Windows Explorer Slow and Not Responding

Out of the blue, when I open Windows Explorer to browse files, it is very slow. Further, when I click on a file to open, I get the "working circle" aka hourglass and a Windows Explorer is Not Responding message for a while, then the file finally opens. I'm getting this on all drives, even my...

Maximus III Forumula won't post / boot and shows Red CPU LED

I know what you mean, it's such a mystery to me... The fan is plugged in and running; in fact all the fans and lights start up. I've checked all the mobo power connectors. You do have to push down on the spring arms of the cooler mount, but I wouldn't say any harder than heatsink.

Maximus III Forumula won't post / boot and shows Red CPU LED

I've had my system running stable for years, but my stock Intel CPU cooler started growling so I figured it was time to swap it out. I removed the Intel Cooler, scrapped off the dry thermal paste, and installed a new Cooler Master Hyper 212 Plus with the backing bracket and new thermal paste...

Wireless Access Point Needed for use with MoCA - Update; using router questions

Update and new questions: Looks like the thing to do is to use a router as an access point by turning off DHCP, etc. 1) If I buy a newer router that supports a usb storage device, will it still work in this configuration? 2) Is it better to have the wireless show up as a single source or...

Wireless Access Point Needed for use with MoCA - Update; using router questions

I'm a Verizon FiOS customer that uses the supplied Actiontec Wireless router. I couldn't get coverage over the entire house and have A/V equipment without wireless built in, so I installed a MoCA adapter (http://www.actiontec.com/products/product.php?pid=250) from actiontec. I'm looking for...

FiOS Networking Help Needed - Actiontech doesn't cover whole house

As I begin to research the solutions listed above, does anyone have knowledge or experience with MOCA? I found this device: Actiontech Coaxial Network Adapter listed as a possible solution to my situation. The same model minus the "V" (for Verizon) has comments in the review section that...

FiOS Networking Help Needed - Actiontech doesn't cover whole house

OK guys, here's the deal: I've got FiOS and it's been great, but I have a connection/range issue. Verizon supplies their own router (Actiontech) which connects to a coax outlet and then either through wired or wireless connection to your PC/XBOXTV/Cell Phone/ETC. The main box for FiOS is...

    Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Recommendations

Bump - I'm not really finding anything that is jumping out at me. So far, it looks like to get the better keyboards, you're stuck with a mouse combo in which many people feel the mouse is inferior. I'm willing to pull the trigger on the Razer Mamba, but want a quality wireless keyboard to go...

How accurate is HP's "Toolbox" with estimates of ink levels?

I'm calling BS to the levels - not that they maybe don't give you a rough estimate, but from HP shutting down your printer. I've got a C7280 and it gives me a warning when any one color is low. After a few additional print jobs, it will just stop you from printing in color PERIOD. There...

    Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Recommendations

Thanks for the response. Funny you should mention the backlit keys - I intended to put that in my original post as a big plus! I stumbled across the Razer Mamba mouse while hunting around. It expensive as mouses go, but it is BOTH wireless AND wired. Check it out here...

    Wireless Keyboard and Mouse Recommendations

I'm in the market for a wireless keyboard and mouse. I know most people try to fit themselves into some sort of type; eg. a "Gaming" type, "Multimedia" type, or "General" type. For me I pretty much want it all. I'd like to be able to do some casual web surfing or media access from my couch -...

Excellent post OP, I was considering bringing up the topic too. Also included should be tips like moving the swap files, browser temp files, etc. I'm about to install Win7 64 on my virgin SSD drive and a SSD Sticky Thread would be extremely valuable!

Thanks for the tip! I also worried about running into capability issues - I'm leaning towards the Phenom 720BE/ASUS 790gx AM3 combo and one of the first reviews I read said they had issues with Win 7. I'd hate to buy Vista, only to then pay again for Win7.

How to transfer a partion from RAID 0 to single drive

Well I'm hoping to keep the RAID 0 going, but just not have my OS on it. I figure it'll still be good for gaming until it dies. That's why I've resigned myself to getting an IDE drive for the OS, unless someone can figure out a way to do it another way.

I'm aware of F6 for a Windows setup, but the F6 option does not appear for the "R", repair option. I have not tried to choose windows setup, then F6, and then look for the repair option afterwords. I'll try it and see what options appear after F6 (thought it goes into xp install from there).
