I recently had lots of trouble with my new HD 5870. The problems all went away after I updated the BIOS on the video card. I suggest you check your card vendor's website and see if there is a BIOS update for yours as well.
I realized that the BIOS might be the problem after checking out some reviews on Newegg. The card has F3 and I'm going to update it to F7. Hopefully that will clear things up. I'll let you know soon.
I have one monitor connected via display port.
I have not overclocked the card.
I installed Media Player Classic and it plays fine there. I have no idea why windows media player is crashing. I am gonna have to try to get to the bottom of this.
I think maybe later I'll try the card in a...
I have already done a fresh install of Windows 7 and the problem persists. I can play mpgs just fine until I install the Catalyst drivers. I have tried the drivers that came with the video card and also the newest drivers from ATI's website. I get the same crash either way. I thought perhaps I...
I just bought a Gigabyte GV-R587UD-1GD. I installed the most recent Catalyst Control Center. Everything seems fine except I cannot play mpg videos. When I try, the driver crashes and sometimes the pc freezes completely. It must be a driver issue because the video will play fine before installing...
I never was able to get far enough into the Windows 7 installation to install any drivers.
I returned the motherboard and got a similar Gigabyte board as a replacement. I ran into the same problem. I did figure out that it was my dvd burner that was causing the issue. If I hook it up to the...
Thanks for the replies...
Windows does install when I switch to the sata 2 ports but it hangs if I plug anything into the sata 3 port. I tried just plugging in the dvd burner with my hard drives on sata 2 and it still hung. I'd just like someone to tell me if that's to be expected when using...
Yesterday I picked up an open box Asus P6X58D Premium motherboard from a local B&M store. Just for kicks, I decided to try installing Windows 7 Premium (on a Crucial CT64M225) using the Marvell SATA controller. The Windows installation hangs on the black screen that says "starting windows". Is...
When I read that Gigabyte released the beta BIOS, I pulled my Asus Maximus out and put my Gigabyte P965-DS3 back in. I get the same overclock I had with the Asus board so I'm returning it and sticking with the Gigabyte.
The Asus P5W-DH Deluxe board uses a 975 chipset and according to the Asus Website, it is compatible with E8200, E8400 and E8500. I believe those chips are 45nm
Actually, if anyone here knows the answer, it would be quicker. Gigabyte says they aren't answering email until after January 8. I guess they are on vacation or something.
What ever became of this? I have a GA-965P-DS3 (rev 3.3). When the new Intel 45nm processors come out, I'd like to get one. Naturally, if I can avoid buying a new motherboard, I will.
I have an Onkyo receiver and I'm expecting some Infinity rear surround speakers to be delivered any day now. I was wondering if there was a way to connect them wirelessly. If so, are there any negatives to doing it that way?
Suggestions on specific hardware purchases will be appreciated.
Is that supposed to be a bad thing? ;)
I have been seriously considering the Auzentech cards with coaxial output. I may run up to my local Microcenter store tonight to have a look around.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I'd need a card with coaxial output so the Chaintech card wouldn't work for me. As far as the X-fi goes, I really wouldn't want a coaxial cable plugged into the front of my computer all the time either.
Any others with a rear coaxial output that would beat my...
I recently purchased an Onkyo receiver and I hooked my computer to it using a coaxial cable using the onboard sound on my P5N32-E SLI Plus motherboard.
My question is this : using this type of connection, would I improve the quality of sound by buying a sound card? I am only concerned with the...
I have a friend who has a Compaq computer with on-board video. The PSU is a meager 250 watts. It's running a sempron, 2 dvd roms and one hard drive. What is the best video card (pci-e) he could run with such a paltry power supply? He says he doesn't intend on using the computer very long and he...
I bought that some motherboard last week. I have the same memory that you do. I had a horrible experience with the board. I got BSOD in Windows XP and frequent crashes. I also couldn't overclcock a lick with the board. I just chalked it up as a bad board but maybe it just didn't like the Patriot...
I made sure that the Watchdog was disabled, EIST was disabled and C1E was disabled. I couldn't even reach 325fsb.
I'm taking this thing back tomorrow and getting a more conventional motherboard. Perhaps a P5B Deluxe.
EDIT:
I think I may have gotten a bad board. I've gotten a BSOD and I've...
I recently sold my Gigabyte DS3 motherboard to try something new. I bought an Intel Bad Axe 2.
On my DS3, I ran my E6600 at 3.2 GHz on 1.3 volts. That's a 356 fsb.
I can't even get the Bad Axe to boot at 300fsb. I have the latest BIOS installed.
Is there something I'm missing with this...
I don't want an internal floppy drive. I'm using a very cramped Antec Nine Hundred case. I left out the internal floppy drive because it's just so cramped inside.
Does a USB floppy drive assume drive letter A: and act just like a regular floppy drive or is it more like an external hard drive? I'm asking because I recently decided to leave the floppy drive out of my case and of course I'm regretting it already as there is a new BIOS posted on the evga site...
I had to call the rebate center. The woman I spoke to tried to tell me the rebate offer expired one day (how convenient) before I bought my xbox 360. I made my purchase on Novemver 16 so I know that was a load of crap. I had to ask to speak with the woman's superior and then argue with her for a...
If anyone owns one of these, can you give us a report on the amount of noise it produces?
I bought one of the 74GB drives when they were on sale and I returned it the next day because it sounded like a rattlesnake under my desk.
I just checked the status of my rebate online and it said this:
"Error(s): Purchase was made outside of the qualifying period"
Let's see, I went to the store and bought it and I sent in the rebate paper that was TAPED TO THE BOX. How the hell can they do this?? Anyone else getting the shaft...
Thanks for the advice. I'm probably going to go to Best Buy and pick up one of the WD 250 GB drives with the 16mb buffer ($99) and hope it's as quiet as it's big brother.
I am looking to replace my 80GB Hitachi boot drive. Last week I upgraded my data drive to a WD 500 GB drive and I love it. It's barely audible at all. The drawback is, I've started noticing how loud and obnoxious my Hitachi is in comparison. I'm not looking for anything with a super large...
I'm considering upgrading my Gigabyte DS3 but I'm really not sure what to get.
I'm not an extreme overclocker. I prefer to only overclock to the point where cooling and noise levels aren't compromised. I'm currently running my E6600 @ 3.2 GHz and my idle temps are at 42-44C (TAT) with a Zalman...
