A Quick PhysX comparison with Mirror's Edge

So, it seems to me that PhysX started out as a bit of useless technology, not because the tech itself wasn't any good...but because of the lack of support. I read tons of reviews back then concerning the BGX PhysX add-in board, and recall being very underwhelmed. Things have changes...

That cable is similar to the one I use. I paid about $12 for a Link Depot branded one from newegg. Interesting opinion on the Westy, it seems to me that many people still prefer it...maybe it's just because they are bias? Good luck!

You are correct, but in that config, I was only at 3.2GHz. Check out the photos from six posts up, and you'll see my current config which is stable up to 3.85GHz.

If you feel comfortable removing the motherboard, I think you could handle the rest. It's not too hard. BTW - if I crank the fan up to full speed (1900RPM) I can run the CPU stable at 3.85GHz with 1.575V. I prefer not to push it that hard (and the fan is a bit noisy at full tilt) in the...

Thanks for all the comments you guys. I've really been enjoying it, and I'm glad I didn't compromise by getting a 24" or something like that. This is the best computer upgrade I've ever made. I use a Thermalright 120 Ultra Extreme with a Scythe Slipstream fan @ 1000RPM...

My viewing distance has increased to 3 1/2 feet and IMHO it is PERFECT!!! I can still read all the text on the web without straining. I wish I would have mounted it about 3 inches lower, but mounted at an angle compensates.

Bug report for Gygabyte GA-P35-DS4 Rev.2.0 ***F9 BIOS***

Not to worry, the board is rock stable...a "false positive" means that the program (memtest86+ v1.7 in this case) is erroneously reporting problems that really don't exist. This post was just an FYI for the community.

Would the real 28-32 inch monitor for GAMING please stand up!!

Glad you liked the pics, I am also a CRT convet. This being my first LCD, it was a tough decision. And There are still things I miss about my CRT (like black levels), but those thisngs are fading fast in my memory. I had a Viewsonic P95F+ 19" @ 1600x1200x85Hz and I loved it....but I'd never...

    8600gts powerful enought?

I cannot believe nobody has asked what resolution you plan to run!?! This will make a dramatic impact on the percieved performance of that card. If you plan to run your games at 1280x1024 or less, you might be alright....and based on your budget, that's probably the case. I think you did just...

4ft away, seriously, how can you read text? I have to sit with my eyes at least 30" away or I can see the pixels, I'm most comfortable at about 36". It's very relaxing not only on my eyes, but also for my whole body. Before I was looking at a 19" (18" viewable) CRT with 1600x1200 resolution...

There' lots of people who like the idea of a larger screen. But the 30" model's with 4MP resolution are a bit expensive (especially if you have to upgrade to cutting edge graphics for games), so a slightly lower resolution display like this is just the ticket. Mabye it's just me, but of your...

I thought I'd show off my latest upgrade, my new Sharp 32" monitor. The display is up and running fine at 1920x1080 (1080p). It is beautiful, and everything looks/feels very high in quality. Sharp's packing was better than expected as I had this shipped from NY to Japan via USPS. It was not...

    Reduced Overclock Potential?

Interesting, I've had the same issue with my Opteron 165. When I first got it (1.8GHz @ 1.35V stock) it would run all day at 2.7GHz with stock voltage. About 9 months later, I was having stability issues, and I ran Orthos again to get errors. I ended up having to back off to 2.5GHz, but was...

    STALKER - SMP boost

Durning gaming sessions, it looks like I have one thread using 100% (of 1 core) and another using about 30-40% (of the 2nd core), because my overall load in the task manager is steady at about 65-70% for the whole process. The graph of each core looks more like 80% for one and 50% for the...

    Any advice?

See if memtest will pass with slightly more relaxed timings (eg 2-3-3-6 T1). Also, if you do the adaptor for the larger fan, make sure there is sufficient clearance (at LEAST 1 inch) between the top of the fan and the oposite wall of the case (or you could cut a hole in the case, and duct down...

    AMD pounding out CPUs...

Yes they are currently meeting demands...but demand is relativly low, because their prices are relativly high....once FAB36 rams up, the hope is prices will drop, and demand will increase (to ofset the extra supply), it's really not that complicated.

highest quality laptop / notebook brand?

For quality I'd go Lenovo, but you pay a premium. I've got a 2yr old Thinkpad R40 that's been through a hell of a year in Iraq with no problems. But, I beleive in the new chassis their putting in a lot of the new "toughbook" types (yes, Lenovo is one of these) if you need durability.
