For video I think that PVA panels will also qualify as an option. What I gather is that PVAs are not that good at gaming only, with the rest of the tasks not presenting any problems.
I'm in the market for an LCD, on which there will be no gaming, but instead mainly for visual work (graphic design) and general purpose usage.
My research has let me to the conclusion that have to get a S-IPS or PVA screen to get 24 bit color. Now that's fine by me. Thing is that I can't for...
Based on personal experience I'd recommend that if you want a quiet hard drive, perhaps there are better options than the Barracuda 7200.7. The idle noise is practically non-existant, but the writes are loud as hell :)
It may be even worse. Check your motherboard manual. For instance my Asus K8N specifies that if I use 2 double sided sticks with 1 single sided, the memory will run at DDR200. So to run DDR333 with 3 sticks you will either need 2 single sided with 1 double sided stick or 3 single sided sticks.
Capital idea! Will try the safe mode thingie.
How do I go about changing the volume in command prompt? Same as in the old DOS days? volume.com or .exe or whatever there is?
Hmm.. I took the old system to my sister's for her to work on, so that would be a real pain in the bottom if I have to get the old HDD back with the new. Don't think there's any file system encryption, but where do I check to see that?
About the C: and D: - did they get converted to smileys...
I upgraded my PC and reused my old 80GB Seagate harddrive which is separated into two partitions. I did a fresh instal of Windows onto my System partition ( C: ) after a format, keeping the Documents partition ( D: ) intact.
I then got a new harddrive (200GB) and had both the new and the old...
I got a Barracuda 7200.7 SATA 200GB to replace my old Barracuda ATA IV 80GB and the seek times are just outrageously loud compared to my older drive. Is there any way to reduce that seek noise levels? Some Seagate software which has controls for Fast / Quiet operation?
Thanks. For the 7200.7 where is it specified? Is it on the drive itself?
And how do I differentiate between 7200.7 and 7200.8 drives if all that is mentioned about the drive is the make (Seagate obviously), size in GB, RPM, interface and cache size.
Also.. now that I'm wondering about...
Well Prime bombed even with the CPU at 11x200MHz, FSB at 200MHz and the RAM at DDR200, so I think I'm gonna give up this combo and switch to an NF3 + A64 S754. If you guys have any recommendations please see my other thread, here...
Excelsior, you have a point. I'm doing this right now.. testing the RAM and FSB without pushing the CPU to see whether they work to rule them out individually as problems.
And I was wrong by not being concerned with Prime.. obviously it's a good indicator that somethings wrong and that sooner...
Craig, thanks! I tried to find reviews of the board but everyone has reviewed the K8N-E Deluxe version.
Can you tell me - does the board have all the needed overclocking controls? FSB, voltages in small increments, AGP locks etc? Thanks again!
Update:
I came along another mobo that fits into my budget, and is perhaps a better choice - the Epox 8KDA3J. The Epox board uses the nForce3-250Gb chipset instead of the vanilla NF3-250. Should I go for that one instead, or should I stick to the Asus as my primary choice?
note: The Epox...
Crypto: Thanks! I'd be pretty happy to have them at 2.2GHz even so it's good to know those ranges. As for the Sempron 90nm, I was looking at a review at XBit where the difference in performance was not that bad (i.e. the lesser cache didn't hurt the CPU too much).
On a related note - how is...
Dman, the PC in question is my home PC / workstation. I use it for browsing and movies (no, or very light gaming), and for Photoshop / Illustrator when I have freelance projects outside my job.
I've been offered to give $15 to switch my current parts (AXP-M 2400+, 8RDA+ Pro and GlacialTech...
UPDATE 2
So I dedided on getting an Asus K8N with the entry level Athlon64 for Socket754 (2800+). Anything I should keep in mind when making the upgrade?
The cooler I'll most likely get is Igloo 7200 which can be seen here:
http://www.glacialtech.com/sub-product08.htm
BTW - this...
Any ideas on how I can run the CPU at the default CPU clock?
And is the L12 mod still a viable solution? I'm beginning to doubt anything will help it...
And 3rd: if I decide to switch this combo (AXP-M + NF2) with a NF3 + Sempron 754 combo, which is the CPU I should get (i.e. which...
Now this is getting very stupid..
I couldn't run the CPU at 13.5 x 133MHz.. it would keep saying 'Bad overclock' and put it at 6x100MHz. So I put it at 9 x 200MHZ (still 1800MHz), and that worked, but Prime again bombed after 1h 6mins (it would give an error much quicker previously).
Now...
Yeah.. right.. stable my arse. Blue screen, the error being in something called WATCHDOG.SYS. Can't get any more random than that. Will try stock speeds now, and if it doesn't work it better be strong enough to withstand a 9-story fall.. ;)
0roo0roo, it runs stable as it is now (11x200), it's just that Prime won't comlpete the Blend test (no restarts since Sunday). Haven't tried it yet at stock speeds. Will do today / tomorrow.
EDIT: Ok, I see how this sounds.. no restarts since Sunday, but it's been bahaving lately ;)
Fern: yes I did find a modded BIOS, but I'm not sure I want to install it.. did you experience any issues with your modded BIOS? Or did things go smoothly? What if the BIOS file is corrupt? I'll end up with a dead motherboard! I wish more companies would implement the DualBIOS Gigabyte has...
