    CRT whine

Yeah, I had been running it at 1280x960@100Hz. I've got it backed down to 1280x960@85Hz and we'll see how well it does at that, though I belive I've had it as low as 1280x1024@75Hz and it still did it. I've only had the monitor a year (used, manufactured end 2001) and its been doing this a...

    CRT whine

Just tried it, didn't help. If I turn it off for about 30 seconds and back on it fixes it for about 10 minutes or so but that's probably hard on the monitor :(

    CRT whine

Every now and then my monitor will start to emit an extremely high pitched whine that drives me crazy! I did some searching on google and it seems some monitors do exibit this type of behavior but near as I can tell there's no solution to this. Monitor in question is a Mitsubishi Diamond Pro...

    Choosing an ISP

A friend of mine needs to choose an ISP and would prefer not to spend more than $10 a month. Now there's a ton of ISPs to choose from and I'm not sure which one I should go with. If someone could point me in the right direction to help her make a good choice it would be appreciated...

Once more to see if anyone can answer my last question otherwise I'll probably pay it safe and get the 500 model.

    Quiet, Quality Power Supply

I'd rather go with an S12 for the better effiency and quieter running (they're both fairly quiet though, quieter is all relative). The S12s are extremely efficent which should cut down on the heat in my room (now if only I could afford some LCDs to replace the heat pumping CRTs...) somewhat...

    Quiet, Quality Power Supply

I think I'll go with an S12 based on www.silentpcreview.com research. The question is do I go with the 430W @ $100 or the 500W @ $130. Now I know my computer (or chances are anything built in the foreseeable future) will pull even close too 430W, the issue is connectors. The difference...

    Quiet, Quality Power Supply

Nice link! :) It looks like the S12 series seems to be the verdict. The first model to come with a PCI-e connector is the 500W model and that's about $60 ($130 vs $70) more than most of the PSU's (like the Antec TruepowerII480). Though by getting an extremely strong (and quiet) PSU now...

    Quiet, Quality Power Supply

I've done some searching on Anandtech forums but couldn't really find an article/forum post on the subject. I'm upgrading my computer with the following: DFI Ultra-D NF4 Motherboard Athlon64 3000+ Venice core w/ Zalman CNPS700B-ALCu Heatsink Gigabyte X800 Silentpipe I'd like one that's...

    Gigabyte's silent X800

Yeah, a lot of people seem to be recomending that option. How difficult is it to install? Obviously it voids any warranty (though RMAing isn't the most painless of processes usually...). I've only ever installed a CPU heatsink on my XP1900 (Zalaman silent heatsink).

    Gigabyte's silent X800

Thank you, that's what I was lookign for :) I suppose the ultimate question that I think I've gotten answered but I will ask it anyhow is this: Will this card function in a room where it can get up to 32C in temp? I read another post about a SilentPipe 6600GTs in SLI that ran at 100C and...

    Rivatuner(test button)

Not sure if this will help or not. On my FX5900 the testing seems to work fine, it won't let you have a setting that will fubar your computer forcing you to reset. However, on my brother's 6600 vanilla it doesn't seem to work properly. The test will ALWAYS pass even if that setting will...

    Gigabyte's silent X800

Can anyone answer questions pertaining to heat? Is having a hotter running chip going to reduce the lifespan of the card? How hot is too hot? Does having it too hot damage it over time with heavy use? Anything else you can think of :)

Next gen $200 - $250 video cards, when?

I'm in the same boat. I need to do a complete overhaul but my options are pretty much a 6600GT/x800 at $180 or pay almost twice that for an 6800GT/x800XL as the 6800 and the x800 pro seem to be bad price/performance near as I can tell, they run about 250-280 and don't give significant benefit...

    Gigabyte GV-NX66T128VP update

How hot does it get with a single card? I've been debating getting a X800 SilentPipe and I'm trying to make sure I'm not going to fry my card. My room temp can get upto as high as 30C. Currently my room temp is 25C. My FX5900 says that my ambient temp is 35C, idle temp of 45C, load temp of 65C.

    Gigabyte's silent X800

That shouldn't be too bad. How hot is too hot for these cards? I know my FX5900 doesn't even throttle till 120C which to me seems way high.

    Gigabyte's silent X800

Hmm... How much are those and how hard are they to install? I've only ever installed a CPU heatsink before (on my Athlon XP). Also, this voids any warrenty it has correct (Though actually my parents have like a platinum card which has a replacement policy for any reason (even if you step on it...

    Gigabyte's silent X800

So 50C idle then? That's not much worse than my FX5900. Ambient temp is probably a bit higher since the heat is not being blown away. Sounds like no one has had any problems with this as long as you run it at stock speeds.

    Gigabyte's silent X800

How hot does it get? I've read several reviews of it and while they say it gets "hot" they don't say how hot and if its too hot. My computer typicly has an ambient temprature of 35-40C (according to my FX5900). The gpu (with a LOUD fan, which is why I'm considering this silent option) is...

    6600GT or X800 vanilla?

In Anand's review the Leadtek was one of the quietest cards comparativly speaking. I'll probably end up going with the X800. Is it just me or is the 6600GT a slightly more efficent card as in theory the X800 should be faster in all respects? (I am kind of prefrenced to Nvidia for various...

    6600GT or X800 vanilla?

Thanks, do you think that the 256MB version (or the PowerColor version) will also have the 2.0 ns RAM? Its only $15 more for double the memory so unless that would significantly hurt its overclocking potential I think I would probably go for that. I know on a card this low end the extra memory...

    6600GT or X800 vanilla?

Its just that I currently have a FX5900 (not dual slot leaf blower luckily) which is fairly loud when going full throttle. I'm hoping that neither of those cards would be that loud... Also on the Tom's Hardware (granted not the most unbiased site) the 6600GT wins in most everything except...

    7800GTX = 24 pp, 450 mhz core.

Right :) Nvidia and ATI have to make a profit on the computer GPUs. Console makers however usually LOSE money on the consoles and make it up in game sales. I think one estimate I heard for the PS3 is it was going to be $400 but actually cost the company $500 to make. multiply that by some...

    2x 2.1 Sound Systems = 1x Surround System?

Make sure you have the cord length (or a proper extension) to get the speakers behind you! Whats the best socket A processor out now?

Well I can run the RAM at 166 with an async 133fsb/166 ram, but the question is does that mean I can run the FSB at 166? Also the motherboard doesn't like if I over or underclock the PCI bus, it has dividers but I basicly have to run the FSB at 100/133/166/200/233 (doubt it goes upto 233...

Whats the best socket A processor out now?

Thought the unlocked multiplier would help there, and the board is rated at a 333 FSB (hence XP-333) Some of the reviews I saw got it upto 400. Mostly I would be putting off a full system overhaul until Nvidia puts out mainstream GF 7 series cards. Right now my current computer runs like crap...
