3700+ San Deigo or 3800+ Venice at stock speeds: Which one?

I wouldn't mind a little overclocking, but I have never done it before so I don't want to ruin my new hardware. How far do you think that 3700+ could go on stock Vcore?

3700+ San Deigo or 3800+ Venice at stock speeds: Which one?

The 3700+ is cheaper. So you are saying that I could get probably 200-400 extra MHZ out of this processor without any extra voltage? I plan on running it with the stock HSF if that matters too. So basically all I would probably need to do to hit 2.4-2.6 GHZ is increase the HHT/FSB or whatever it...

3700+ San Deigo or 3800+ Venice at stock speeds: Which one?

So running completely stock (sorry I am just not into OC'ing), what would perform better for gaming? I have heard of several threads where people with San Deigos were experiencing 18-20% boosts in performance over a similarly clocked Venice/Winchester/etc. This sounds a bit odd and may have been...

    Best vidcard for 1920 x 1200 LCD (Dell 2405)?

X800XL but I would imagine at that res it might struggle a bit on modern games on high settings. Definetely no AA/AF for the majority of games though. The next gen cards will be "launched" this month, but will probably not be available for another two months at a reasonable price. Of course...

What will be the R520 called?

Lets hope. Although then nVidia would just be down-right slaughtered. There would be no competition. Unless of course the G70 was the next 5xxx series...

*Edited: R520 to be released next month

Even though this *supposedly* won't be a paper launch, I wonder what prices on these cards at launch will be? If they are reasonable, I am thinking I will have to put off upgrading. Funny they come out the same day as BF2, the game I am looking forward to most, especially with a new build.

Which brand of 6800GT is best?

Leadtek for OC'ing. EVGA for price. BFG for nice warrenty. Gainward for uhhh dunno. PNY and XFX do suck. Stay away.

    Which would be better ?

Nice choice. And it's sort of funny you got a better card waiting for your older, slower card to get back from RMA.

    Upgrade from 9600XT

X800XL if you can spend around $250-$270. 6600GT if you can spend around $150-$170. Your processor should be just fine for both of them.

    LCD or CRT?

Tell me about it. The temperature in my room raises from 100 to 110 with this stupid CRT in my room. I am a Tucson resident as well.

    Marketing, I'm sure

Well yes, in all seriousness the card would be just too damn big, to power hungry, run too hot, etc.

Better performance in HL2 than Farcry, why?

Yep, HL2 generally runs better than Far Cry. I think it has mostly to do with the fact that HL2 is optomised quite well and will run even on low spec PC's.

Yeah I am waiting on a deal from Dell for the monitor, and as for the videocard, I may do that, and I am also considering downgrading to a 6600GT, but I may be stuck with this card for a while with the high prices at launch of the next gen cards, plus I will be able to sell it. Still considering...

First off this build is for gaming web surfing (which isn't a concern.) I will not be doing any overclocking right off the bat, however I might look into that later, but it really isn't a big concern with this system at all. Motherboard and CPU: MSI K8N Neo4 Platinum and San Deigo 3700+...

What would be better for gaming and overall?

The 3500+ with the x850xt would be better, but I would suggest you get the 3700+ with an X800XL and wait for the release of the 32 pipe next gen cards (or the 24's if you don't want to wait.)
