I've made some updates from my original build -- so I am at Version 2 of it now based on feedback - THANKS! - Any changes anyone disagrees with or I should revert away from ?
I've changed the CPU, RAM, PSU, Case and Monitor:
Version 2 of the components via NewEgg - Click here for details...
Thanks ... I'll think more about it ... also I am thinking maybe switching the XCLIO PS out for a SILVERSTONE ST50EF-Plus ATX 12V 2.2 500W Power Supply
bob4432 - I based my decision on trying the RAID 0 approach because I read this article. On my current gaming rig - I'm set up with a WD Raptor already as my boot drive and my data drive for other items is a normal 7200 SATA. Thus based on article -- RAID Ravages Raptor -- I thought I'd try RAID 0
Late4Dinner -- If your post was meant to be helpful -- thanks. I kinda of found it to be an "off" suggustion as the difference in a 19" monitor and a projection unit and the space needed for it to throw a projection and the wall needed for the projection -- seems to be quite different then...
Need to purchase a new gaming rig. Intend to Overclock using Air cooling. Will run 1280 x 1024 resolution max. Play mostly HL2 / DOD:S / BF2.
Any serious improvements on this build -- I've listed it out on NewEgg in my saved wishlist:
NOTE -- for monitor -- I'll most likely end up...
What about the config below -- any improvements for better items for same or lower price ?

Hi - Time for me to build a new PC -- for my folks and I wanted to buy them something I could use when I visit to play games on also.
Initially I was thinking about getting them a Dell 9200 or E520 using a C2D CPU with 2 GB RAM -- but I realized a few issues -- I wanted a decent good video...
Hi -- going to buy one of these bad boys ... and was wondering wondering if there is any difference at all between the ATI product and the OEM solutions ... at this point for the X1900XT card. Is there any reason to pick one mfg over another ... or is the only difference right now the best price...
TheTony and Georgepa -- Thank you very for the responses. I've gone ahead and pulled the trigger on the 199 for 12 month w/ phones deal.
I thought that would work best for me since I needed to get a couple of phones either way.
- raj
Quick and Dumb Questions before I pull the trigger -- What all do you get in the $ 199 package ?
is 15 months still available for $199 with the 2 phones and gizmo ...
or
is it 12 months for $ 199 with 2 phones and gizmo
- The "Gizmo" (VOIP Device I guess) -- how is it working...
I called 800 comcast and spoke to a rep. They said they didn't see any 29.99 for 6 month promo for existing customers ... but then the guy said hold on when I mentioned I'd probably have to drop them and go somewhere else ... he look up my account and then found a "Promo" that was available for...
All -- Thanks for the replies ...
For PSU --Which is better there is only a 10 dollar diff in price @ NewEgg
OCZ PowerStream OCZ520ADJSLI 520W
or
SeaSonic S12-500 500W
The case ... does it REALLY SUCK that bad ? Also can I get longer cables that would allow it to work with the built...
Stevty2889 - Wasn't sure if the DFI or EPoX mobo had a headphone jack ... couldn't see anything in the docs ... but line outs and speaker outs. Do I use one of those to hook the headphone up to ?
Been wanting to purchase but haven't and now is the time I have to pull the trigger. I've more or less decided on the items just need a few final suggustions on which way to go for a few items - MoBo, CPU Cooler and PSU. Others I've decided on.
MoBo - Which one for Good OC w Opty 144 and...
hmophone -- Thanks for the suggustions and the update to the rest of the members on what my reasons where.
RussianSensation -- Thanks ... unfortunately or fortunately -- one of my friends wanted to buy a system and asked if he could just purchase mine ... since he knows I'm afflicted with the...
hmorphone -- I'm coming around to what you suggusted above ... for the new gaming system I am building ... I am thinking I should do the following -- will it work ? Also can you confirm are you talking about a DFI Mobo that is based on the ATI chipset or the DFI mobo based on the NFORCE4 chipset...
All -- Thanks for responses ... Reason I need to get a new Vid Card and MoBo is because I sold my entire system in my sig ... so no more 7800GTX 256 MB and no more EPoX mobo *grin*.
Since it is a friend of mine ... I'll be turning it over to him next week sometime ... so I wanted to order...
Read through the thread and As I've been reading more and more on the forums tonight -- it seems like it is coming down to the following -
I know the nVidia SLI solution is more elegant but the ATI X1800XT card (Single) just by itself seems to be pretty good ... if not better then my "old"...

