    Vista Boot Help

I spent about an hour re-building the PC again, this time removing the CPU and reseating it, and re-doing all the cabling. Somehow, magically, my PC is now working, and at the very least, the cable management is much cleaner and more organized. I didn't do anything different from before...and...

    Vista Boot Help

I recently cleaned out my system, and re-did the cabling and in the process, cleaned the CPU and Heatsink. My case has a removable mobo tray, so it was very easy to unplug everything, and then clean the CPU without removing it from the socket. I used arctic silver's two-part cleaning solution...

Am I screwed? New CPU + RAM ---> Cannot Boot into Windows

I have to wait for the hard drive to come. Ordered from Newegg Yesterday, it should get here next week sometime. If I can solve this problem WITHOUT having to re-install windows, all my software, downloading updates (on my apartment's SLOOOOOW internet....) transferring my data, etc etc...

Am I screwed? New CPU + RAM ---> Cannot Boot into Windows

I forgot to mention also that I switched back to the old memory (Corsair Dominator PC2-8500) to eliminate another point of failure. The only thing that has changed is the CPU, this is essentially the same machine as from before it stopped working. I'm of course, running everything at stock...

Am I screwed? New CPU + RAM ---> Cannot Boot into Windows

c'mon guys, give me some credit :) Anyway, again, the boot drive will not boot. If I boot off the CD, then again, I cannot get past the initial load of the drivers....so I can't get into repair console, do a repair install, or even do a clean install if I wanted to. The boot order has NOT...

Am I screwed? New CPU + RAM ---> Cannot Boot into Windows

When booting from the CD, it starts to load all the drivers and such required to install windows, and then I get the error I mentioned above. I have TWO hard drives in the system. It will not boot from the boot drive, and I get the same error as above regardless of which hard drive I plug...

Am I screwed? New CPU + RAM ---> Cannot Boot into Windows

And I should mention BIOS recognizes my hard drives are present, not WINDOWS, since I cannot boot into windows or get to the installation from the disc.

Am I screwed? New CPU + RAM ---> Cannot Boot into Windows

I just upgraded my processor from an intel E6300 to an E6700, and upgraded my ram from Corsair Dominator PC8500 to Crucial Ballistix Tracer PC8500.... That part went fine. The computer posts and all of that. The problem is my computer will no longer boot into windows, and instead will...

thinking about getting the Dell 2407 FPW

Killr, what type of games do you play? I just ordered this monitor and should be getting it tomorrow. I play pretty much just fps and RTS on the PC (with the occasional MMORPG and Oblivion of course). I've heard differing opinions on the input lag and am wondering how much of an issue...

    Memtest and prime95

Regarding memtest, I notice there is a bootable binary. I am assuming I can stick that file into a USB key and boot from there? I don't have a floppy drive in my new rig, and I don't currently have any CD's to burn the iso onto....

Safe Temperature range for XP 4200+? (Overclocked)

OK, thanks. I couldn't figure out what the heck that 90+C temp was. Any idea why one instance of Prime would fail while the other one continues to run just fine? Again, I can run ONE instance all day, but when I run two, one will fail within 5-10 minutes (not always at the same place)...

Safe Temperature range for XP 4200+? (Overclocked)

Forgive me if this is covered somewhere, I did a search already but didn't quite find what I needed. What's a good "safe" temperature for the AM2 4200+? Mine is overclocked to around 2.7GHz (247 fsb/1.475v). I am using the Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe Wireless mobo. Speedfan, if I am reading...

    7950 GX2 -- who's to buy, and with conroe?

oops, I meant $100+ I was thinking the eVga was $400, not $500. In any case, the 520Mhz version of the XFX is $110 over the eVga. You could easily overclock the eVga to match the specs, at least if my own card is any indication.

    7950 GX2 -- who's to buy, and with conroe?

I have an eVga and an MSI card. The eVga was "only" $500 from Newegg, and I think that's a good deal. They also have a great warranty, the step up program, and they are the cheapest card you can get, so no complaints :) I don't know how high this card can go by itself, but with both 7950's...

Post your Quad SLI Scores here!!!

I just finished building my Quad SLI setup today, and posted my scores on futuremark. Highest I've been able to get so far is: 3dMark 05---- 13239 3dMark 06---- 8719 The 05 score seems to be OK, but the 06 score seems low to me. I see a few people with 9000+....not sure if I can get...

    pc won't power on.

bump I tried leaving the power off overnight (turned of the PSU and removed the power cable) to maybe discharge whatever juice is left. No change, still won't turn on. maybe I'll leave it off for the week and try again this weekend.

    pc won't power on.

