    WindowBlinds, performance and stabilty

No to pretty much all your questions. WindowBlinds 6 (the latest) version should not impact your system performance at all. In fact, many of our tests have shown that WindowBlinds is actually faster than the default Windows theme service. As far as changing system files over time, I'm not...

    ObjectDock by Stardock

I'm using ObjectDock Plus and it's using just a few mb's of resources. Resource usage is not really an issue anymore with applications such as WindowBlinds. Check out this article on ExtremeTech which did some performance tests. http://www.extremetech.com/art.../0,1697,2219726,00.asp

Is there a free version of WindowBlinds 5 or something?

Just remember that with Windowblinds you will get features such as per-pixel alpha blending, the ability to change theme colors on the fly, and it does not replace your system files as the theme hack does. It also takes up very little resources, and actually uses less than Windows theme service.
