Cooling (and quieting) my 9800 Pro

I too have a 9800 Pro with an Arctic Silencer, and it's amazing. You don't always feel a lot of air moving out the back, but it definately does a great job of keeping the card cool, and it makes very very little noise.

    My water cooled case

Awesome, thanks. Now I just need to figure out exactly what parts I want to get. I'm trying to make sure everything meshes perfectly, and a bunch of things are more in depth than I expected.

    My water cooled case

Looking at either a heater core (10 1/2" x 6" x 2") or a Black Ice Pro II (133x227x25mm) Sorry for the two different measurements, Voyeurmods didn't list the heatercore in metric. Still havent decided between the two of them. On the one hand I hear a heatercore will work better, but on the...

    My water cooled case

Looks very nice, that was a case I was looking at for the rig I want to do. Did you fit everything in there w/o modding? The only real difference is that I'm looking to have a 120.2 Radiator, would that fit in the front if I had.. **thinks** 4 items for 5 1/4" bays? (I am IDing that...

    Extended ATX-form case

Hey guys, I'm working on piecing together a new comp, with a nice big full tower for watercooling and such. Problem is, 90% of the cases I am reccomended are listed as Extended ATX, and I dont see many EATX MoBos. Will a regular ATX board still fit in the case?

    Good cases for Watercooling?

Thanks a ton guys. :) Still gonna have to take a while to look around for things, but i'm gathering there's no way around having to mod the case for the radiator? Never having modded a case before I'd like to avoid having my first time be on a $200 Lian-Li case O_o;;; As a ref, i'm looking at...

    Good cases for Watercooling?

Looking to build a new system and watercool it. I've been hearing that watercooling takes a lot of room, and often requires you to cut up the case if you use a heatercore. What kind of cases are good for watercooling? I'd need something with a good PSU obviously (Unless you guys can reccomend...

    Looking to do watercooling

Hey guys, looking to put some watercooling in my comp, and didn't see a FAQ for a couple of the questions I had. From other threads i've gathered you need tubing, a waterblock for the GPU/CPU, Pump, resivoir and radiator. However, I haven't seen anything that tells how to figure out what kind...

    sata drives

I have a seagate 200GB Barracuda, and while it's IDE and not SATA, I'll say it runs plenty quiet for me. Sure I hear it a bit, but compared to all the other HDD's i've had, it's very soft.

    Harddrive Upgrade questions

What exactly is partitioning good for? One of my friends partitioned off a bit for use with a UNIX OS for one of our classes, but other than that I've never really seen it used.

    Harddrive Upgrade questions

Built my computer over the fall with a 200GB Seagate 7200 RPM IDE hard drive. As of right now though, I have about 9GB remaining, filled the rest with the OS, games, Anime fan subs, etc, so I'm looking to add more. I've been seeing a lot of stuff on these boards about people having a small...

New Build Has Inadequate Performance in WoW for me.

Yea I'd agree that something's up, I run an athlon 64 3200+ @ 2.2GHz and a Radeon 9800 Pro 256 megs. 1280x1024 Reso, max settings except ansiotropic filtering. Occasionally get a lil video lag, but not often at all.

    Random temp fluxuations

Ok, quick further update: I just powered down my computer, opened the side up, turned on my room fan and let it sit for ~10 mins before turning it back on. Now my CPU temp is idling at 25 again. (THOUGHT I had tried this before, maybe i'm just dumb). Edit: After letting it cool: Idle...

    Random temp fluxuations

Updated the bios last night, they're current. And those temps sound like what they WERE listed at. I'm still trying to figure out what causing it, because it just randomly reset to 52 a couple days ago, and then again yesterday. Before it hit those temps, it was running BEAUTIFULLY at like 27'...

    Random temp fluxuations

Alright, I'll make sure I've got the thermal goop on really well. My stock HS came with the tape that was already on it, so are there any particulars to smearing on the arctic silver? or will it explain on the package? Also, I may have asked this before but what's the best thing to use to clean...

    Random temp fluxuations

AMD Athlon 64 3200+ (no OCing at all) @ 2.2GHz MoBo is MSI "K8T NEO-FSR" K8T800. Had it up and running for about 2 months now, but just recently installed the temp monitoring stuff (b/c i got interested in the idea of OCing), so its completely possible it's been running hot the whole time...

    Random temp fluxuations

Yep, everything's properly mounted, though I am planning on getting a new HS/F and some Arctic Silver stuff to see if that helps. Running a 754 socket processor, what would be a good HS/F? I've been reccomended ZALMAN CNPS7000B-Cu Copper CPU Cooler for Socket 478/462/754/939/940 CPUs , any...

    Random temp fluxuations

Hey guys, I had a post in the CPU section yesterday about a problem with my CPU heat I thought was related to a power surge. Everything seems fine but i'm still getting a HUGE difference in my CPU temps at times. Earlier yesterday it was running at 27'C while idle. When it restarted from the...

    New mid-end cheap rig

    New mid-end cheap rig

I just thought 939 would be better to go, since all the posts seem to be saying 754 will be phased out. But if 754 will still be ok, I'll check into that too.

    New Cooling suggestions?

Suggestions on Components for a New Build

I'm no guru, but if you get XP with the SP1, wouldn't it automatically download the update for SP2? So that shouldn't really be an issue.

    New Cooling suggestions?

Had a weird happening recently. Came home after being gone for a day and my processor's suddenly running at 50' idle instead of 27 like it was before. Figure I might want to get a new HS/F, but not sure what I should be looking at. Also, any ideas what could have caused the temp increase...

    Need help please (Slightly urgent)

Well it was running very hot before I pulled it off as well, and now its still holding the same basic temps. I'm still going to apply new stuff, but i'm just thoroghly confused as to what could have caused it. I've got my comp plugged into a surge strip and everything, so i'm just baffled.

Alright cool, thanks. Any ideas on what would be a good HS/F to go for? I'm new to upgrading cooling, how would I go about getting the thermal tape gunk off my processor? And will a new HS/F fit on the AMD mount it came with, or would that have to be changed around? And a final...

    Need help please (Slightly urgent)

Ok seems I may have not needed to fully spaz and panic. I guess thermal tape stuff's sticky to start with. Memory possibly slowing down comp?

Alright cool, thanks. Now if I wanted to overclock my processor a bit, would I then end up needing to increase memory, or would it not be a huge deal? (Relatively new to this and want to make sure I do it properly)

    Memory possibly slowing down comp?

I was reading the overclocking guide, though I'll admit to not being 100% clear on it. From what I was reading however, it was saying that if your CPU's FSB is above the memory's speed, that there's some speed lost? For instance, I'm running an AMD Athlon 64 3200+ 2.2 GHz. FSB is 200 x 11...

    Inaccurate CPU Temp?

Is an HSF fan supposed to blow in or suck out hot air?

Just a fan on the side of the case that sucks air in. A lot of cases seem to come with them (at least mine did and lots of others I see).

Couple of basic questions on OCing

I downloaded and installed Prime95, but I'm wondering what you do with it to actually "stress test" it. I found an option for "torture test" but there's a bunch of different choices.. what should I use?

Is an HSF fan supposed to blow in or suck out hot air?

Mine blows down onto the Heatsink. Pretty sure that's how it's intended, especially if you have a side intake fan. Side fan brings in cool air, HSF blows it onto processor, rear exhaust fan blows it out. Unless i'm completely mistaken ^_~
