Thanks amdhunter for the reply :). I've downclocked the gpu core by about 25 mhz and everything seems to be stable so far in WoW. No crashes either. But I also uninstalled the Nvidia firewall that came with my mobo software package. That's been screwing with a lot of things too. Beforehand I...
Hey everyone, I've been having some weird graphics glitches and some strange crashes with programs(World of Warcraft especially)
Here's my setup:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
Asus A8N-E Mobo
500W Seasonic S12 PSU
2GB OCZ memory
ATI X1900XT video card
SB Audigy ZS2
This problem first...
Sounds like artifacting to me. Dust that gets caught up in the video card can be a cause of that since it adds to the heat buildup. But if everything's been cleaned off and the same thing happens in another computer, it may be a failing video card(my opinion, just a guess). If you can, test the...
I'm very tempted to get one of the open box models for the 20wmgx2. I never did like dealing with rebates...I just hope it doesn't die on me or something =/. I'm a bit hesitant too since I've heard some things about the screen being difficult to see in fairly well lit environments. I hate second...
I know some games don't support Quadro cards so you might get some weird graphical glitches with them. Either that or they'll just plain crash whenever you start it. It's happened before when a friend of mine played Splinter Cell on her machine. However some games are fine so...your mileage may...
Sorry, I should have posted that earlier!
Specs:
Seasonic S12 500W PSU
A8N-E mobo
AMD X2 3800+ with Zalman 3rd party cooler
ATI Radeon X1900XT 512mb
OCZ 2gb sdram
Ok, I'm trying to figure out which part of my computer has crapped out. My video card had a warning light that said something was wrong with the power coming into the card. This led me to think that my PSU was somehow broken. But, power is still being supplied to the computer. Everything lights...
Ahh...I should have posted this in the initial post. Sorry!
I have tried re-seating the video card, I've plugged and re-plugged the power cable but it hasn't worked so far. I'm starting to think that it may be the power supply. It would explain the power led that's lighting up.
So I shipped my desktop down to my college dorm and when I booted it up for the first time, nothing was showing on the screen. And my monitor was still in sleep mode. I cracked open my case and I noticed that my video card's fan would not wind down. It was blowing at 100%.
Then I noticed two...
Ok, so I just shipped my desktop to my dorm room and something may have been damaged in transit. I tried booting it up for the first time and nothing was showing on screen. The monitor was still on standby mode. I checked the video card and the fan was running at full speed(without winding down)...
I've used Ontrack before. I had a hard drive that was physically damaged from a head crash and they were able to pull some stuff off. Not everything though. It was just too badly damaged. But yeah, like everyone else has said. This can cost you upwards of $1600 or more if it's physically damaged.
I have a seagate hard drive and normally it's really quiet, but now whenever it's reading or writing something to it, it's making very loud(relatively) clicking/reading sounds. It's usually very rapid and goes on for "bursts". I'm backing things up either way, but this seems very strange...
The computer will be used mainly for Maya and Photoshop. I know those both support multi threading...question is, how many of those cores will actually be used.
Thanks for the suggestions! I think I've settled on not getting dual xeons and opting for a quad core :)
I'm trying to help a friend put a workstation together and I'm wondering, besides the price, is there any advantage in having a quad core over 2 dual cores or vice versa? I've been trying to decide whether or not 2 dual core 5140 xeons or 2 e6600's are somehow better at batch rendering than a...
Hmm...I may have to rethink my choice then. I'm used to working on Dell 3007WFP monitors in school which use an S-IPS panel. They're fantastic and I think I would be fairly disappointed if I got anything significantly worse. But, still...money is a factor so I may have to go TN or something...
I've heard a lot about the Samsung 226bw and it's definitely a good price. I'm thinking of picking one up. The only thing that makes me a bit apprehensive is the fact that it's a TN panel. I'm not sure if that means it has the same drawbacks as other TNs though since the handful of reviews I've...
I've actually just thought of that, potato. I figure I'm limiting myself by looking only at headsets. So, I've decided to get a good pair of headphones and separate mic. Forget those original picks! I've been searching these forums and I came across head-fi.org and there's some serious...
I'm thinking of buying myself a mid-range headset since I have a roomie and I'd prefer not to have sounds of explosions and gunfire going off everywhere ;). I'm pretty set on getting a headset since I need some kind of mic for VoIP, Ventrilo/Teamspeak and recording dialogue for my projects and...
I got mine at a Best Buy today! Apparently they had 19 but a bunch were mistakenly put on the shelf and one was sold before they could hide them again. I waited there since 5:30 and the line was full at 6 so I'm damn glad I decided to wait earlier than I originally planned to.
We had a...
Shh! Don't tell them about Best Buy! I gotta get my Wii ;). I hear that Nintendo is supposed to have a massive and I mean *massive* shipment coming in the next week or two. We're talking 3 million Wiis coming in. 3 times the amount in the initial shipment. So, forget ebay and just wait it out...
Thanks for the reply! I edited the choice for my PSU a few times actually haha. I'm assuming you mean the other Enermax(Noisetaker or Whisper or something) I had changed to. I decided to go with a Fortron one instead since I'm pretty sure that can handle the 7900gto and more. It's a bit cheaper...
I'm not sure what is causing this problem and I'm hoping I won't have to switch out major components. Yesterday, Windows would not start. After my motherboard splash screen showed, there was nothing but black. I thought nothing of it at the time and restarted the comp. Windows worked fine. Today...
Ok, there's been a few threads about highest overclock but what about lowest? I'm curious as to whether or not anyone has gotten the "bottom of the barrel" batch of XT cards. The reason I ask is because I tried overclocking an XT and I can't even get 650mhz core clock speed without artifacts or...
I just wanna say that trusting "facts" from a biased source, in this case evirotruth, is like the three little pigs asking the big bad wolf about the wolf threat in the area. A big name company will not dole out money to these groups unless it is ultimately in their best interest.
On global...
This is really strange. I know they don't have any moving parts so... I have an Athlon 64 X2 3800+ and I benchmarked my system with 3dMark05. When the program started doing its CPU tests, I heard tiny clicking sounds in sync with what was going on on the screen. It was under heavy load at this...
Hi everyone. I couldn't find any mention of the TJ05 on the boards and I was wondering if anyone here has had any experience with them. I was planning on buying one and I was drawing to it since it had such nice reviews regarding cooling. Keeping the insides cool is a pretty major factor for me...
Thanks for the comments guys! I'll definetely look into the Zalman fan, InlineFour. Oh and yeah, the Wavemaster is very similar to the case I'm looking at. I may change it though if I think I'm spending waaaaay too much. Here's a link:
Silverstone Temjin 05
As for the power supply, I've...
Hi guys, I'm new to building computers and I figured this would be the best place to get some advice. I've replaced parts before but I've never actually built one from scratch. I'm actually having fun researching and figuring out what parts I'll need. My budget is about $1500 and I have several...
