    Wii will be $249

I think the more interesting number is 250,000 yen Game systems rarely sell for more in the US than in Japan But if you convert 250,000 yen to american dollars using the 120 day high and low exhange rates you get a range of 208-225 american dollars maybe Nintendo will snag the...

20" Widescreen LCDs-am I the only one who doesn't understand the point of them?

As someone who wears glasses, I can say this. If I want to keep the entire vertical dimension of a screen framed by my glasses, I can sit alot closer to a 20.1" WS than a 20" 4:3. This allows me to make things (such as cells/fonts in excel) smaller on my screen relatively. Thus, I can make...

    1905fp & 2005fpw backlight comparison

Two things #1. Different panel types from different companies were used in those Dell monitors. The 1905 is a MVA/PVA type which is characterized by a very dark black. The 2005 uses an IPS panel. These panels do not produce the deepest blacks. #2. A very tricky thing is ensuring that...

    LCD Buyer's Guide

You may want to consider the Viewsonic VX724 if you care about fast response time the most. In the US, its cheaper than the VP730. As to the VP171b and the VP730b, I think it may have been a QA/yield issue or may just be to be consistent with the change from VP191b to VP930b which was an...

    LCD Buyer's Guide

TN panels in general lack 3 things: #1. Viewing Angle (Although it is certainly sufficent for 1-2 people viewing) #2. Black Level is "high" (won't really notice if you play in a well lighted room) #3. Color Depth, 6-bit as opposed to 8-bit. This one is tricky because it really depends on...

Best LCD *strictly* for design 19"+

It seems like accurate color and large contrast are more important that fast response. Dell produces some large cheap monitors that fit that need (but they are not the greatest for colors without a calibrator) If the best color and consistent contrast are the goals, EIZO makes the best for...

    Dual Core Laptop - WidowPC

Eh, I was pretty sure that Voodoo and Sager had a Dual Core notebook awhile ago... Not sure what why anyone could justify to themselves why to get such a monster... Edit: I agree with fbrdphreak. For the price of that Widow, you could buy two similar SFF systems with 2 fairly decent...

Anyone try the ViewSonic VA1912wb yet?

I image it is hardly noticable But certainly going from calibrated 8-bit use 6-12 hours a day to uncalibrated 6-bit is almost a pathelogical situation. I do notice the difference, and I usually can't correct it in 5 minutes or so...(maybe if I calibrated and played with the monitor...)

What do you guys think of the 2005fp?

Rest at ease All LCDs have slight backlight bleeding Older 2005 had some very bad batches. I believe the newer revisions are better (or people just don't complain as much) The 2005 is a wonderful monitor with very few peers. A pretty good choice.

Anyone try the ViewSonic VA1912wb yet?

Your right The Dell will ghost slightly more than the Viewsonic Also, the Dell 2005 is a unit that supposedly has ALOT of backlight bleed cases The main issue is that the Dell is significantly more expensive and will require more graphics card power to run...but in return you do get a...

Anyone try the ViewSonic VA1912wb yet?

Welll, you could end up with a worse screen A 300 dollar widescreen monitor probably doesn't have the greatest in terms of QA (and thus the lower price) so there is a very real danger that you might get a worse screen. I would check for dead pixels (Display White, Green, Blue, Red, Black...

Anyone try the ViewSonic VA1912wb yet?

It sounds like you have a particularly bad case of Backlight bleeding. This just means certain areas of the screen do not completely block out the backlight of the monitor. (Backlight is on full whenever the monitor is on) This varies from monitor to monitor although a few monitors (usually...

#1. Yes the Gateway uses Overdrive or whatever they are going to call it. (Incidently Doma, this Gateway would get my choice right now as the best "all" around for the price. 24" without HDCP (the Dell 2405) is probably a better bargin but for Computer gaming/use 24" is almost too big. The...

    What is backlight bleeding

Backlight bleeding is another personal sensitivity issue much like 6-bit/8-bit color, ghosting, etc. Some people are very sensitive and others barely notice. However certain habits can make backlight bleeding a real issue If you play dark games in a dark room, backlight bleeding can be...

Anyone try the ViewSonic VA1912wb yet?

Color Banding happens when you have a full screen image of a very subtle color gradient a "classic" example would be an x-ray image or the XP welcome screen 6-bit panels will produce more signficant color bands (or areas with sharp changes in color) compared to 8-bit 6 bit<8 bit<10...

Does a circle look like an oval on a 19" LCD?

I think what Kristopher was saying is that IF you have a 4:3 LCD, then displaying another AR on it won't work. I've never really seen a 4:3 19" either... Pretty much we can all agree, the Display will display a Circle if it is feed a circle in the same AR IE, the Graphic Card...

    Viewsonic LCD vx724 dot pitch?

Simple LCDs always have the same number of pixels as thier maximum resolution Dot pitch is not a feature that you can compare across 17" LCDs since all 5:4 aspect 17" LCDs have the same dot pitch with the same maximum resolution, so most manufactures don't bother to list it.

Samsung 244t vs Sony SDM-P234 vs Dell 2405fpw

#1. Resposne times are all half-truths! 2ms is be "best" the monitor will produce. A 2ms monitor might actually have a higher average response time than a a 8ms monitor. But here's another juncture to point out. TVs display a complete frame with a lag of 32ms, and a half frame ever...
