Anyone ever used this board with 2gb sticks of memory? I will be running VMWare (host CentOS [linux], many different guest OS's), and would like to go with 2gb sticks so I can get 8gb of mem. I may start with just 4gb. I would probably do some mild over-clocking .... System as purchased so...

pctwo -- As others have pointed out, a worthy successor to the K8NGM2-FID is the ABIT NF-M2: ABIT NF-M2 You might want to check it out. The only ommission over the fid is no Svideo out. --mrnuxi

Replying to my own post -- DUH: AM2 supports DDR2 533/667/800 memory (240-pin), so it should be no problem supporting 4gb of memory

As I have mentioned before, I am interested in running 4gb of memory at full speed. Apparently the FID will drop to 333 memory speed when 4 sticks of memory are used. Anyone care to speculate whether an AM2 board would not have this problem? If so, I would use that instead.

I need as much memory as I can get for the following reasons: 1. I run linux and do software development with lots of virtual desktops, memory-gobbling java development environment (Eclipse), many multi-threaded apps, etc.2. I do very little with typical Windows 32-bit single threaded apps.3. I...

I was just about to get a new system based on the FID and then the core 2 duo splash hit, prices dropped substantially on the AMD cpu's, and now I'm waiting just a bit longer to see what shakes out. Also to see if any equivalent (integrated video) boards come out for core 2 duo. It just doesn't...

Kind of what I would have expected. Glad you're operational again. I would still suggest burning the following two CDs and keeping them around for times like this and/or disaster recovery: 1. Knoppix 2. Ultimate Boot CD later, mrnuxi

ajemm: I would reiterate what someone else has suggested: get yourself a Knoppix [live linux-on-a-CD] CD. Assuming you use DHCP to get IP address, gateway, and DNS server under Windows, Knoppix should boot right up and get all your settings and be live on the network. Test that for an hour...

Hi there, Fantastic thread! Thanks to renethx and all others who have contributed. I have read ALL the posts over the last few days. I am close to going with the FID, but I thought I would ask some questions before I do. The K8NGM2-FID seems like the perfect mb for me because I have no...
