Performance bottleneck in my, soon to be, upgraded PC

bob: i wasn't going for top performance anyways, and since 8600 benchmarks the same as a 7600, the 8600 might not even wait for the other system parts. Selling off the ancient pc3200 ram modules wouldn't be worth it, as i can't take any money selling them, cause their so damn old...' The...

Performance bottleneck in my, soon to be, upgraded PC

I've been considering : MSI K8N Neo4-F motherboard. Then i can upgrade to a Athlon dual core from the single core later if its painfully slow

Performance bottleneck in my, soon to be, upgraded PC

Above average detail in 1028x768 or something like that. I wan't to keep costs at a minimum, thats why i wan't to reuse my ram & cpu... Btw, does anybody know if it's possible to buy a motherboard with support for Athlon dual core, while still supporting ancient pc3200 modules? I could buy a...

Performance bottleneck in my, soon to be, upgraded PC

You guys seem to have a side question going in here... Maybe that should be posted in an entirely different post. So you don't think 3x512 and 1x256 will work together? I don't know either, but from what i've heard 2x512 will run dual channel. Maybe they will keep running dual channel and the...

Performance bottleneck in my, soon to be, upgraded PC

What's worth paying attention to is that if i'm to buy new CPU and RAM it will in fact DOUBLE the cost, compared to just buying a new motherboard, gfx-card and the ram.

Performance bottleneck in my, soon to be, upgraded PC

Exactly right Sdiver. Maybe it's overkill with a 8600, but what pains me is how much the 8600 would wait for other parts.. i guess i can live with a 70% performance loss if i can use the upgraded configuration... Do you guys think it would be above or below 70%?

Performance bottleneck in my, soon to be, upgraded PC

I see your point. What Geforce 8xxx would, in your best guess, be best fit for my system then? 8500, 8600 or much less? or perhaps a 8xxx would be insane to put into such a slow machine? I've read that 8xxx unloads the CPU a lot....

Performance bottleneck in my, soon to be, upgraded PC

3x512mb+1x256 would get me 1.75gb ram... sorry

Performance bottleneck in my, soon to be, upgraded PC

Sdiver: I didn't mean to offend anybody or appear to know it all. I just wanted to know if anyone had any idea about how much of a slow down the CPU & RAM will cause. Let me ask another question: With this config: Amd 3200+ 64bit New motherboard - with PCI-E support, 4x pc3200 mem...

Performance bottleneck in my, soon to be, upgraded PC

A bottleneck is a part of a system that slows down all other parts of the system. I would think that it would be the CPU and/or RAM that slow down the system, and not a brand new high tech graphicscard?

Performance bottleneck in my, soon to be, upgraded PC

So you really think the bottleneck is the brand new Geforce 8600??? Please spare me for future advice... i really think you've misunderstood/misread the question.

Performance bottleneck in my, soon to be, upgraded PC

Thank you for your responses, but what i wanted to know was: Can you specify exactly where AND how big the bottleneck in the system will be, in percentages?

Performance bottleneck in my, soon to be, upgraded PC

Hi All!!! I've got the following stationary setup: Amd 3200+ 64bit 1Gb ram, PC3200, 2x512mb Sata 150, 7200rpm 200gb hd Geforce 6200 AGP I wan't to upgrade this machine, to make a mid-range gamer rig with Dx10 support. I'm considering buying: New motherboard - with PCI-E...
