how would i tell whether the problem lies with the mobo or the CPU?
With a bad CPU and a good motherboard, wouldn't the system at least attempt to start up, ie fans would...
the surge protector isn't the problem, and the PSU is brand new and seems to be fine as well (i might bring a voltmeter home from work today to check it out)
could it be that something happened to the motherboard? i really don't know where to go from here. what could go wrong that would shut a computer off the 2nd time it turns on, and then make it so the computer is dead and won't turn on again (fans aren't even turning anymore)?
well, when it was working it was installed properly in the case. but then it turned off and wouldn't turn back on again, so i took the Motherboard back out of case and currently it is sitting on a cardboard box w, only the cpu, heatsink/fan, video card, and memory installed. still won' start...
I just finished putting together my new system. here are the specs:
Gigabyte K8N Ultra-SLI
AMD 64 3000+
Antec NeoPower 480 PSU
MSI GeForce 6600GT
2x512MB Kingston
I installed the motherboard, CPU w/ stock heatsink/fan, memory, video card, and PSU into the case. after making sure all...
