may be but my current memory is cas 2 and all they have is cas 3. :(
This is a number crunching machine so I assume that I will notice the difference.

Never before have I been bitten so bad by a processor choice. I went for the opteron 180 only to find out now that it is obsolete. It is supposed to be a server chip... Any how, my memory went bad in my computer so I returned it for warranty repair only to find out that they don't stock my ram...
Good day,
I have a DFI LANPARTY UT nF4 Ultra-D Socket 939 NVIDIA nForce4 Ultra ATX AMD Motherboard setup working since 6/2006 with the following drive setups:
c: single 80gb lDE drive,
d: a 250gb SATA raid 1
e: a 400gb SATA raid 1
When I boot up I am told that my 250gb raid is...
Thanks Cr0nJ0b,
I am going to assume that Fibre Channel is out of my price range.
I am therefore leaning toward #2 of your options. Do you know of a $200 or so board that is good and faster than the onboard RAID?
Anybody have an informed opinion about which hard drives to use? I am...
I have 2 gigs of RAM and a Intel Duo core 2 6700.
ehehehe, Madwand1 you sound like a programmer. It basically is done during down time but I actually have to create 4 databases each time so I have to keep running back to see if it is finished. Currently we are (arg!!!) using Access so that is...
I wanted a dual boot machine with XP because it will be awhile before everything is vista compatible. Dual boot failed. So I wiped the Vista totally and just went for XP, 3 days later I have it running. But I am very nervous about future upgrades and issues. It is like a ticking time bomb.
I...
Good day all,
Not to start yet another raid thread but I am after more specifics.
First off, I do not care if Raptors and such boot up faster. I leave my computer on 24/7 and a little speed boost once every weeks or so isn't what I am after.
I am a software developer compiling software...
Sounds like you are thinking of purchasing a dell xps?
One thing I WOULD make sure is that the model that you purchase does not use the iastore storage driver (but it looks like it does). Do a search on Dell and iastore.sys. It isn't just an xp issue. It is also a vista issue
I just bought...
I am torn over the Cooler Master CAC-T05-UW and the Antec Solution SLK3000-B Black Steel? Thoughts? Better choice?
Here is what I found on new egg:
Antec Solution SLK3000-B Black Steel ATX Mid Tower Computer Case - Retail $54.99
Model #: SLK3000-B

Thanks, the thread is there. going to turn on PM as well.
(note, this is for another development machine, not my number cruncher, I will post the results of this thread when I get the computer.)

I am building a development machine and need stability but am low on $$$.
I was told that it is possible to overclock the e6300 to over 3.36.
Can some very knowledgeable and nice guy please spec out a machine for me? Please leave nothing to my imagination, I will screw it up. :)
-Markus
I don't think that overclocking is an option, this program is going to be running (crunching) for days/weeks on end.
any reason you guys are choosing the E6300 to overclock? The E6600 on up has 4mb cache where the E6300 has only 2.
The number cruncher is a single threaded app and will be for the near future. If I get time (which means I got investments) it means I will have money to buy more computers.
because, I currently have a dual-core opteron. And it appears that dual-core doesn't mean anything when you are hitting the hard drive. When I load, say outlook, both procs are pegged and I am assuming that this is because of hard drive access.
While we are on this point, are there any tools...

Hey Guys,
Thanks so much for you help.
I will post my configuration here for your carrusing.
Do you know of any good custom build vendors? Like GamePC, they have always been good to me but are currently a little expensive. I have normally built all my own machines but I am running 2...
Hey Guys,
Thanks for the input.
So was what I heard correct, that intel is better in integer math, or do you guys own intel stock. :) If so it looks like the Intel Duo is the way for Integer number crunching. No SSE. The application is currently written in low level C with pointer and...
I need to build an integer number cruncher. This program is single threaded and extremely memory intensive. No hard drive activity after startup. It will run for hours, days or even weeks on end.
Someone told me that intel is best at integer number crunching.
Any thoughts on this...
My question isn't any more off topic than the xbox!
This is a highly technical question! I need experts to give me true insite instead of people who may have read an article the other week.
I need real answers by people who know what actually is going on in hardware not just what they are...
Hey guys,
I need a powerhouse machine. I am running a extremely memory and cpu intensive application. The process currently runs for days and of course we want to speed that up. We are no doubt optimizing our code but there is also a need for the best hardware (please nothing too extreme, we...
