    Stop 0x0000007B

I've been having some trouble with upgrading my motherboard. Receiving the topic's stop code at every attempt. Using my old motherboard (945P chipset) I uninstalled all current drivers and disk controllers in hopes I could transfer windows without a reinstall. Then I swapped the motherboard...

    Making concessions...GPU or CPU?

7600gs will treat you well. In my experience with it I've done medium settings on medium resolutions and had 40+ fps on anything from WoW, to Zero hour and Tib wars. Mind you the 7600 was paired with a P4 2.8Ghz with hyperthreading. So a pseudo-dual core and a 7600gs did just fine. A cheap...

    Audio offloading

Hello everyone, I'm looking for an audio card under $35 before shipping that will offload any or most audio processing from my CPU. As it is I'm marginally happy with my OB sound, so I'm not too finiky about sound quality. I'm looking for some suggestions and my primary concern is simply...

    Yet another computer build!

If I remember correctly, the GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3R is quite popular right now and performs extremely well. Though eprsonally, I've had my eye on the DFI LP UT P35 T2R

    Yet another computer build!

That PSU is Seasonic built you shouldn't get any trouble from it. I also support the notion to get a SATA optical drive. Much more manageable. Also, For a graphics card I would toss around the idea of getting the ATI 2600XT for 99.99+shipping from NewEgg. It saw performance increases...

Opinions on this Build for a Fam Member

I did build a budget system a few weeks ago, except my friend had a monitor to use. Screenshot of components Adding your monitor to it wouldn't push the cost too far. Keep in mind I opted out of the Pictured FSP and got a 350w Antec Basiq (FSP built) from OfficeMAX for $9.99. The system...

    128 ram computer

Disabling system services could help. At any given point I run about 26 services on 256MB of ram. When i use a machine with 512 or more I don't notice any difference personally in generally computing (Word processing, internet browsing, etc.)

    Tight budget, Need some suggestions

K, I found about $25 in savings from those sites via gfx card, HD, and RAM. Thanks. Side Note: I have a spare DVD burner so I don't need to buy another for the build!

    Tight budget, Need some suggestions

Also, I found a newsletter from newegg making the 3800+ 65Wtdp cost only .50 more. Would the 3800+ OC better than the 65nm 3600+ with stock cooling? I'm hunting down whatever deals I can find for these parts or better! So thanks for the site names dclive! And for some reason I just can't...

Comp takes a really long time to shutdown

I don't use Anti Virus either and have been virus free for about 1 year (I do at least use AVG and nod32 every 2 months to make sure.) M$ released a little program to help XP shut down a bit faster: http://www.microsoft.com/downl...E2F3582&displaylang=en Also, CTFmon is not a required...

Trying to repair install, does not detect windows partition

If all you've done is replace the motherboard it might be easier to pop the old one back in, boot, change the ACPI to "Standard PC" and the Chipset drivers. Shut down, replace with new mobo, reset the ACPI and install new chipset drivers. That's always worked for me, then a quick chat with M$...

    Continually missing video driver

Ok, I've run 3dmark, aquamark, pcmark, and various other AMD/Nvidia tech demos all without fail before this started happening. I've even done a complete OS reinstall twice. The card was purchased new to replace the same version that had failed. Sorry, I didn't even see this was replied to...

Core 2 Duo Overclocking - which CPU/Chipset combo?

In terms of RAM, you can go for good 667mhz, or cheap 800mhz. Either should do what you want. Personally I found some G.Skill at NewEgg on sale for 80.99 (2GB (2x1gb) DDR2-800) and it far exceeded my expectations. I have them running at 667mhz, at 4-3-3-11-1T timings @2.1v and synced to my...

    e6600 temps

Oh wow.. I did read the wrong instructions. But the temp is right around where it should be now. I figured the thinner the layer the less efficiency loss would occur anyhow, so long as the entire spread is covered. Thanks! I guess I might end up lapping it anyhow. @bfdd, fan always at...

    e6600 temps

I followed the on site manual exactly. It states apply a line about the length of a small grain of rice, and a razor or something similar to spread. I think, that if I had to re-apply the AS5, I'd also lap the heat spreader. I didn't think I'd get it stable at 1.35, but it's working fine...

    e6600 temps

I've got my e6600 OCed with a Scythe Ninja Plus Rev. B. What baffles me is the temperature. I noticed the AT guys got a quad core to functiuon under load at the same temp I idle at. I applied Artic 5, perhaps jsut abrely more than the "grain of rice" size they specify, and have a 120mm...

    Another PSU help thread!

I always knew modular cabling just provided 1 more point at which the psu could fail.. But all my research had shown that as long as the contacts were the same metal there was no need to really worry very much, or really anymore than I would with a normal psu. I'll defiantly take a look at...

Best bang for the buck gaming system-- please comment

Yea, fans can help alleviate the Northbridge heat, but so can aftermarket heating solutions too. Small fans and heatsinks for the northbridge/southbridge are available all over. A word of advice for future PSU buying, 18A on 1 12v rail is the max "safe" limit set by Intel's ATX specs. Of...

Best bang for the buck gaming system-- please comment

Vista, from my personal experience, is more or less just a bloated rewrite of XP right now. Hopefully its first service pack will bring some of the features that were originally promised and intended. If you still want to go for Vista, I'd personally be looking at the 64bit version. If...

    Budget PSU

Gotcha. I've got enough broken HPs and Dells lying around that I can forget about a case until later. So my focus becomes a PSU with 30A or more for future upgrade that is under $65 before shipping. I should be able to find money for shipping in the couch cushion XD

Well if that isn't a kick in the rump. When it comes to my own rigs I'll end up spending 3 months on research alone. All the locals here are just old farts who want word processing and email. Rather terrible actually.. Highest population % of retirees in all of Florida. Perhaps you'd feel...

    Budget PSU

That's only got 23 amps on the 12v though =\ Doesn't than get close to starving the x1900? But is cheap enough that I could splurge on a dedicated video card PSU. ----- I'll look into that, looks like enough amperage according to ATI's recommended 25amps. To afford a better PSU (I know...

AMD or Intel die hard fanboy

I've always loved AMD, but i wouldn't call myself a fanboy because I still reccomend intel chips and what not to friends over certain AMD chips. But with the release of C2D I love intel now for this reason: THey forced my favorite chip maker to drop price 40 - 60% :P But 2 years ago if you...
