"Where are my G80 Vista drivers??"

And there will never be a DX10 game or other programs that use it until DX10 drivers are available. Your thinking is pretty narrow. You have to develop programs in order for them to be available for use by consumers. And you can't develop new software without the drivers to support the...

need a suggestion for new video card

I agree with deadken. Go for the 7900GS and save your money for a couple of months. Adding a few $$$ hear and their. Then when you see how the DX10 market is moving, spend your money more wisely. But, if you can't wait, get a BFG 7900GT OC for about $250. I have this card in SLI and I can't...

Touchdown! 8800GTX fits the Antec Super Lanboy

Hey, kuyaglen. I noticed in the picture you referenced that the memory modules are improperly mounted. For full bandwidth, you must have two equal size memory modules installed in identically colored memory slots. The system you have shown is losing a good deal of memory bandwidth. Use Sandra...

Help or advice on XFX7600gs please

Your use of the term "small screen" is a little unclear. I'm going to assume you mean you are playing a game in a window as opposed to full screen. The problem you are describing has to do with other applications that are running and using system Alpha mode. System Alpha blending allows...

eVGA 8800GTX - heatsink / fan assembly different than reference pictures?

All the 8800 PCBs are made by the same manufacturer. For a price, they will place stickers for the purchaser (eVGA, BFG, XFX, etc.). There could easily have been a slight mixup or shortage of stock on stickers so that the assembly site did a little creative cross dressing of the boards. Later...

    x1900xt 256 v. 1900xtx 512

20%-30% higher may be a bit of an exageration but depending on the game it could be close. With the latest price breaks for this equipment, ATI has brought the X1900XTX to within $25 of the X1900XT (for the 512MB versions). That makes the decision to get the XTX a no brainer. My...

    Performance Difference?

Sheesh. These arguments are getting so stale. You will be very happy with the E6600. And the DS3 is a great MB, you'll like it even if you decide to OC later. Your system specs will give you many months (maybe even years) of pleasure. Good luck.

Which Overclock Should I Use For E6600?

The voltage (1.5375V) is toward the high side but not out of the question for 24/7. However, the temps (67C under load) is TOO high. You should not run over about 61C (according to the spec). I recommend not using a voltage above 1.5V or a temp above 61C. You'll have to figure out what...

P5B or DS3 for e6300... need to buy today!

My experience is that using on-board video will reduce the overclockability of the board. In fact, any HyperMemory or TurboCache video cards will also lower the boards performance. Chose wisely. My recommendation is the DS3. It works very well for me. Not as good as my D975XBX, but for the...

    E6300, E6400, E6600 & E6700--Comparison & Buying

It looks like W.Fink did a good job with his article. However, there is very little data to make a real buying decision shown here. For instance, only one MB and one BIOS version and only one of each processor type. Not what I'd call a distribution of any system component. And to get and use...

Need help choosing RAM: Corsair or Crucial?

This is a tough call, Airflo. For your application either will perform very similarly to the other. Probably the deciding factor should be reliability. On that count I'd have to cast my vote for Corsair. Lifetime warrantee and excellent support (in my experience). The only stick of Corsair I've...

    not turning on!!

What thermal compound are you using? How much are you using? Are you spreading the compound over the IHS? or putting some in the center and letting the HSF spread it during installation? When you removed the HSF, was the compound evenly spread across the CPU? or was it localized to one section...

Ordered E6600 to pair with DS3. Should I change it to E6400 or E6300?

Notice how everyone recommends the processor they have? I recommend the E6600. I have no problems OCing the E6600. 3.6GHz was a snap @1.45 volts. Good luck!

    Overclocking an E6700

Did you, by accident or on purpose, turn off dual core usage in your BIOS? I believe you are only using one core. Open Task Manager and use the Performance Tab, do you see two graphs in the CPU Usage History section? If not, you have the second core turned off, or it's fubar. Good luck.

