    Headless Shuttle SN45G

The SN45G has no internal video card, unlike the SN41G - which is why you need a video card to actually POST. Zap's suggestions about video card sounds spot on for your needs, as does tronsr71 tips for shutting down remotely. Heck, you could even go one step further and set up wake-on-lan...

I got one essentially the day it was released, quite a lucky find if I might add, cause over the weekend availability dropped to zilch. This was in NZ btw. Now eta's meant to be Oct 10. :(

    7600GT AGP

Good news. Ran Driver Cleaner Pro and Regcleaner before installing 91.47 and now I get ~60K in Aquamark3. Not as huge an improvement as I thought I'd get but definitely noticeable. 3DMark01 is now at 21.3K which is another welcome fix so overall kinda happy at the moment. I've got other...

    7600GT AGP

Haven't tried OC yet, last thing I want to do is toast the card through carelessness at this stage. I have down-clocked it though to 445 MHz (Core) and AM3 still only gave about 50k :disgust:. I've heard some good stories about OC on the PCI-e version though I'm doubtful that it will hold true...

    7600 GT Temperatures

Key word here: Passive. The cards' thermal limits are ~130C so 100C is fine. Kill a video card? Hardly. Prove it and I'll believe you, maybe. Anyways, my point is that if my cards can operate fine at 100C then 64-68C with a HSF is perfectly fine. Now, 90C for an X1900XT with a HSF is...

First, get used to metric ;) Second, there should be a fair amount of jobs in Aus especially for engineers. Can't quite say the same for NZ though, might be why a fair number of kiwis leave to work in Australia.

    SFF thoughts

Components for most SFF systems are pretty much the same as those used in regular ATX mobos. They're not any smaller or fragile, just possibly closely packed - so if you can build your own ATX/BTX system then you should have no trouble putting together a SFF. Conroe-capable motherboards are...

Shuttle XPC owners: What video card do you have in it?

All AGP: Passive Gigabyte 6800, passive 6600GT (also Gigabyte), X800XL. If you check Sudhian forums you'll see that others are running 7900GT's with little or no problem

imhungry, that's actually overvolting a little. Stock is 1.35 - 1.4V Still, that's a nice overclock for a 144. Give 2.75 or 2.80 a short try to see how it goes

    what's the difference between opterons & a64's?

Oops, forgot to mention which CPU it was. Silly me  Both cpus were Opteron 146s. Forgot I don't have a sig in this forum [edit] CAB2E 0546 FPAW refers to the stepping and week of production. It's only a general guide as to how well a particular processor overclocks (based on...

    what's the difference between opterons & a64's?

I've had two. The first one (CAB2E 0546 FPAW) could barely do 2.3 with stock volts and only 2.4 stable thereafter. The second one (CAB2E 0604 DPAW) is doing 2.79 on stock. Luck of the draw, definitely, but if you manage to get a good one then it's definitely worth it ;)

    Opteron temps in the 50's

Stock voltage shouldn't depend on your motherboard/bios revision. It is ~1.325 V (1.3 V/1.35 V) defined by AMD. The default voltage provided by your board would likely depend on your BIOS revision though [edit] Single cores have a higher rated voltage, 1.35 V/1.4 V

    Shuttle upgraded video card??

You should be able to run any high end agp card. From experience I know that it can run a 6800 with ease, and could probably take a 6800GT or X800XL. If you find that 200W is not enough there's also the option to replace the PSU with a 250 or even a 300W.

    Opteron 165 in SFF

I have one working perfectly fine in a Shuttle SN95G5 O/Cd to 2520 (280HTT limit in BIOS). But seriously, stock? That's not what Opterons should be for ;) You can get around the BIOS limitation with ClockGen, and the 240W PSU should be enough for most things (currently running X800XL + 2...

    Help on overclocking Opteron 146

My gripe is that a lot of the 146 CAB2E 0546 FPAWs seem to be hitting 2.8ish without too much difficulty. I've searched. Google. Ebay. Anandtech. XS. Very few seem to be stuck around 2.4/2.5 wizboy11, I've already tried running a lower multiplier (HTT and CPU). I think it managed 260*9...

    Help on overclocking Opteron 146

I share your pain. I have the exact same cpu (stepping and week) and it can barely do 2.4. I had a friend test it and he found that his heatsink was cool to touch (38C idle) where as on his 2.7 A64 3000+ Venice the heatsink gets quite hot. I've yet to retest it but we think it may have poor...

    Barton vs. Venice

Who says you can't OC in a SFF? I have a 3000+ running at 2.52GHz on a very low fan speed (~1000rpm, 92mm). Could probably do more but the BIOS has a HTT limit of 280 :( The Aspire you're looking at should run cool and very quiet with the 120mm fan. Also, heat isn't nearly as big an issue...

    Would you purchase a Shuttle?

This really belongs in the SFF section, and you could try Sudhian forums. Anyways, IIRC the Athlon XP is clocked faster than the Sempron at any given rating (eg AXP 2500+ vs Sempron 2500+). AMD simply revised the ratings, effectively lowing the clock speed across the original AXPs. Other than...

Yes, the stepping is visible. I'd pick the 148 as it simply costs the same as the 146, but does have the higher multiplier (kinda silly if you ask me  )