I've done the obvious and ruled out the PSU and cable as the culprit. I couldn't tell you whether the CPU fan has failed or not, since the thing won't turn on at all! The mobo does show that it's getting juice. The power switch is not the problem. I tried running it on just the memory and...

hmmmm.... well, I left my apartment last wednesday for thanksgiving, and my computer was perfect... now, it won't turn on. at all. wtf???? it's not the power supply. I just tried a few. Has anyone else experienced this before? Funny thing is, it was running perfectly last wednesday, and...

    Is my vidcard toast?

The card was definately overheating. I've installed a Radeon 9200 on his PC and all the video is fine. I checked the Heatsink and it seems I must have not put enough arctic silver on it....there appears to not have been a bond between the Heatsink and the GPU. The area under the heatsink...

    Is my vidcard toast?

    Is my vidcard toast?

Recently the computer I built for my brother is having some problems. To make a long story short, there are severe graphic issues when booting up (in the form of off-color text, and random vertical lines across the screen) and sometimes windows loads, but usually it won't. All the...

    http://www.go-l.com/ Fake or real?

well, so I found this hoax investigation that pretty much says the same things I'm trying to say, with the added bonus of analysis of the phone numbers, addresses, and personnel! The section about "m. liebermann" and his adobe troubles is pretty amusing I thought. here's the link!

I'm probably a little late in chiming in over here....but to me it's an obvious fake. Browse the site and you will notice that most everything is just an existing product doctored in photoshop or some other image editing program. Everything's got a "pasted on" look, and you can see signs of...

    Asynchronous 2.4C@3.45 GHz

sman----your score isn't all that bad considering that OC. I get 4059, but that's with 489/348. My card isn't completely stable (tearing, artifacts....) even 1Mhz above that. Maybe we can get better OC's with better cooling?

    Stock P4 coolers

The swiftech big @$$ copper chunk is the "MCX-4000". I got one back in the day when it came with the TMD fan. Great combo, less noise than most other 80mm fans but equal performance. My temps were just as good with an Alpha 8942 and Sunon high speed 80mm. Haven't tried the Thermalright, but...

Why do YOU do it ??

cause I've got nothing else better to do in the summertime..... but I must admit, ever since I got my 17" powerbook, I've been working on my PC less and less......probably because I can't afford to buy any more parts, LOL. After I finish my linux box, I think I'll be done for the summer :)

    shuttle heatpipe....who's not using it ? (!)

It's true, the shuttle probably is no louder than an average mid-atx case, but I never did think the average pc was "quiet". My P4 2.6C is in a Lian Li PC68 and the loudest thing in there is the stock P4 fan, only because I can't install my zalman chunk o copper yet (the mounting blocks broke...

Minimum CPU to buy according to Kim Komando

I don't disagree with you one bit. I just know that for me personally, assessing my needs, looking at a budget, and getting the most bang out of every little cent by weighing what I want v. what I need has really helped me stay in the game for the kind of things I like to do with PCs. And...

    old skool O/C: PIII question

The tualy celeron sounds like a great idea! I had forgotten about them! as for mobo and ram, I still don't think it would be super-difficult to find the parts I need. I've found some Corsair PC150 online for reasonable rates, and I think 256 Mb for this project would be enough. the mobo IS a...

Minimum CPU to buy according to Kim Komando

I think one argument for buying a little more than a mid end PC for long term investment would be the fact that hardware has far overtaken most software, and especially today, if you buy a powerful PC, it WILL last a while. Bang for the buck is much higher these days. A 2 Ghz+ PC should last...

    shuttle heatpipe....who's not using it ? (!)

the heatpipe was installed properly, and temps were kept low. But these things are still too loud, IMHO because they chose to go for an 80mm fan and not a 92. After my mod, I can see that a 92 would easilly fit in this case, but the heatpipe WOULD have to be modified slightly. This thing was...

    shuttle heatpipe....who's not using it ? (!)

I got annoyed with my shuttle's noise, and decided to create my own cooling system for it. I removed the heatpipe, and attached a regular cpu cooler (Swiftech MCX4000 and TMD fan) to the CPU and modded the exhaust to use a standard 92mm fan. I'm going to add a side intake probably on the right...

    Zalman CNPS 7000-Cu installation problem

that's odd. The mounting blocks should be just slightly smaller than the holes in the socket 478 mounting "cage". When they slide in, they should be easy to remove, but should be very snug when the HS is tightened. Have you tried mounting the cooler w/o a chip to see how the whole thing fits...
