I really haven't set a budget. I've been picking up components as I find deals on them. I bought a TV turner card, and a DVD burner a while back on a deal, and I've got this left over memory. Have been watching for a nice HTPC case, haven't jumped on that yet. I want something that's quiet, and...
good article, both of their budget systems use the 6400 memory and the intel setup actually has an HDMI output rather than VGA. Although I've already got my VGA cables in place.
I don't have a processor on hand, so I guess whatever will mate up with the memory I've got. All the machines I have now are Intel, but this one will just be an HTPC. Are either processors better at that than the other?
been wanting to build an HTPC
I've got 4GB of PC2-6400 memory sitting around doing nothing. thought if I could marry up a board to use this it would be great.
anyone have suggestions? Don't want to blow the bank, but don't want a crap-o system either.
thanks
I've got an Intel BADAX board that's acting up, what if I slipped this one in, just moving all my drives, memory, cpu etc. over? Would I need to reload software or would it crank up and run OK?
I've always wanted a portable microwave emitter to toy with those who use radar detectors. Wonder if this one puts out enough to set them off 100 yds away.
Newegg always nails me with tax and most of their deals are AR, so unless it's a really good deal newegg is a washout.
This deal is great, no tax and reasonable shipping. Usually I get their stuff in one or two days.
since no one else is answering I googled and found this: http://www.devhardware.com/c/a/Memory/Dual-Channel/
looks like it will work fine. I also saw some info from Intel indicating the same thing.
So if I get two of these will they work as a dual channel kit? Is there a difference in buying a single stick as opposed to the two stick kits?
I need 4GB BAD!
got a kmart flyer yesterday announcing a 3 day sale, they had an Electron? brand cd/clock radio for $19.99
The picture wasn't very impressive. But I guess it'l play cds.
I bought 2 Phillips players at wally world a month ago that looked pretty sharp for $20 ea., they were on the clearance...
I just ordered two of these. When I got to the next to final click I got a pop up window that said one of my coupon codes was invalid and it added $50 back to each machine.
I clicked the details tab and the discount showed up again, $50 each. Just for arguement sake I decided to print this page...
That's good! I bought a Gig.
Not going to open the packages for a while just in case a sweeter deals shakes out in the next couple of weeks.
Best Buy should honor refunds up to 30 days on these and the rebate dosen't require a postmark until the first of Dec.
Anybody ever heard of Lei chips? I picked some up, all they had were either elixir or this Lei, thought I'd give it a try. I don't plan to overclock hopefully I'll be ok.

Thanks for your input.
You're probably right, I was just trying to get around the price tag. What type of added control to you get? I've also considering running it directly off the pc via the usb or firewire. I think the usb is 2.0.
thanks
I just noticed a Linksys usb wireless print server client. It can be connected either by cat5 or you can add a wireless pc card for wireless use. Apparently you can just connect it to your printer via usb and the cat5 and go.
Do you think usb would be faster than a parallel print server option?
I've currently got a network setup with a switch and Toshiba router connected to a dial up isdn line for internet access. It works great with the toshiba router handling DHCP stuff.
My question: I'm getting in a new printer, one of the new Epson 9600 wide format jobs. I want to connect it to...
I bought one to give to my son for his 8th birthday. I'm just now getting it finished out. Fortunately his birthday is not until next week. It's not a kit for his age so I've been stuck with doing it.
I took it out last thursday night after assemblying the mechanicals to give it a test spin. I...
My order for these was pushed back a couple of times. Got an email yesterday telling me the new del. date was 2/28, ouch! I don't need the right now anyway, so I'm gonna hang on. If they come through it's still worth the price, though I'm not holding my breath. ;)
I'm not sure, the rebate only illuded to the toshiba. BB did have some other items on the same table with this modem and start up kit, it may have been a D-link product. I thought it was probably a router, but I didn't really look at it closely.
As to the PM, I don't know if it's turned off or...
I called the BB rebate center and talked with Jenifer. She was very helpful and agree that the rebate form itself is somewhat contradictory. she called the comcast rebate line while I was on the phone with her and got the final low down.
It must be a new sign-up. I was going to post the receipt...
I've finally gotten to look at my rebate certificate more closely. It does say new residential customers. the rebate goes to young america, MN with a gillion other rebates. How do you think they cross reference this ?
the model is the pcx 1100U. and it has both a usb port and an ethernet port. The rebate goes to young america under the name comcast $100 rebate.
I'm going to call about it and make sure there are no catches on getting the $100 before I cut the upc off. I actually bought it for someone else.
I...
Toshiba PCX DOCSIS modem with USB conectivity for $150 - $100 rebate= $50. The rebate does not require new activation of service. I picked one up at the local BB along with a free connect pack which includes some misc. cables and software. Mine was an open box item with another $20 knocked off...
I'm trying to put an Emachine (yeah, I know) on the network. I've put the card in and installed the WinMe drivers. I've added the NetBios and TCP/IP protocols and I can access the network. I can read shared drives on other machines.
Problem is everyting is running with the NetBios protocol. I...
thanks for your response. After reading through some of the ATA questions in the other forums I decided to try installing the MS ata driver to see if that fixed the problem and it did.:)
I'm not sure why the Intel dirvers don't like the Philips cdrw. I'm not sure if the MS driver supports...
