capturing video w/ATI all-in-wonder & MS Moviemaker - no sound

I appreciate the continuing input, but I'm not getting anywhere nearer to a solution. I have another PC (a laptop) doing almost the same thing as I want to do here and it's working fine. I have an ADS Video Xpress box to take the sound and video through USB. The quality is as good as on the DVD...

capturing video w/ATI all-in-wonder & MS Moviemaker - no sound

Why would I use tape? As I said, the recordings I'm making into the DVD recorder are fine. The sound quality is also fine (although perhaps a little quieter than I'd like). What I'm trying to do here is speed up the process. Tape would be a big step backwards in terms of speed.

capturing video w/ATI all-in-wonder & MS Moviemaker - no sound

I have a video camera with which I record conversations. The signal goes into a DVD recorder, where it is recorded onto the hard drive. After that, I burn the recording onto a DVD and transfer the files to a computer and convert the files to .wmv files. I'm trying to take the signal from the DVD...

Hey. I've just had a look around those sites, but I couldn't find anything related to my problem.

capturing video w/ATI all-in-wonder & MS Moviemaker - no sound

I'm already doing these recordings using a DVD recorder, and the sound is fine. After recording on the DVD recorder, I'm burning to a DVD-RW, importing the files into an editing program and converting them to .wmv.I have no problem with that. The problem is that it takes a long time to convert...

capturing video w/ATI all-in-wonder & MS Moviemaker - no sound

Erm... I'm back. I thought the line in worked - and it did - but not as well as I need. I'm just recording conversations in a quiet room. The recordings I made with the line in had too much background noise. I tried feeding the audio into the mic socket, with similar results. I wonder how...

Connecting the audio to the line in worked for me. Thanks. :)

capturing video w/ATI all-in-wonder & MS Moviemaker - no sound

Yeah, I figured that. I was kind of joking... A lot gets lost in the translation, doesn't it? :) (The winky smiley has been duly added to the edit above).

capturing video w/ATI all-in-wonder & MS Moviemaker - no sound

The manual has lots of pictures of RCS cables going from the special RCA adapter to the camera. Maybe I should try putting it into the line in, but I guess I'll have to get myself another cable to do that. As I said, it worked with the Mic in, but the volume was a lot lower than it is when I...

capturing video w/ATI all-in-wonder & MS Moviemaker - no sound

That's basically it in the title - I've put an ATI all-in-wonder RADEON (a few years old) into an old COMPAQ Presario 5000. I'm trying to capture video from a video camera with MS Moviemaker. I'm getting the picture, but no sound is coming through. I can choose 'Microphone' as the audio input...

    network boot to install Linux?

Well, I know that a CD in the CD drive boots, but a DVD in the DVD drive doesn't. I don't know if a CD in the DVD drive works. I haven't tried that one. I'll try your ideas out later today - I'm busy most of the day. Thanks for the help.

    network boot to install Linux?

The machine has both a DVD drive and a CD drive. I should have mentioned that, shouldn't I? I'll look into PXE later. Thanks.

    network boot to install Linux?

I have an old machine. It works really slowly with Windows and I'd like to make use of it by using Linux on it. I like Kubuntu, which comes as a DVD. The bios won't let me boot from the DVD - the CD is OK, but not the DVD. I tried to find how to upgrade the bios, but when I found what seemed...

Windows keeps crashing. Maybe a video card problem...?

No, they're not all the same. Here's the second-to-last: and here's the one before that:

Windows keeps crashing. Maybe a video card problem...?

Hey. I guess I was much too confident before. I got this same thing a couple of times, and I tried to find a solution, but I couldn't actually find one... Now though, it's just crashed three times tonight. Here's what the Windows de-ah heck said: I'd really appreciate some help. Cheers

    It was this: i8042prt.sys ( i8042prt!I8xQueueCurrentMouseInput+67 )

Windows keeps crashing. Maybe a video card problem...?

Just to (hopefully) close this.... I looked at the pages and software you suggested and they were very useful. I think my problems are over now (maybe) but I'm not sure what exactly fixed it. I opened up the case and made sure everything was firmly in place (connections and whatever), then i...

Actually, it usually freezes, but it sometimes reboots.

Just built a PC but it doesn't work

Well, what do you know, eh? I took the motherboard out of the case, and I finally got a beep. I connected the monitor, and I even had a picture. Now everything is working fine. Thanks a lot for your help everyone. :)

Just built a PC but it doesn't work

drum, What you're saying there sounds the same as what I've been doing, except the things are outside the case rather than in it. In the case, the video card is attached to the motherboard with the CPU/heatsink and a stick of ram. I guess I could detach the HDD and the DVD and see what happens...

Just built a PC but it doesn't work

cyborgtrader, Thanks for the idea. I removed one of the memory cards and made sure it was in OK, but I still got no bios beeps or picture. It's so frustrating, because everything else looks cool - all the fans are whizzing around, the hard disk is moving, I can open and close the DVD drive and...
