New SSD: WD SiliconEdge Blue 64Gb or Crucial C300

Checked on the 80Gb Intel offering and it seems to be around the $225 mark.. What about these other two drives are so sub par? Theoretically speaking, all these drives should basically blow the doors of a traditional HD, what different does it really make to have one just a little faster than...

New SSD: WD SiliconEdge Blue 64Gb or Crucial C300

Looking for some help deciding what SSD to purchase between the two I list above... Both drives seem to retail for between $140 - $150 delivered. Both drives are 64Gb drives which I think is plenty for a good Win7 64-bit boot drive along with all my applications. Both are MLC drives, both...

Performance on E6600 w/2Gb RAM - Help Please?!?!

I must have offended you somehow HeatMiser.. It wasn't my intention and I'm sorry. I have no idea on how to post a screen cap and like I said, I typed everything that shows up there in my original post. Sorry.. Jon

Performance on E6600 w/2Gb RAM - Help Please?!?!

Ooohh.. Excellent suggestion.. I hadn't thought of this but I did check the "power saving" settings in control panel and everything is turned off there so I woulnd't think the CPU would be doing any throttling activity.

Performance on E6600 w/2Gb RAM - Help Please?!?!

Not sure if I follow you here Blain. I think if I want to make sure my system is performing up to or near a "standard" comparing my results versus others with very similiar configurations is in fact a very WISE thing to do, isn't it??? Rendering times on this particular test doesn't involve...

Performance on E6600 w/2Gb RAM - Help Please?!?!

The CPU-Z scores are all listed in my original post. There's no point to do a screen print and post because I stated them exactly as above. Jon

Performance on E6600 w/2Gb RAM - Help Please?!?!

All systems are running at stock speeds, that has been confirmed. My drive subsytem should not be an issue as this "task" is not drive intensive, it's CPU and RAM intensive though. I have 3 - WD hard drives, all 7200rpm 16Mb drives and two of them are in a RAID 0 configuration.

Performance on E6600 w/2Gb RAM - Help Please?!?!

I do video editing work and I'm comparing my results rendering a file to many other users in a forum who are posting their timed results. They are able to render the same particular file in about 240 - 260 seconds, while my machine is taking in the 300 second range. There are about 20 or so...

Performance on E6600 w/2Gb RAM - Help Please?!?!

I have what I thought was a pretty good performing system until I did a little benchmarking and it seems my system is about 30% slower than comparable systems with the same processor/memory configuration. My systme spec's according to CPU-Z. Runnong on a Gigabyte DS3 i965 motherboard...

A power supply even the tree huggers could approve of

You know, I'm all for things that are better for the environment, but these regulations coming out of the EU are just plain dumb. Trace elements of lead in the casing of power supplies is such a non-threat their attempt to regulate such things is just plain dumb and a waste of time. These...

AMD 64 X2 3800+ ? Difference between Toledo and Manchester Core?

I'm not so sure though that Toledo marks a "step up" in terms of processor design and performance, particularly when dealing with heat disapation, etc. Look at this article http://www.lostcircuits.com/cpu/amd_x2-3800+/ It clearly goes on to show the manchester ccore to be the coolest...

AMD 64 X2 3800+ ? Difference between Toledo and Manchester Core?

Well, I'm not sure why one would order the part from TangGuys when they are $10 more than mwave.com and evidently $8 more than NewEgg and they don't have them in stock.

AMD 64 X2 3800+ ? Difference between Toledo and Manchester Core?

Actually, I've bought from mwave many times and prefer them. They have the X2 Toledo for $350.50 and I woudl presume shipping would probably run $10 or less. So that's a better deal anyway. Jon

AMD 64 X2 3800+ ? Difference between Toledo and Manchester Core?

Sweet! Thanks for the quick answer... So let me ask you this... If you were to buy one, which one would you buy, and also, power consumption is important to me, do you think the Toledo is every bit as good in terms of efficiency as the Manchester? Better.... Worse?? Thanks! Jon

The days of 1GB ram are over, sadly...

I think anybody here who wines and complains about spending $200 for 2Gig's of RAM is absurd! It wasn't that long ago I dropped down $800 for 64Mb of RAM! My first computer I paid $3,000 for had 4Meg's of RAM. So quit your wining and complaining. If you think it's too much, go get a job...

AMD 64 X2 3800+ ? Difference between Toledo and Manchester Core?

Can somebody help me determine the difference between the Toledo and Manchester core for the AMD64 X2 3800+? I've searched around the web and found an excellent article over at lost circuits that goes on and on about how "GREAT" the new AMD64 X2 3800+ CPU is with the Manchester Core. I go to...

    Building an Itunes computer.

In my opinion it would be absurd to save $10 and NOT buy Socket 754 with the Semperon's 64-bit instruction set..... Are we really talking about $10 here??? I mean, it costs more to take your girlfriend to McDonalds......

    Building an Itunes computer.

Absurd.... He wants a computer to be used mainly for playback of digital audio and you're going to let him buy speakers at staples???? Come on! At the least he should pick up a Klipsh Pro Audio 2.1 sound system for about $100, or if he really wants to spring for a good setup he should...

Sounds to me as though you are just more interested in building it then giving him exactly what he needs to get by. The iMac Mini I would think would fit this bill nearly perfectly.

    X-Fi versus Digital Out......

Okay, well now that I've downloaded and installed Flac 1.1.2, now I find that I have to go find a CD-Ripper software to make wave files first before I can rip directly to the FLAC format. Anybody have any suggestions on what a good, free ripper to use? Jon

    X-Fi versus Digital Out......

Now the question is...... I have to flash the Chaintech to get "bit-perfect" digital out. I own a Revo 7.1 PCI audio card with digital out. Do I have to do anything with that to get bit-perfect digital out?

    X-Fi versus Digital Out......

And my guess is that if I want to convert normal stereo 2-channel sound (as found on CD's and my ripped .mp3's or what not, I can have the home theater receiver work in Pro-Logic II mode which will simulate a surround sound effect? Jon

Okay... well this is a quote directly from the X-Fi page at soundblaster.com "SuperRip? allows you to rip your CDs into Xtreme Fidelity quality. The X-Fi 24-bit Crystalizer and X-Fi CMSS-3D features allow you to "SuperRip" CDs into Xtreme Fidelity quality so you can now enjoy permanently...

What company do you think makes the most RELIABLE mobo

I honestly think the answer to this doesn't actually lie so much in the manufacture as it does in the revision of the board and the age of the technology being used. I think the main thing that you need to do is stick with a "name" brand board manufacture who produces cutting edge boards...

I never thought the integrated IEEE 1394 made a whole lot of sense anyhow. As far as I was concerned, it just took up space and if I wanted IEEE 1394, I'd buy a $20 add in card that would give me 3-4 internal connectors as well as 2-3 external connectors. The Creative bashing is getting old...
