Anybody know if this can be. I have two systems with rev. 2 mobos. Home is a E6850, Work is a Q6600 B3 stepping. The work system has had nothing but problems. I checked the bios version for both mobos and found that my home system, which is OC'ed to 3.6GHz, has been rock solid and the bios...
I had a similar problem with a new build using a Thermaltake 1000 watt PS. System fans and light went on for about a second then shut off. It turned out to be the PS. I RMA'ed the PS and replaced it with a SeaSonic M12 SS-700HM ATX12V / EPS12V 700W PS. That solved the problem.
Mr. Beagle I see that the E6850 has dropped below $300 and I am wondering if it is worth it to replace my current E6600. The 6600 has been stable running @ 3.0GHz. Can I expect the 6850 to OC as reliably at a 25% OC? Or, will the Penryn run on this board and if so am I better off waiting?
Two weeks ago I build a new system and installed the Intel OEM CPU fan. I want to replace it with a Zalman 9700. My question is in regards to the thermal paste. Can I leave what is on the cpu and just install the new Zalman or must I clean off the two week old paste and reapply.
I am thinking of using Thermalright Ultra 120 eXtreme on the GA-N680SLI- DQ6 rev 2 motherboard. Has anyone used this CPU cooler and if so how did you deal with the heat plate on the back of the board. I know that with some coolers the plate must be removed which does not look too difficult.
Well I finally identified the problem. It was not the video card. After ruling that out I picked up an inexpensive PSU (575w) and popped it in. Bingo, the mobo powered up. Connected all the devices and loaded the OS without a hitch. Funny I would have thought that a 1000w Thermaltake at...
OK. I replaced the video card and it is getting power. System still does not post. I notice that the case power switch light and the floppy drive light blink on/off at a regular interval. So I am stilll at the point to narrow it down to PSW or mobo. I will see if I can get my hands on a...
Mr.'s Blazer7 and Beagel, thanks for the suggestions. What is baffling me is that I got the board to power up and stay on, but I would think that even if the video card is bad the CD Drive bay would open since it had power. The 24 pin is a single plug so I don't think that is it. I ran a...
Still no luck. Get power to all the fans, CPU and Case. EVGA 8800GT fan DOES NOT GET POWER. Tried the video card in both PCIe slots no power to fan. CD Drive does not open, light just blinks on and off.
Checked the power supply voltage and it is putting out the right amount. So is it the...
So far no luck. Board not shorting on stand-offs. All connectors plugged in correctly and seated. It seems that it is either the motherboard or power supply. Any way to tell which to check first.
Thanks for your feedback Beagle, Ozoneman and Jkresh. I think that the most probable source of my problem may be the HD, RES, PWR, front panel switches. I may have plugged them in wrong and I won't know until tomorrow when I can check them. I did not connect the 4 pin molex since I am running...
Need some help. Just built a sister system to mine except using a Q6600, Thermaltake 1000watt, and EVGA 8800 GTX.
Got it all installed and when I powered up for the 1st time got momentary power to the board then powered off. Lights up and fans spin for about 1 or 2 seconds then it powers...
Is it difficult to load the Sata drivers with an external floppy drive? I am building a system that will not have a floppy drive but will need to load the sata drivers so that I can config raid. Windows XP asks for the F6 option and defaults to the A: Drive and I am not sure if a USB external...
Gary,
Thank you very much for the follow up. I think that I will wait until the end of the month, or later if thats when the final F5 for the rev2 board is posted. My system is running solid and don't want to chance the beta.
I have the rev 2 board and I am wondering if the same bios is used in both rev 1 and rev 2 motherboards. The Gigabyte site does not show a bios update for rev 2, but for rev 1 it lists up to version F4.

Is there a difference in the bios between Rev 1 and Rev 2 boards? I would think not, but wanted to ask if anyone knew. The Gigabyte site shows only one bios update for Rev 2 and if I recall correctly there are three for Rev 1. My Rev 2 board shipped with F3.
Thanks Mr. Beagle. I think I will stay where I am for now. I Don't think that a bit more juice is worth causing longevity issues with the CPU or memory, or system problems. After all, the rig ihas been runniing very well for the past two days. So, I will "leave this sleeping dog lay"...
Beagle,
Thanks your suggestions have been very helpful. I use this system for photoshop work and have seen an increase in speed since applying your bios settings. THANKS.
If I get no more out of my memory I will be content. Having said that, if I can squeeze a bit more out I game to...
Beagle,
I am using Crucial Balistix DDR2 800 PC6400. I have 4 gig set to run at 2.2 and have the timings set to 5-5-5-18. I have been using the advanced bios settings that you posted on 6/15/07 since last night (Thanks for you post). So far it is rock solid and running around 40C - 41C CPU...
Thanks Smitty,
That was the correct command. I was able to make the timing changes and have been running my E6600 stable at 3.0GHz, memory at 5-5-5-12 @ 524 MHz. Any other suggestions to push the memory further?
Beagle thanks for your bios posting. I have been looking at my bios settings and they don't match, or give me the options you listed. I have the rev.2 board. Is there a difference? I am using crucial balistix DDR2 800 PC6400 that are running at 5-6-6-19. I could not find the location in...