Been reading here for a while and now looking at the following issue --
A) Get a single X1800XT and down the road do crossfire on it. This should give me better performance then my "old" 7800 GTX 256 MB. Issue though is what MoBo that supports ATI Crossfire and is stable and good at OC'ing...

I had built the following machine in Mid August 2005 and used it until now and just sold it to a friend. I need to build a new machine for myself ... what would you recommend I choose -- BTW -- I ONLY use the machine for gaming @ 1920 x 1200 resolution with a 24" LCD (Dell).
Machine Sold off...
Hi -- I just got an update from TankGuys on an order and had to cancel -- thank god they are good about that stuff ... I caught it before it shipped.
In their update they stated they received a shipment of AMD Opteron 146's ... They got 4 CABYE stepping CPUs and 36 CAB2E stepping CPUS...
I'd say not hot ... go for Sirius ... much better programming on their and more interesting options ... the equipment is a short term investment ... the monthly re-occuring fee is a long term investment ... choose the proper sattelite company ... Sirius IMHO.
Hi - Using Speedfan right now ... but not a fan of it (no pun intended). It shows the wrong 3.3v rating at 1.6x volts, etc. Have used MBM a long time ago and liked it ... on another machines ...
Anyone know how to get MBM to work with an EPoX 9NPA+Ultra ?
Thanks
coomar -- actually I used Torture Blend test with setting the preferences to let it use up to 1500 MB of RAM if it wanted to. I just took a picture of the tests it had last finished when I got home and stopped it after running for 11+ hours.
A question I do have is -- what is Prime95 stressing and failing on when running the Torture Blend test with the setting of use 1500 Megabytes of RAM ... the CPU or the RAM -- which item is causing the rounding > .05 as compared to less the .04 or something like that -- is it RAM or CPU ...
All -- I purchased the Dell Dimension 9100 a month ago .. tried it out for 2 weeks and returned it to Dell. It's a quiet machine with a 375 rated Power Supply -- that WILL HANDLE a nVidia 7800GTX card (I'd my eVga 7800GTX overclocked at 489 / 1400). The machine using WoW and BF2 (with 2 GB RAM...
I'll play around with the settings for OC'ing a little more to see if changing the CPU multiplier to 8 instead of 9 that I am currently using and increasing the FSB setting up to at least 325 -- which should give me 2600 on the CPU side with the mem a little slower works .. if it does .. I'll...
Safeway -- I got the 7800GTX since I didn't have a card at all (Mac at home before) so I picked it up for 490 bucks. Also I am running at 1920x1200 at all times ... so I figured with the higher resolution and cranking up the AA and all it would help ... and it has ... since I played with a 6800...
What do you think ... got the MoBo, CPU and RAM from NewEgg this week only.
The exact MoBo is the EPoX 9NPA-Ultra set with 1.7 volts to CPU and 2.9 Volts to RAM (set through BIOS). The RAM is two sticks of Crucial's CT12864Z40B.M16FD not the .16T
NOTE: SpeedFan is showing Vcore as 1.63V...
Hi I just got my EPoX 9NPA-Ultra based system put together and got WinXP SP2 installed etc. Was trying to use the nVidia NVMonitor app and it tells me "Your system does not have BIOS support to launch NVMonitor.exe" and ends.
Have I configured something wrong ... or should I be using...
Have an EPOX EP-9NPA+Ultra MoBo with an AMD Athlon 64 3000+ 939 CPU, 2 GB RAM (1GB x 2 modules) and the PCIe slot has a 7800GTX Graphics card in it.
Was wondering if anyone else who has this MoBo could recommend a 3rd party Northbridge cooler that would work better then the one included ...
