Getting ready to go for the MSI P6N Platinum board to replace my aging Epox, but wanted to wait a month or so to see what price the E8400 settles down to. There is currently a $20 rebate on the board that expires on 01/31, but I don't want to get the board now and let it sit in the box for a...
Thanks bwanaaa.. I can't give up one of my IDE slots since I have 4 IDE devices so I think I will wait on the HD3850 until I get a new board in a few months. I can't believe I will actually be putting together my first ever Intel build with an E8400 after AMD has been so good to me over the years!
Man I'm confused - bozcak says runs an 8800gt on this board and I googled and that one is 9" long. bwanaaa says the 8800gts and 7800gtx are too long and they also show as 9" long. Anyone know for sure what the max length is w/out running into the IDE cable?
Still running this board well after 2 years but looking to upgrade my old 6600gt video card to a new HD3850 one. The card specs say it's 9 inches long, has anyone put one in this board and if so did it run into the IDE cable that's mounted at the end of the board? I took a quick measurement...
I can't tell from reading your post if you are running your memory at 250 or 200? Did you simply set your CPU Frequency to 250 and then set your Memory Frequency to 200 to achieve this? If so, did you change the HT Frequency to 4 or leave it on auto? What CPU are you running and did you also...
When you run 4 slots of memory it changes the Command Rate to 2T (from 1T with 2) which could explain why your 3DMark is slower. You should also check your memory timings because they might have changed when you added the new sticks. If you are using the AUTO setting it will use the SPD values...
Sounds like you did this but just to throw it out there, did you test both sticks by themselves to see if one of the two was causing the problem? Also, just a shot but what Bios version are you running? I remember reading in the big 9NPA thread that there was one version that some people were...
Have you tried running Memtest first to see if you are stable outside of Windows? That would be the first thing I would check to take Windows out of the equation.
BTW - the Prime95 torture test doesn't test all of your memory, there is a limit on the amount of memory it can allocate (check...
I like the forums over at guru3d.com for graphics cards. I always take a look what everyone has to say about the latest Nvidia drivers before I take the plunge!
Well it was worth a shot... there must be some common piece to the problem that you guys are having, hopefully you will be able to figure that out. Just to add to the confusion, I had SMART enabled in the Bios since I got the board until just recently and I haven't had the problems with either...
Are all the 9NPA+ Ultra boards revision 1.x? I bought my board back in June from Newegg so I'm not sure if there are other revisions or not. If there is, I'm wondering if the issue you guys are having with USB 2.0 is revision specific? Since the issue doesn't seem to be X2 or Bios specific...
The Media ID is probably not supported by the firmware so it defaults to 2x. If you don't mind patching your firmware you can head on over to cdfreaks here and check out the OmniPatcher to see if your Media ID is included, or if not you can enter it manually.
Use at your own risk, but then...
I have a USB 2.0 Harddrive connected that I use for backups and it works great.
Thuban - this is a great board and as long as you are using quality components you should be ok. Don't let the bad reviews scare you away from this board - every board out there comes with it's own set of...
Not sure what exactly you are asking, but when the "boot from CDROM" option is set you have to press a key on the keyboard when it shows up or it moves to the next boot device defined in the BIOS.
I'm using the 03/22/05 Bios and my system is rock-solid. If you don't need X2 support you may want to give this one a try as it was the last one before X2 support was added and the USDM from the CD should definitely work (although I don't think ThunderProbe will work with this version). Check...
The USDM utility that came on the Epox CD works fine for me as well as Speedfan and Ntune (I'm using the 6.53 Nvidia drivers). I think someone mentioned that the USDM from the website does not work correctly.
If you have a newer bios that supports Epox ThunderProbe you can download that from...
I had a problem with my old USB 1.1 Hub, when it was attached it would cause cold boots to hang at the info screen for up to 2 minutes (warm boots did were fine). I replaced it with a USB 2.0 Hub and everything is fine now. Took me a while to realize what the problem was, tore apart almost the...
No experience with this memory, but it should work just fine in the Epox. If you can't OC 1:1 then just use a memory divider and you should be good to go.
There's no guarantee on exactly what OC you will get with this board, your best best is to follow Zebo's OC guide and see what you can hit. You are right that the VS memory probably won't allow you to do a 1:1 overclock, but don't be afraid to use a divider to achieve your best settings.
For...
Thanks for the info - every time I try to download it from the global site it takes forever and I end up cancelling it. I'll stick with the USDM and Ntune since it shows me everything I need to know (except for the darn 12V line!).
Have any of you guys tried the new Thunder Probe utility? Any cool new features in it? I'm still using the 03/22/05 Bios so I don't think it will work with my version.
Is your slot fan in the PCI slot right next to the card? If so, then that doesn't give a clear path for the chip fan to blow hot air. I had my PCI modem in the slot next to my card and my temps went up to 90C under load, took that out and now go up to about 65C max.
Just a shot, but if your board is still under warranty you could RMA the board back to Abit. I've done a few RMA's with them and it's pretty easy to do. Good luck.
Are you using the USB header bracket that came with your board or a hub? Are the ports USB 2.0 compatible?
If all else fails, you can also try checking Via's site for USB drivers.
I'm also using the 03/22/05 Bios and my system has been rock solid. Sounds like the issues that you guys have been experiencing crept in with the first X2 Bios.
Have any of you guys emailed global Tech Support (support@epox.com.tw) to let them know about these problems?
I would suggest reading Zebo's excellent OC guide which can be found here.
The information is very helpful and should point you in the right direction. :)
