Best case for x40 and or x60

I have the Kraken X60 (Bought it at Frys in Houston last week) I also have the CM6890 Advanced MK2 The CM690 MK2 fits the X60 at the top but the thickness of the radiator combined with the included fans will not aloow a motherboard like my Asus Sabertooth Z77 to be installed. The included fans...

ITX Case Build With Corsair H60 Possible?

I found the stock Corsair fan too noisy as well and replace it with 2x Arctic Cooling F12's. You can see the white fan blades in the front photo of my build.

ITX Case Build With Corsair H60 Possible?

At the time I purchased the components, a few months ago, I wasn't satisfied with the available S1155 based boards (H67 or H61) that were available. As well given that I would be running Linux exclusively, I opted for the previous generation for possible compatibility reasons. I should also...

Just checked out your link and it is very impressive............... I am leaning twords the Silverstone Sugo SG05B-450 but really wish it was about 1-2cm bigger in each dimension but it seems to be the "best choice" for what I want to do. I will post pics of the build.

ITX Case Build With Corsair H60 Possible?

I'm ready to start my next build (S1155 i5-2500k based). It will be ITX based and due to my overclocking habit and just plain "tech-Giddyness" I'm aiming to use the Corsair H60 self contained watercooling unit to keep my cpu frosty. Being ITX based and wanting to use this cooler I know that...

    ITX Linux Workstation Build

I would prefer a case that would allow my own choice of power supply to be used and not to be stuck with any manufacturers custom model. Lian Li has a few case models that fit the bill.

    ITX Linux Workstation Build

I have to agree. Pretty much anything you purchase in the tech world is obsolete by the time you get it home. For me, USB3 will have a bigger impact than SATA3, specially with the overwhelming number of systems only having one hard drive or SSD. I do like the versatility of the AM3...

    ITX Linux Workstation Build

Thanks for the great info. I've done some serious reconsidering of going the AMD AM3 mATX platform route given that it is rumored that Intel will be abandoning socket 1156 for 1155 in the near future. The rumour is that AMD upcoming processor releases may be backward compatible with AM3 (eg...

    ITX Linux Workstation Build

I've since given more serious consideration to an AMD based build. It is believed that the new & upcoming AMD processors will be AM3 compatible, not to mention the 6core cpu's available now, so the upgrade path is very clear while it isn't so sure for socket 1156. Given this possible change, I...

    ITX Linux Workstation Build

The time is fast approaching for my next build. It will be an ITX based one, my 3rd ITX build in the last year, as I've grown to love this format for various reasons. Here are some points/requirements for this proposed build. This build will be used as a daily general computing workhorse. It...

AMD Phenom II X2 550 Vs Intel Xeon 3110

The X2 550 was used as a comparison because way back at the start of this thread it was one of original 2 cpu's mentioned that started this conversation. Not sure how it evolved into a P2 vs i7 debate in particular since then we are talking about different market segments. My post was an...

AMD Phenom II X2 550 Vs Intel Xeon 3110

I just had a look at that link and I see a very different story. The X4 955 does pretty good, being bettered in many benchmarks only by the i7 series or generally more expensive cpu's. I don't read too much into benchmarks such as MS Office apps since my lowly Atom based Netbook runs office just...

AMD Phenom II X2 550 Vs Intel Xeon 3110

I have a core unlocked X2 550 (@ 3.82Ghz) in one system and an E8400 @ 4Ghz in my main box here in my home office. Using Everest v5.02.1750 on each the two systems the X2 550 Core Unlocked takes the top benchmark spot again & again. Here are some examples: CPU AES - Intel = 14785, AMD =...

    virtualization support

Actually if you are going "Bare Metal", setting up a dedicated VM Server, than the extensions are required for example if you are using Xen Server or KVM (Proxmox) which both require either Vx-T or AMD-V or they will refuse to work/install. As for virtualization on the desktop, VMware...

    Phenom2 X4 810 vs Core2 Q9400

My pleasure. Btw, Proxmox being a nice frontend for KVM, as well as OpenVZ, may be a real nice way to "get your feet wet" with KVM. Maybe more so than actually having to install KVM in your favorite Linux distribution & finding a user friendly front end on your own. KVM is great & runs...

    Phenom2 X4 810 vs Core2 Q9400

There are no 32bit Athlon X2's only 64bit models. You do actually need a "modern" cpu for KVM since it won't run without VT-x or AMD-v being present, it's just that you don't need to spend as much as you thought to get what you are after. Proxmox is basically a combination of web based front...

    Phenom2 X4 810 vs Core2 Q9400

You really don't have to spend that much to build a simple Viurtualization "Practice" machine. On the Intel side of desktop oriented cpu's, processors of the e8xxx series or higher or the Q9xxx series or higher support VT-x only. The motherboard you buy will also have to support this in the...

I've set out to build a dedicated server to host Virtual Environments (Machines & Appliances). I got inspired to do this for a few reasons. One of which is I like to test many different OS's and having limited amount of dedicated PC's around to do this (There are only so many the significant...

Dual slot and single slot gpu?

One main advantage of some Dual Slot solutions is that the gpu cooler is designed to expel the hot air directly out of the rear of the case. This isn't to say that all dual slot solutions do this but it is something to consider. A dual slot solution also may be an advantage in that a larger...

    The Dangers of Overclocking??

If you know what you are doing you will minimize the risks. Do lots of reading before attempting overclocking & proceed slowly & cautiously. I have both my cpu & video card overclocked and my system is on pretty much 24/7 with no issues at all.
