C2D build for moderate overclocking. Advice?

If I could get the e6400 and e4300 for the same price, which should I get (right now)? Should I expect a large difference in max overclock? If everything else is equal, I'd probably go with the e6400 ... the VT stuff isn't really used now, but it could be cool if it ever is.

AC Freezer 7 pro or Scythe Katana Cu?

It seems both can be had for about the same price ... is there a clear winner? I'm wanting to stick with these smaller hsf's so I won't need to be concerned about moving the case around a lot. I intend to overclock with an e6400 or e4300.

    PSU recommendation

From what I've gathered lately, the following PSUs give good performance for price in their range. I know everyone will say I'd be better off buying one of the high-end Corsair PSU's, but I don't really have the money to spend on it. So, which of these (or another in the $50-70 range) would...

C2D build for moderate overclocking. Advice?

Thanks gerwen. In that case, for just $15 more than the cheapest ddr800 2gb kit available, I think we'll probably go with the firestix that might end up having the micron D9's. And if not, oh well. Both those motherboards should be able to give them the 2.2ish V needed without a problem...

C2D build for moderate overclocking. Advice?

Guitar: thanks for the info regarding ram dividers! Since there doesn't appear to be a memory subforum, I'm going to assume this is the best place to ask... Anyone have some suggestions for reasonable RAM for OCing that's under $200 for the 2gb kit? Cheaper while still not being the limiting...

C2D build for moderate overclocking. Advice?

I'm helping my brother put together a computer that he'll be taking off to college with him. I'm rather experienced with building and overclocking machines, I just haven't really kept up with what's the best since my last build (early adopter, 939 opteron) I'd like to get moderate...

NVIDIA fan control / temp monitor

So somehow or another, the fan header on my NVIDIA card has gone bad. Plugging the fan into the socket on the board yields a fan that doesn't spin. If I plug the fan into my motherboard, it spins full speed. Since this is pretty darn loud, I put a fanmate between the motherboard and the GPU...

----------Why are LCD monitors thought of as better than CRT?

Another plus is that you can get widescreen LCD's. They may exist for CRTs as well, but I've never seen them. Also ... my 2405fpw LCD is heavy enough. I couldn't imagine carting around a 24" widescreen CRT. The biggest issue for me, though, is the refresh rate issue. Even at 80hz, some...

    Building a 1TB+ File Server

Your newest post reminded me that I meant to go back and answer these. 1) Yes! One of the many nice things is that it can show up as a single drive (or be partitioned just like a normal large drive could be) 2) I'm not really sure what you mean, but I think I touch on this in the next...

    Building a 1TB+ File Server

Thank god .. that other was far too expensive. FYI, that card doesn't do the hardware RAID5, but that isnt as big of a deal if you've got the 3000+ and aren't using the computer for anything else. To answer a queston from earlier, yes, the HighPoint RocketRAID 1820A does have hardware...

    Building a 1TB+ File Server

Oh, I forgot to mention -- some of those controller cards support PCI-X, but are still backwards compatable with regular PCI slots. Like someone else said, don't worry -- you won't be saturating the PCI bus (133 MB/sec) any time soon with a home fileserver like this. And even if you somehow...

    Building a 1TB+ File Server

You should *really* look into RAID-5. It's perfect for your needs. Regardless of how many drives you have in a RAID5 array, only the storage from (1) of the drives is dedicated for redundancy, yet ANY one drive in the array can fail and you can still get all your data. For example, if you...

KDS 19" CRT Monitor $67AR IS Back

My model is also 986N I suppose I do feel better not being the ONLY one who can't get this to work at 75... I can get it to run at 70 Hz, but the picture is (initially) HORRIBLY distorted, and even after 10 minutes of messing with the settings, I can't get it looking right... I'm currently...

KDS 19" CRT Monitor $67AR IS Back

I just got mine in today; the box says XF-9s. Office depot has it listed at 16x12@75, also. So I set my monitor to 1600x1200 and notice that it seems to be flickering quite a bit. Drop into advanced settings, and the only refresh rate available at 16x12 is 60Hz. Okay, so I double-check the...

Weird A64 (Neo Platinum) OC problem

Quick update on my system ... it's currently running at 10x220 (1:1) prime stable for ~3 hours so far. I don't remember what the HT is at at the moment. I'd still rather be running 270x8 at 5:6, though :-/

Weird A64 (Neo Platinum) OC problem

Yeah, there's really nothing wrong with using 2 sticks, just maybe a bit lower memory o/c. The 1 GB dimms were just ... substantially more expensive. Either way, my memory clocks to 230, but I can't get anywhere near that when I'm at 8x CPU multiplier and 5:6 divider. In that situation...

What's the advantage of SATA drives??

I was reading a motherboard review earlier today which tested data throughput with IDE RAID, SATA RAID, and individual SATA and IDE drives. In the majority of the benchmarks, the IDE implementation came out faster, with the note that: note that both IDE and SATA drives are 7200RPM why is...

Mobos & CPUs - Seeking Honest Advice

I agree on all points, but do have one suggestion. If you can spare the extra $36 (putting you at $522), you can get the WD 160GB sata drive .. doubling your storage space for just $36 more. another note, don't bother buying matched sticks of ram, as the socket754 athlon64's dont support...

Mobos & CPUs - Seeking Honest Advice

The most important difference between the vnf3-250 and the vnf3-150 is the use of a different chipset: the nvidia nforce3-250 and nforce3-150 respectively (i'm actually just assuming this from the model name, as chaintech's website doesnt even list a vnf3-150..) anyway, the nforce3-250 is quite...

GA-K8NS PRO [nforce3-250] (now available at newegg)

I'm basically waiting for the same thing as well, minus the sound card necessity, as I already have an audigy2 .. 250gb properly using the chipset's gigabit ethernet, non-pci sata, with decent overclocking options (downward control of the multiplier, working agp/pci locks, and a high upper limit...

GA-K8NS PRO [nforce3-250] (now available at newegg)

just to clarify what i was saying, i know that since this is an nf3-250 and not nf3-250gb, the gigabit ethernet is not supposed to be on the chipset, nor is the audio in either case what i was trying to point out is that due to the inclusion of the "Silicon Image sil3512 controller", it doesn't...

GA-K8NS PRO [nforce3-250] (now available at newegg)

I, like many other people I'm sure, have been waiting for some of the new nforce3-250 boards to come out. Chaintech put out a few that, as far as anyone can tell, just took their nf3-150 solution and dropped in the new chipset to try to take advantage of an otherwise empty market. Also, the...

    *** Official ASUS K8V/DELUXE (K8T800) Thread ***

I've had similar problems; I'm pretty sure my onboard ethernet controller is dead, and I plan on RMAing the board. The lights by the ethernet plugin on the board are off even from bootup (ethernet is enabled in bios..), and I know the connection on the other end of the cable works fine. I'm...

good mobo to oc a64 w/ lock?

How long do you think that'll be? I have a bit of time .. but basically only somewhere around 2-3 weeks where I'll be able to RMA my board. I guess I could always just return my current board and wait a bit to get the new one, but I'm not a huge fan of leaving all these wonderful components...

good mobo to oc a64 w/ lock?

I got an asus k8v deluxe se from newegg, but the onboard ethernet doesn't work at all, and i realized that with my sata drive, i'm not going to be able to OC hardly at all unless i've got a pci lock (got it up to about 225 before windows corrupted itself on my sata drive) so, i figure i'll RMA...
