    8600GTS 3DMK06

http://itbbs.pconline.com.cn/topic.jsp?tid=6864651&pageNo=1 This being true, it would put the 86GTS on range with a 7900GT/GTX. :? Courtesy: Jaydeejohn for the find.

No dude, 320 / 640 are equivelent - the BFG 8800GTS 320 is actualy 4fps faster than the stock 640 in this benchmark. http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/416/12/

Help Choosing a Video Card - Please

A 7900GS or GT should do what you want for now (very well) imo. Talking 150 - 225 dollar price range, give or take. Though like tiger said; a 8800GTS 320 is 300$ on the button, offering much more performance and longevity. When I think of on-board video, libraries, offices, and public...

8800 320 for sure. Here's a good comparison between the 7950GT 512 and 8800GTS 320: http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/416/11/ The full article: http://www.guru3d.com/article/Videocards/416/1/ In most cases the GTS320 walks away with double, yet at higher resolutions and dense...

    Recommend Video Card

About as fast as the 7600GS. Example, 1650Pro in blue. http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics....elx=33&model1=529&model2=588&chart=204 For 2D textures, it should work flawlessly though.

91.47 good perf. and 93.71 is a performer but the 93.81 beta drag - yet they have good IQ.

    3D Mark 2001 Results

Wow. That 'is' a crappy score for the x1600. I don't think you'l find PCIe x16 will do anything more for that than AGPx8. It is said that AGP can't utilize anything past x4 - supposively there isn't an AGP (or PCIe) videocard that can produce the bandwidth to fully use it. Some of the most...

    6800 oc still worthy?

Make sure it's not an XT equivelent with crippled pipelines The XT preforms close to a x1300 actualy n' the OC won't help it if it is. Yet if it's a GT or GS equal, it would be quite a worthy card.

    External Video Card

Gotcha. Great inovation. Hopefully this will take flight on a desktop PC as it will solve two problems being external with an external power source. PSU (watt, amps) and ambient videocard heat/chasis heat.
  17. I

What would be a worthwhile upgrade?

Anything above a x1600 or 7600GS with your cpu. The X2 will preform well with any of the current gpu's on the market. Whats your price range and game selection like?

BFG 7800 GS benchmarking scores. Are these good?

4xAA, 16xAF, high quality in nview, 93.81 beta's. Seems as though 3dmark05 shoot out some random marks. Some people have reported scores within 4000 on a comparitive system. I'd rather use CSS, Doom3, or BF2. Though, the problem may lie within 93.81. I get more slow downs and have heard of more...

New graphics cards - do you do 'anything' to them in the first few months?

Hell, I use my 8800 to eat on. When I'm real dirty, soap - water - and my 8800 to scrub. Heh he, I'd be 'ify' with a 600 dollar videocard too. Ofcourse your voiding the warranty, if, and that makes it worse. Guess it just depends on how easy 600 bucks comes. 200 bucks, ok. I'm gonna do a...

    odd problem

Could be the drivers or too much of an overclock. Some games handle OC's better than others (if you have it OC'ed). BTW, how much amperage is on your PSU's +12v rail(s)? The fan fluxuation in 3d is (usualy) low-power to full-power toggling on and off. Low-P defaults your fan low as High-P...

Issue with Force 93.71 Clock Frequency Settings

If you don't see your HD light on, and can't move the mouse, it's the clock settings. The memory clocking over 2GHz must be a confliction.

    Best Video Card

I'd wait up for a 8900 which is about to appear here soon before dropping 600 bucks on the G80. With the release of ATI's new R600, it may turn 600 bucks into 500. :D

Are there other dangers in overclocking a GPU besides heat?

Heard a few cases of houses going off like atomic bombs after certain faulty 7900GS's hit 1700MHz on the memory. 625 on the core will sometimes implode your PC into a black hole. Either way.. it's not good. :D

Will my PSU handle a GPU Upgrade?

If your gonna get another rig in a year or so, I'd stick with the 256mb version. Free UPS ground / Insurence on a XFX 117$ : pricewatch.com/video_cards/ Don't know how secure or reliable that is but it's cheap and silent with passive cooling.
  33. I

Will my PSU handle a GPU Upgrade?

XFX: Great cards, pre-overclocked, and overclock (more) well. BFG / 3D Fusion: Overclock well. Hmm, I'd message the seller if you can't get a straight answer on the 12v rating. If I recall right, the 7600GS calls for 18 or 19 amps on the 12v+ rail and 300w at the least.
  34. I

Will my PSU handle a GPU Upgrade?

Well, you could always get a cheap 300 - 400w'er for 40 bucks (who cares if it burns out @ 40 bucks :)) and get a 7600gs for around 110 bucks. That would be a good gain and about all that P4 could handle. Make sure you take measurements of the PSU encasement if you go that route. Dell, having...

Will my PSU handle a GPU Upgrade?

Believe it or not, the PSUs they use in Dells and Gateways are actualy of high quality, huge circuts and coils. Heard of labratory Gateways being on for years 24/7 w/o a hitch. If you upgrade, make sure it's not a cheapo and has sufficient amps on the 12v rail(s). Got a Dell XPS 410 w/ a 375w...

    Some more R600 information

As long as they can keep the core and shader cores high it will produce some flashy frame rates. What ever happened to the R600 being dual-core as proposed by the Inquirer?

    Should I turn down the eVGA's step-up for a 8800GTS

Agree. Keep the GTO, wait for spring or summer 07. :) You'l be able to pick up a (proposed) 8600GTX for a good price and it will probably rock your GTO.
