    ****OFFICIAL WORLD SERIES THREAD 2008****

I'm happy for the team, they deserve it, but the 'fans' piss me off. They didn't support the team all season... They don't deserve it

Windows swap file - how large?

I have my pagefile set to 4GB on my C drive, and have a 2GB pagefile on a separate physical disk. I've heard not to move the pagefile from the Windows partition, and there's no point to have multiple pagefiles on different partitions of a single psychical disk.

Vista x64 RAM usage... what percentage is it actually using?

I think the performance tab of the task manager shows how much RAM is cached for Superfetch. It's not really a real indication of RAM usage since it gives up memory to you when you need it. Go by the performance meter on the sidebar, or the "Physical memory" number at the bottom of the task...

    Disapearing HDD Space...

I had a similar thing happen t my computer. I forget how much space I had free, it was at least a few gigabytes. When I turned the computer on all the free space was there, then over time as the computer was on the free space shrank down to nothing, but all of the files on the hard drive...

Did my video card just die?

I was adjusting the fan speed of my video card in ATI Tray Tools, and when I hit apply, the screen turned to blue and black vertical stripes. The screen then blacked out, a 'no signal' message popped up on the screen, and the video cards fan spun up for a second, like it does when it turns on...

Free space on C drive is shrinking

I've tried...the thing is, according to Windows, no file or folder is getting bigger. The only file on my C drive over even 200MB is the pagefile. In Task Manager, "System" now shows 1,187,747,368 I/O Write Bytes. Where all that is, I have no idea. If I select all the files and folders on...

Free space on C drive is shrinking

The hard drive is 60GB total. Windows is on a partition. I've checked all of my temp folders and they are all more or less empty. My desktop and documents are on a different partition. Temporary internet files for both IE and Firefox total maybe 50MB combined. My pagefile is set to stay at...

Free space on C drive is shrinking

Good thought. The process "System" is doing all the I/O Write Bytes. It's total matches how much space I've lost since restarting. It's doing ~7.5MB/minute of writes. It's CPU usage stays at 00 or 02. It's using 240K of RAM and 28K of virtual memory. It's not reading anything, jut...

Free space on C drive is shrinking

I have Windows set to use a 1GB fixed size page file, so it's not that. Good thought though. System restore is also disabled and I can't find any viruses... I also get an svchost error on startup

Free space on C drive is shrinking

I'm stumped with this one. I have 1.33GB free on my C drive, where Windows is installed. When I turn the computer on the 1.33GB shrinks at about 1MB/s. It keeps shrinking until Windows gives me free space warnings. When I restart the computer the free space is reset to 1.33GB. There's...

    Can the airplane take off?

The car would not move forward because the friction between the wheels and the surface (treadmill in this case) is what moves a car forward. The plane's engines have nothing to do with the treadmill at all. They push air, which is not affected by the treadmill

    Can the airplane take off?

Think of it like this. The plane is on the treadmill, the wheels are free moving. Tie a rope to the front of the plane and tie the other end to something NOT ON the treadmill in front of the plane. When the treadmill starts moving backwards, static friction causes the wheels to rotate. The...

    Windows startup problem

    External hard drive temperature monitoring

I have a Western Digital Caviar SE WD3000JB 300GB in an AMS VENUS DS-2316B2BK External Enclosure connected by USB. Is it possible to get temperatures from the drive through USB? Speedfan and NHC don't even list the hard drive. Is it possible through USB or does the drive have to be...

    Hard drive questions

I was thinking about this the other day. If you had Windows installed on a fast hard drive like a Raptor would it be faster to have the Windows page file on the raptor or another 7200 rpm drive? This is my first post at the Anandtech forum. I've been looking around it for a few days and...
