    Learning Javascript and Programming

Webstorm is pretty nice, and very well done. Although, you are already using sublime text, you can install node.js locally, and install SublimeREPL in sublime using the package manager and use that with node. It allows you to run code line by line.

    A Career In Computer Programming

That is great! What you are describing would be a Bachelor of Arts in CS at my university, and requires a lot less math. There is one thing to check though, and it may not even be a problem where you are located, but I know at quite a few 4 year universities they require you to take the...

    A Career In Computer Programming

I imagine it differs university to university. At the school I attend, CS is in the Math/Science department, and CIS is in the Business department. The classes don't intersect at all. CIS majors where I go only have to take up to Business Calculus for math. CS majors are requires to take Cal I...

    A Career In Computer Programming

This is valid, although that is already another major at my school. A CS degree is the basics of logic, math, data structures, and algorithms. Every CS student should be taught at least that. Upper level electives for me include AI, advanced data structures, advanced OOP, database programming...

    A Career In Computer Programming

This could be because there just aren't that many of them anymore. Most general advisers try to discourage CS and push the students into more of a human/earth science, or a business field for their degree. Not to mention the amount of students that can't pass the mass classes or are intimidated...

    A Career In Computer Programming

This is what I was stressing in my post. Programming experience will help a lot, but when you can't hold your own in a team environment (as most programming jobs will require) because you haven't had the logic, math, and general CS classes, you won't hold that job long. So yes, the degree does...

    A Career In Computer Programming

Sounds to me like you should have went into computer science instead for a career in programming. All the CIS majors I know that got their degree go on to be system or network admins. Don't take that in a bad way, I don't mean to offend you in any way, but CS is about application design...

    Who here uses Windows Phone?

Nokia Lumia 920 I have had iphones and android phones, and I much prefer my Windows Phone. It does what I need it to do, and doesn't get in my way. I haven't had a lack of apps, as it has everything that I need. Of course, I don't use just a huge amount of apps. The browser is better for me...

Stick with Android or shift to iOS?

Fair enough. I don't know much about the cameras on the Android phones, but in the time I had android and iPhones, I actually preferred the iPhones because they just worked, although I hated iTunes. If it weren't for iTunes, I would say go with an iPhone, but it sounds like you should just...

Stick with Android or shift to iOS?

Honestly a Windows phone sounds like what you are wanting, but what apps are you missing? I have not experienced any apps missing that I wanted on the WP8, but everyone's app requirements are different. Also, WP8 has a hefty amount of games available, including quite a few exclusives.

Best Linux Distro(s) for Linux+ Exam

For the purpose of the Linux+ exam, you need to know where the network configs of RHEL are. They pretty much expect you to think that RHEL is standard Linux. As a matter of fact, they didn't ask where they were stored, they wanted to know how to use the RHEL gui tools to set things.

Best Linux Distro(s) for Linux+ Exam

This. The Linux+ test has a LOT of .rpm questions. I don't think I remember one .deb question. I used Fedora to go through the book with, but CentOS would be better. They say it is vendor neutral, but what they really mean is: "we are going to ask you a lot of questions about RHEL packages...

    Is 64-bit worth it?

I am running Vista Ultimate 64 bit on my C2D on my laptop with 2 GB or Ram. It is noticeably faster and a lot snappier when doing normal things. Windows open quicker, things load faster, etc... Drivers so far haven't been bad, and I am not missing anything in 64 bit that I wasn't missing in...

Just installed Ubuntu, but cannot login...

There was a bug with some of the installers (I don't know if they have fixed it) that if you didn't set your time zone (left it as UTC) then it wouldn't create the user or ask you for a password. Reinstall and set your time zone, and see what happens.

Is Linux Rolling Over In Its Grave?

My onboard Marvell Yukon lan does the same thing to me when dual boot. Linux for a guy who is a Linux USER at work?

I will actually say go ahead and try gentoo. It isn't all about optimization and compiling. Portage (the package manager) is one of the best out there, and I like to manually configure and learn about my system. Plus, the community is one of the most helpful out there. Their support forums...

Linux for a guy who is a Linux USER at work?

I say that you use whatever distribution that you are used to using, and learn it. If you use it at work, it will make it that much easier. True that most distro's are a lot alike, but they all have their own way of doing things. If you use Redhat at work, then Fedora will be best for you...

    whats wrong with my fstab?

All I have in my fstab options for my ntfs drives is "uid=1000,umask=0222". The uid defines me access to read it, and the umask defines it as read only. You won't have write access, but you will be able to read it no problem.

    Gentoo Linux?

That is why you always do an "emerge -pv depclean" before you actually do it. -pv is pretend and verbose, so you can see what you are actually removing. If you don't want to remove a package, you add it to your world file. Also, if something else depends on that package, then it won't...

    Gentoo Linux?

Gentoo does take some getting used to, but an "emerge -C packagename" isn't that bad. You just do an "emerge -pv depclean" afterwards to see what it wants to remove, and then "emerge depclean" do remove any unwanted packages that the one you removed depended on. I have been using Gentoo for...

    Gentoo Linux?

Sorry for not answering sooner. Actually, you would have to do an "emerge -e system && emerge -e system" to first optimize your toolchain, then the second time would be to recompile the toolchain with the optimized toolchain. Some people do an "emerge depclean" after it just to make sure...

    Gentoo Linux?

Yeah, you do an emerge -e system twice because the first time it builds the compiler and the toolchain, and the next time it rebuilds everything with the optimized compiler and toolchain. Basically, it is for stability within the toolchain and to make sure everything is built with a correct...

They still have stage 1 and stage 2 documentation available, there is a link from the stage selection page on how to do it. IMO, doing a stage 3 and then, after getting everything like you like it do an emerge -e system && emerge -e system. That will optimize everything to your liking, and...

    Mandrake 10.1 Hangs during installation...

The one time I installed Mandrake, I did have to have my SATA arranged differently in the bios. I haven't had to do that with any other distribution though. YMMV IMO, I would go with Ubuntu before Mandrake. RPM distro's are not the best.
