    Video Card Upgrade?

To be honest, I think your 4870 will be just fine. What kind of power supply do you have? You might just throw another one in there when the prices hit ~150 or so. They scale fairly well.

    Accidently merged User\Username\Downloads folder...

So I was setting up a new system today and moving the user\mydocuments user\downloads\ folders to a second hard drive. Unfortunately, it seems I made User\Downloads and User\Desktop the same folder...is there any way to repair this? I dug through the registry and couldn't find anything...

    Reusing a Maze5 GPU block?

Nice. :D I agree completely. I'm looking specifically at which set of mounting brackets from them will work. http://www.dangerden.com/store/maze5gpu-stainless-steel-hardware-kit.html Series 1 or Series 2? Alternatively, I guess I could make my own...I'd just prefer not to go that route...

    Reusing a Maze5 GPU block?

I have some old watercooling hardware sitting around, a Maze5 GPU block among the odds and ends. Has anyone tried mounting one on a 5770? The clamp on the reverse side looks like it'd still fit, I just need to figure out what I need as far as the front of the card. Thanks for any advice. TC

    HOT i5-750

It just seems ludicrous to me that the stock cooler can't keep a STOCK processor from going beyond its maximum thermal spec. I was planning on overclocking, I just wanted to get the temps manageable first. Looks like I'll be fabbing something to re-use my trusty old MW-6002! Thanks.

    HOT i5-750

Hey guys, it's been a while since I've overclocked anything so I figured it best to ask a few questions now (rather than after I've fried something.) In any case, I've got an i5-750. Running at barebone stock with an open side the temperatures were ~40C idle and climbed to ~80C in under 30...

5770 -- performance issues? Low Vantage & WEI

Yes, I upped the fan speed a bit. I use IEMs so the noise doesn't bug me in the slightest. I'm using a Nextherm 460W PSU--it has two 18A 12V rails, given that I'm at stock settings using a low-power (95W) CPU and an SSD...I don't think that's the issue. I used it in a built with an Opteron...

Buying a SSD Trim? Brand? price range $0-$280

I went with a 40GB Intel-X25V...it has TRIM, I use it as my boot drive and the rest will be on a 1TB Caviar. That puts you at ~$230 total (from the 'egg), and the performance is screaming.

5770 -- performance issues? Low Vantage & WEI

I built a new rig which is having some odd issues with WEI (edit: NOW FIXED) and Vantage (still having trouble? ): ) with the following specs: i5-750 (stock, thus far) HIS 1GB 5770 40GB Intel SSD 1TB external HD 4GB GSkill DDR3-1600 RAM (dual channel mode) Windows 7 64-bit, Signature...

    Combining a 4770 and a 4870 down the road?

    Combining a 4770 and a 4870 down the road?

Hey guys, It's been a while since I've been involved in hardware...anyway, I remember "back in the day" that you could combine different cards in Crossfire. Would it be possible to buy a 4770 now, then later down the road when prices drop some more snag a 4870 and enjoy the performance of...

Can a case like the Q-Pack be brought as carry-on a jet?

You should be able to get it on. I've flown all over the place with my computer and/or pieces [power supplies, RAM, CPU, etc.] and they've only sniffed it for explosive residue. Nothing more. -T

    MY PUBLIC APOLOGY!

Anyone read Freakonomics? Incentives....what's the incentive for him to post it? If he was truly 'sorry', he'd apologize over a PM and be done with it. On the other hand, if it wants to drag a scene out and make a show of it, AKA ego inflating, then he'll make it public. Which one...

Any plain/simple fan controllers out there?

Careful with the holes, Lian-Li plates are a good 15 dollars each if I remember correctly. Then again, PSU mounting brackets are 15 dollars... (or so GY tells me.) Case tops are 15 dollars...(Perf.-PCs) I think I'm seeing a pattern with Lian-Li supplies. ;) Still, it's a novel idea...

Best slightly portable but roomy case?

Modding top-notch cases is usually what happens--if you want something high quality, but nothing fits your needs, you get the best availible and then do as little as necessary to it to fit your needs. I personally like to skip the plastic :D

Is it possible to instal Liquid Cooling in a Mid Tower case?

I've done it before...and from experience, it's tough. You have to sacrifice a NUMBER of your 5.25" bays....especially if you use a thick radiator AND thick fans. (MCR220/SD38's). A good option would be some of HWLabs' new radiators (the thin/low-profile ones. Less than an inch thick)...

    Moving/Remounting PSU?

Few things. 1) What power supply? 2) Would you be willing to cut a hole in the top of your case? 3) What kind of case (How many intake/outake fans, what size, positioning.) I see a few options.. Bottom mounting is one of them, but then you have to deal with mounting and everything...

    Project: Revamp is back online!

The volt mod was what my card needed. No longer crashes when overclocking...temps only budges a degree. So, here's what I did: Added ramsinks to the RAM on the card. Velcroed a Yate to my motherboard tray. (12V) GPU Core now tops out at 633 (vs. 530 pre-voltmodding and watercooling) @...

    Project: Revamp is back online!

Still need a connector cord for the camera. Keep in mind, this is in no way a 'final' build. Up and running, near completion. But not done. Here are a few things I need to fix/change: 1) The water tubing interferes with the fan that is over the GPU for memory. So, I am: A) Going to...

Dell goes AMD- the real deal?

Public announcement. Intel said "one unified price" for all OEMs and Mom&Pop shops. Meaning, your store down the street gets the same price as Dell. On the surface, it looks like a good deal for the normal shops--but the OEMs get a HUGE shaft. Who do you think buys the vast majority of the...

Most recommended 120 x 38 fan on the market?

Absolute truth. There is an audible whirring noise if they have been dropped--not loud, by any means. But existent. Also--just did a side-by-side comparison. The fan had been dropped, because there WAS a slight whirring noise. Without a doubt, then Sanyo Denki fan @ 5V is LOUDER than...

Most recommended 120 x 38 fan on the market?

Neal, my rig will be up and running tonight. I'll run them side by side. Completely subjective. But, YES, they DO move air at 5V--a substantial amount from my recollection. At 12V they sound like a turbo prop, but very nice airflow. --Trevor
