    is vista really this bad?

I have the ATI HDTV Wonder too. Check around on thegreenbutton.com forums for the Kram hack to get the analog tuner to work (its MUCH MUCH easier to get it to work in Vista than it is in XP MCE). I have it working in Vista MCE now. I don't need (want) ATI's software.

    Pre-RC1 Vista build 5536

I have a GeForce Go 6800. And the artifacts and glitches are getting worse. Its actually making it unusable for me. At least for me, this release seems to be buggy as hell. But it might just be some driver issues. I'm at work, so I can't tell if there's any updates or not for the hardware...

    Pre-RC1 Vista build 5536

I just installed it on my laptop. I don't really have an initial impression yet. The install was MUCH faster than Beta 2 though. So far, the display driver has crashed once on it though, then when it "recovered" the video started tearing really bad so i booted back into XP (mainly so i can...

    The Vista Hive

Do you have that problem in XP as well? If it works fine in XP but doesn't work right in Vista, then its probably the video drivers. I've been having some weird issues with my video drivers in my laptop as well (I have a GeForce Go 6800). Look at my post above yours to see what I mean.

    The Vista Hive

Does anyone know when we can expect to see some decent drivers from nvidia for Vista? The ones that we do have suck pretty bad. I've been "trying" to play Madden 07 in Vista since last night. Game will work fine for a little while, then all of a sudden it'll just lock up (usually after making...

    The Vista Hive

From what I've read, RC1 is supposed to be released around the end of this month or early september. I for one can't wait until it's released. I'm really interested to see the improvements that have been made since Beta 2. Since i use Beta 2 pretty much every day as the main OS on my laptop...

*DEAD* Free copy of WinRAR 3.51

That link doesn't really look legit. And i don't feel comfortable putting my information in there lol. The links at the top point to win-rar's website, but the actual URL is not win-rar's site. I'd be careful about that.

I don't have that game, but I've gotten Command & Conquer Generals to work in it. I'm even running it at 1920x1200 on my laptop. The game doesn't natively support that resolution, but you can edit the config file and enter that resolution. I've noticed some weird terrain texture issues with...

    Random Background Changes?

I was just wondering about this. I found a site with a TON of 1920x1200 background images and I was curious to know if there was anyway to have windows randomly set the background like everyday, or if this was possible without me having to set it manually? I've never even tried to do this...

    Question about video editting

You can do this with just about any editing/conversion program. Just set the resolution you want. However, I will warn you that upscaling a video will result in lower quality overall. If you want a free program to do this, just use Virtualdub-mpeg and convert to DivX.

Some nice prey Screenshots at 1920x1200

Prey is a pretty cool game. I beat it in 2 days though lol. Overall its probably about as long as Doom 3 (i never finished that game, got bored with it), but its a much better game than Doom 3 was. The graphics are great, the AI isn't "horrible", but its not great either lol. Also, has...

Your experience with Vista Beta 2

This is weird. I haven't had any problems at all with going into sleep mode on my laptop, or hibernate either. Sleep resumes just like in XP for the most part for me. It takes a "little" longer to resume, but I think thats just because I don't have enough memory (512MB, got 1GB of OCZ coming...

Windows XP lag after leaving computer on overnight

My guess would be that most of the stuff that was in memory (doesn't really matter how much memory you have at this point) was paged out. So its swapping it back like xtknight said. Does it speed up after a few minutes? Or does it continue to do it?

Your experience with Vista Beta 2

WTH still uses floppy drives???? Mine has been disconnected for over a year lol. Only reason it was connected in the first place was, you guessed it, sata drivers, but with the nforce sata controller it see's it as an ide bus anyway. What kind of machine are you running this on anyway? I...

Not sure how many of you are interested or not, but yesterday when I found out that VMware Server was free, I downloaded and installed it on my laptop (I'm dual booting it with XP and Vista Beta 2) on my Vista installation. Vista & DX8/DX9 support on a notebook

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that Vista will probably run like crap on a system with those specs. It runs "ok" on my Dell Inspiron 9300 laptop (specs are in my signature). I have 512MB of memory right now as well, but I'm going to upgrade to at least 1GB (probably 2GB by the end of...

ATI HDTV wonder PCI tuner with an Nvidia graphics card

The sound only gets out of sync when you try to convert the recordings (OTA HDTV recordings specifically). Windows Vista - ReadyBoost Technology

From what I've been reading, in a way its geared more towards mobile users and users with limited amounts of memory. If you have 2GB+ of RAM then you probably won't see too much of a gain but you may still benefit from it (paging out memory to the flash drive will be faster than paging out to...

    Windows Vista - ReadyBoost Technology

I've been looking around alot of threads and websites that have been discussing Windows Vista Beta 2 (there's almost an endless number of threads on it), but one of the more interesting features that I think is included in Vista is also one of the least talked about. ReadyBoost is basically a...

Help the new guy with PC video conversion stuff

Purevideo would be for playback only, so it would not help you if your goal is to compress the files. DivX is a good way to go but you don't need to buy it to use the codec for compression. Just download the standard DivX codec and you're good to go (I use VirtualDub-MPEG for encoding...

Your experience with Vista Beta 2

The performance rating on my Inspiron 9300 is a 3 as well. The way it works is your overall system score will only be as high as the lowest score on the list. So if you have a GPU rating of 3 and everything else is 3.5 or 4 then your overall score will be a 3. I have a GeForce Go 6800 in my...

    cat5 versus wireless G router

If the router is only 5ft away, why even bother trying to go wireless anyway? My router is on my desk, my desktop is on the floor. It's wired to the router because its pointless to go wireless when its that close.

Video card manufacturer service ranking (poll)

Gigabyte can suck a fat one. My gigabyte motherboard started killing my video cards (went through 3 of them) and I called them to RMA the board. They REFUSE to do an advanced RMA (i really didn't want to wait 3 weeks to get a new board) and I told them that I couldn't really wait for a new...

    drivers on mce 2005

Some of the drivers have media center specific features (used within the Media Center application). I've been running MCE 2005 for a couple years now and I always use the XP Pro drivers. Doesn't really make a difference though, the MCE drivers don't get updated as often though.

    programming

I'd say C#. C++ is used more, but it also had like a 30yr head start over C# too. So its an unfair comparison. But in all fairness, C# and java are based off of C++. I started out programming in VB4, then moved to VB6, then VB.NET, .NET 2003 and now .NET 2005. Since .NET 2.0 framework came...

    Beta Nvidia Drivers

Ok, i'm going to make this as clear as humanly possible. MCE "IS" XP. All Media Center is, is an "application" that runs on top of, and is embedded, in XP. So, yes, regular XP drivers will work fine in MCE. How do I know? I've been running MCE for like 2yrs, and never use the MCE drivers...

    Possible to overclock a 7800go (non-gtx) in a Dell E1705 (laptop)?

    Microsoft® Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005

I don't understand what you mean by being restrictive as far as the licenses go. I've been using media center for over a year and haven't had any issues with it. Windows Media Center

Media Center Edition is XP Professional NOT XP Home. It's just XP Pro with the MCE application embedded in it. So if you want a cheap copy of Pro, just get MCE. You don't even "have" to use the MCE app, it doesn't come on at startup unless you set it up to do so.
