in my opinion... SATA 2 Port surely have backward compatible with SATA1 HDD... and vice versa. Like if you have SATA 2 HDD then you plug in SATA1 port... it will only works with 1.5gb/s not 3Gb.... it also applies with DDR, USB port.. they all have backward compatible feature...
