Well, I installed the JMicron file just like you said and now I see it in Device Manager, but I'm still no closer to figuring out how to shut down my external e-SATA drive. How does this perform hot-swap? Can you elaborate more on this? I haven't been able to figure it out.
I also took the...
Well I went to a local store and bought Win7 Home Premium Updgrade and now it's fully installed and running great - w00t! Install was a snap. I can't believe how much faster Win7 installed itself as compared to my old XP. I did the custom (full) install now I'm just installing some of my...
Once again after doing everything you said when we get to the F6 option it will not read anything off the floppy and just keeps asking for the HD manufacturer disc over and over. Thankfully, my friend brought a co-worker home, a young guy with quite a bit of knowledge about computers, and he got...
Yep, thank you. His floppy is already set to that, but we will double check anyway before proceeding. How should we set the boot order - Lite-On drive (which has his OS disc in it), then HD, then floppy?
Refer to my last post with the screenshot. I put my floppy drive back in and copied the files from the SB750 folder onto the floppy. I updated the screenshot.
Just to be sure you said to "In the BIOS, go to Integrated Peripherals. Set OnChip SATA Controller to Enabled. Set OnChip SATA Type to...
Well, those are the exact files that will be on the floppy when I get over to his house later today. Like I said I already took the floppy out of my computer. They will be the same either way. I hope by using my floppy drive that it will extract and install those files onto his HD. We've been at...
Thanks mfenn, you've been a big help. I know. I advised him to get Win7 myself, but he's kind of a tightwad (I say that lovingly, lol). I had already taken my floppy drive out of my computer so I just extracted everything into a folder to show you the screenshot.
He doesn't want to shell out the money for a newer OS so I guess he'll just have to deal with the headaches of this "ancient" one for now. Although I have read about people that have had to do this procedure even with Vista and Win7.
Ok, we'll try it again, but it did not work when we did it the other day (and we had the files on the floppy just as you specified). Hopefully using my floppy drive it will work this time.
mfenn, one more question. My friend was wondering why he has to go through all this (with the hard drive and drivers) to get his new system to install Windows? He asked me this because with my rig (I also have a Gigabyte MB) I didn't have to do any of this: I just installed Windows (XP Home)...
mfenn, thanks for your help. I downloaded the file onto my computer here then extracted it into a folder and copied all the files onto a floppy. There were two folders in the extracted files and I opened both of them and placed their contents onto the floppy. I now have all the files you listed...
We've been using his other computer to get the drivers and make the floppy, because that computer is working. We can't extract anything on his new computer because we don't even have Windows installed yet.
Ok, so when we download that file we should run (or extract it) to the floppy, correct? Then after that we should order what's in there like you said earlier?
Well, he just wrote Newegg last night about the RMA, but I will be going over there tomorrow to help him pack up the board. I will suggest doing what you described one last time before we take the board out of his computer.
Just to make sure we are getting the right file you described when we...
I can't describe them at this time because I'm at home and the floppy is at my friend's house. All we did was get the AHCI drivers off the Gigabyte website like you suggested and extracted them onto a floppy. We then hit F6 during WP install and then "enter' when it asked for the manufacturer's...
mfenn, yes we did, but when we get to the part where we hit F6 we can't get it to read the AHCI drivers off our floppy. Basically, it asks for a manufacturer's CD (we're assuming it means the HD CD), but no matter how many times we tried this it would not access the floppy and just kept asking...
Just on a whim we enabled IDE in the BIOS and hooked up an ancient 10GB IDE HD from his old computer. Hooked the IDE cable to the board and power from the PSU and it went right into Windows install and installed the OS without a hitch. Go figure.
I then brought his Samsung SATA drive home...
Since we already tried two other hard drives that I know work (they came from my own computer - one is SATA the other IDE) and we got the same blue stop error screen I don't think it's a driver issue (unless it's some glitch with the board or the BIOS). We know it isn't the WinXP Pro disc...
NP, thanks for your reply. Yes, we get the F6 option while Windows is loading up its files. We tried doing this by hitting F6 when it comes up, but for some reason it takes a while for it to recognize that we're hitting the F6 key. When it does stop it says to insert the HD disc, which we don't...
Btry, thanks for your replies. Since we already know that he purchased an incompatible RAM module for his motherboard then there's no need to run Memtest. We just need to get the right RAM for his mobo then we'll probably be all set.
We also get some DMI warnings upon post: AMD Data Change...Update New Data to DMI!
I'm not sure what this means so if anyone knows I'd appreciate the info.
Thanks.
Lyfer: He is using one stick, but I've found out that the stick he's using is incompatible with his motherboard. That has to be why we're getting that blue stop error screen.
Jack: There probably is, but we can't get anything off his motherboard CD. We tried sticking it in after starting the...
I'm helping my friend put together his first computer and we've encountered a snag. Here is what he has:
Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA785GMT-UD2H (rev 1.1)
CPU: AMD Ahtlon II X3 2.9GHz Socket AM3
RAM: Mushkin DDR3 1333 PC3 10666 Enhanced Silverline 2GB 991585
Hard Drive: Samsung HD502HJ...
I'm building a new computer and I've decided on the Gigabyte P35-DS3R for my new motherboard. However, trying to find RAM for this motherboard is proving to be a pain in the rear. Can anyone offer me any suggestions? Do you own this board and if so what memory is working for you?
I've spent...
Hi ken, I've just spent the last month exhaustively researching components for my new PC and from what I've learned I would recommend the Gigabyte P35-DS3R. This is the mobo I'll be getting soon. I decided on this board because of the Ultra Durable 2 design and the fact that it is $50 cheaper...
In reading the reviews of the P35-DS3L a few of them had the same fan issues and they resolved this by going into the BIOS and turning off the SMART fan feature. As one user commented, "I finally found a similar situation where the user DISABLED THE CPU SMART FAN CONTROL in the PC Health Status...
Thanks for replies everyone, but I found what I needed with PortableApps. I installed this program last night on my USB drive and then downloaded all the applications I needed from their site. It's not the perfect solution, but it gives me what I need for the time being.
I would like to run some apps while I'm on the computer at work, but without having to install them on that machine - just run them from the USB drive. I have a OCZ Rally 2 4Gig USB drive. If anyone knows where I can find instructions on how to do this I would appreciate it. Thanks.
That's just it - I don't know. I already thought about reformatting it, but it's not a floppy disc. It's a flash drive and it was not cheap. I don't want to ruin it.