    HELP X6800 OC

Please tell us more about your stress test. When you say it "Stops", does it give any errors? If so, what is the error. Does it stop the PC? Or just the test? Maybe some additional info could help us help you. THe heat sink thermal junction with the IHS will definitely have a relationship to...

e6700 @ 3.75 Ghz.. but... high temps at load

Some comments and questions: 1) You aren't clear about the source of your temps. What does Core Temp read? How about Intel's Thermal Analysis Tool? Everest? There are several read points that each of these addresses. Just some more details will help you decide if things are OK. 2) Are you...

    several questions about my comp

Watch these temps when you are doing work that stresses the CPU; like compressing a video file or zipping a large directory tree. If any of them exceed 61.4C (See Intel's Processor Spec) then you should think about that after market HSF. Otherwise, just enjoy your new machine. :)

    Screeching??

It's the PWM MOSFETs and coils on the MB. These form the power supply for your CPU. When the CPU gets loaded (when you enter Windows) the power supply load causes oscillations. You can get the MB replaces but that is about your only alternative.

    Conroe's Highest Temps........

I have a D805 with an overclock to 3.2GHz and it runs about 56C loaded. This processor runs hot as do all the D8xx processors. When you reach 65C, then it's getting a little toasty. Until then, don't worry.

    Zalman 9500LED Sloppy on E6400/DS3

It "sounds" like you have the "S" bracket upside down. When you push down on the ends of the installed "S" bracket, they should spring up and back into place. But this is just a guess. This bracket is tricky to install correctly and easy to install wrong.

My Dilema E6600 vs E6400. Please Help

If you want a Conroe, buy the E6600 (the E6300/E6400 are Allendale). If you want to beat ALL AMD processors at stock speeds, hands down, buy the E6600. If you want really big OC FSB numbers that stresses the he11 out of you MB, buy an Allendale. It all depends on what you want to do...

It is now clear that current E6600s are not the overclockers' dream

Since the E6600's were so scarce early on, I bought an E6400. I figured if it worked well, I'd just cancel the order for the E6600. Well. The E6400 worked fine. At small voltage increases to keep temps reasonable on air, I was able to get 24/7 performance at 373 MHz FSB. That's 2984 MHz...

    E6300 Overclocking

Please don't spread lies. If you don't know, say you don't know. My D975XBX OCs great. I am running my E6600 at 3.3GHz with almost everything at stock (had to overvolt the RAM by +0.1V). Now, I don't have the 965 MB but I suspect that it has a similar OC technology as mine. Intel is changing its...

    Quick question on conroe processors...

I don't believe there is any difference. I bought an OEM version (I had my own ideas about cooling). Bought the E6600 and OCed to 3.3GHz on stock Vcore. Temp was marginal so I am running 24/7 @3.1GHz. My temps are gradually dropping as the AS5 forms the best thermal seal. I will shoot for 3.4GHz...

    Is this safe?

This sounds like a super pi single core temp. Create two directories, put a copy of super pi into each directory, run a different copy on each core, wait 20 minutes and then let us know your core temps. If it runs long enough ... hehehe I've very curious. Kango

Bootable standalone CD for stress testing processor overclocks (dual core)

Not Linux but if it's standalone, what does it matter. You can boot to a CD with Windows XPE using Bart's Preinstalled Environment (BartPE) bootable live windows CD/DVD. You can add the special applications that you find useful and do prelimary testing without jeopardizing your usual OS. I find...

My Experience: Core 2 Extreme X6800 and Asus P5W DH Motherboard (a step backwards with Arctic Silver 5!!!)

I haven't used the Arctic 7 Freezer but if it comes with pre-applied "gunk", you should consider removing that "cheap" stuff and using a good compound, like Arctic Silver 5. It will make a big difference. I can promise this. I use nothing else, anymore. Kango

    Extra E6600

If Tiger shipped it, be assured that your credit card has been charged. You already paid for it! Send it back only if you want to wait six months for your CC to show the credit. The only way you can erase the debt is to sell it and apply the money to your bill. My $0.02 worth.

    Intel Core 2 Duo E6400 $224?

It's just the economics of supply and demand. Moaning and groaning doesn't help. Ordering from the cheapest place will help. Where did you order from? And how much did you pay. If you say you haven't ordered then you're part of the problem and this thread won't fix that.

    E6600 WTF

They call it EIST and it is in the POWER menu. However, once you disable it in the BIOS you will need a program like RightMark CPU Clock Utility from http://cpu.rightmark.org/products/rmclock.shtml to turn off C1E. It will be in the Advanced tab. I don't know why C1E is not in the BIOS but it...
