Is this a ok temp for my computer and cpu?

There must be something not good about your power supply, especially the +5v and +12v rails. The fluctuations should never go over +- 5%.

Quick question about quad core overclocking

I have my Q6600 installed on an MSI P35 Neo 2 FR - a budget mobo. Getting to 3.0 ghz is just a matter of setting jumpers to 333 positions. 333 x 9 = 3000mhz. I think other mobos should give you that feature. Good luck!

What's the test of a 'good' overclock

That's a good question. I don't believe in 8-hour stress tests because my application rarely needs more than 90 minutes to finish recalcualtions, using 100% CPU resources from start to finish. We used Lavalys Everest Ultimate edition to stress test 3 times CPU + RAM in 2 hours each -...

    Windows cannot access file

You're right. I'm going to remove AVG and rely on MSI Core Center to monitor heat if I want want to overclock furthermore. Thanks for telling me the obvious. Sometimes we were worried too much and forgot to step back and ask "Do we need this?"

    Windows cannot access file

Hi everyone, I just built a new machine. Everything seems fine except problems with 2 applications, Speedfan and a game. When I tried to install my AVG anti virus program gave me a warning threat. I turn off AVG and try to run but got the message "Windows cannot access the specified file...

Potency loss of Arctic Silver 5

I just bought a CPU cooler (Cooler Master Hyper 212), a tube of thermal grease included. 18 months ago I bought a tube of AS5 for my AMD X2 4800.By that time AS5 was rated as the best thermal grease. Is 18-month old AS5 better than the throw-in Cooler Master grease for a Q6600? Thanks for your...

I have never overclocked. I read about q6600 overclocking downloaded all the utilities

TungFree: I'm going to overclock an Intel PC for the first time next week - hardware is on the way from newegg. My goal is to reach 3.2 ghz on a Q6600 GO. Is it possible to start with default values then manually set divider to 1:1, FSB to 270, CPU multiplier to 9 (default?), Vcore to 1.320...

    Dual Core or Quad?

I just check newegg a few minutes ago and was surprised to see listed prices. E6850, 3.0ghz, FSB 1333, $280.00 E6700, 2.66ghz, FSB 1033, $320.00 Is that a typo on newegg's part? more expensive mobo & RAM to handle FSB 1333? Any clarifications would be appreciated.

    CORSAIR CMPSU-520HX PSU

The thumb rule I was told is that price drops the day after your purchase.

    CORSAIR CMPSU-520HX PSU

That CMPSU-520HX supplies very steady juice to my overclocked AMD 939 4800. Once I watched for 1 minute - the 12v rail just stayed at 11.96. Quietness is a bonus.

Stuck at BIOS greeting too long!

Narrowing down I found that the cheap Lexmark usb color injet printer I installed a few months ago was the problem. Replaced it with an old HP usb color injet and the usb controller can be enabled. I don't know why that Lexmark printer worked for a while then acted up.

Stuck at BIOS greeting too long!

Thanks, guys. I'm going to change BIOS options and/or unplug that Lite-On optional drive to see which one is the culprit. UBS controller is "enabled" in BIOS to be able to use USB sticks not I never boot with a USB stick plugged in.

Stuck at BIOS greeting too long!

Please help! Recently, when I press the power button, the bios greeting screen comes up a few seconds later then gets stuck there for 10 minutes before I can see the windows screen. After that everything seems fine. Is there any cure for that nail-biting problem? Thank for any help. My...

How can AMD make money come Apr 22?

How long would it take Intel to kill off AMD using price war? Fab costs and salaries come from investors, not from Otellini's and/or Gelsinger's pockets of Intel. Investors these days want returns of their investments fast. I don't know how much it costs Intel or AMD to make CPU's but it's...

    X2 4800 hates command rate T2!

Didd you mean "work fine with T1"? If T1 work with x2 4800 on your motherboard, I would think I have problem with either my motherboard or bios on that board. I have the latest bios for my MSI K8N neo4 Plat though.

    X2 4800 hates command rate T2!

Please help. I just replaced an AMD 3500 with x2 4800 and couldn't make it work with T2. Blue screens then reboot by itself. When the 3500 was there, T1 worked just fine even @ 2714. Does anyone have any idea to make it work with T1? Thanks. MSI K8N Neo4 Plat. AMD x2 4800 with stock HSF...

So basically, Conroe is another Northwood situation again

I spent $1100 14 months ago for an Athlon 64 rig (MIS neo4 platinum, Venice 3500+ @ 2717mghz). I'm not going to spend more than $500 to upgrade unless new exciting applications make me feel that my computer is underpowered. I don't see them coming. redbox is right. If a nice cheap X2 is...

Do Intel & AMD take eachothers CPU's apart??

Agreed. Intel's and AMD's headquarters are neighbors - less than 5 minutes of driving. Their engineers, coming from corners of the world, have lunch at same reastaurants, frequent same clubs, may have same girl friends or boy friends... Loyalty? What's that?
