    13 y/o nails Freebird!

Not to interrupt, and these are adults, but http://youtube.com/watch?v=tLxc_wsoPzs&mode=related&search=, while perhaps a different style, is in my opinion a far better expression of virtuosity than what was previously posted. And, as a side note, both guitarists in said clip were virtuosos at an...

    Home Theater Speakers

I'm sorry. I should have elaborated. One buys in waves, yes, but of the same type, ie: You might buy the B&W DM602s. Later, with more funds available, you buy a pair of DM604s, larger, more expensive floorstanders and move the DM602s to the rear as surrounds. Same applies to all the others...

    Home Theater Speakers

I'd recommend starting with 2.0 or 2.1 with higher quality components. As you improve your system, you move your original fronts to surrounds, and buy a center channel. good 2.1 > decent 5.1. Recommendations include; NHT ST4 (these have an integrated sub in each tower, very attractive...

What Speakers Do You Guys Use?

Eh... I've sacrificed any sort of computer upgrades in favor of my audio needs. Strictly stereo though: Thiel CS 2 (beautiful old speakers from 1989, weigh about 65 lbs apiece, dynaudio and peerless drivers, gotten for a tiny percentage of the original list) B&W ASW650 sub (nice, closed...

What's the best chocolate you've ever had

Varlhona. They have an 82% that's rather good, and a 72% with candied orange peel and grand marnier infusion that's also rather good as well. EDIT Names: Orange one : Manjara Dark: Abinao Excellent stuff, though rather pricey

    Should I upgrade my speakers?

If you are willing to pay the difference, a reciever/bookshelves system would outperform any set of computer speakers(or HTIB, for that matter) I'd recommend the AV123.com merchandise (the x-series). It will cost you perhaps 1000$ all told with reciever, but it's performance will be so far...

    New speaker recommendations

I personally recommend just using optical digital out to a reciever you might buy, and then speakers. Focus on that aspect, and it's more flexible, and effective long term. Finally, there is no computer speaker in the world to rival good bookshelves or towers.

    AV123 Speaker Sale

On the subject of speaker decay, I recently (finally) purchased a 22 yr old pair of Thiel floorstanders (amazing deal), without any damage. If speakers are well maintained, without foam surrounds, they should last forever driven at medium volumes ~Paul

Need speakers for my ipod and laptop for $200~300

Klipsch iFi. It's got excellent sound, fairly good bass reproduction, and it's by far the best deal. Even if you paid 300$ for it, it would be an excellent deal. The only constraint is the lack of portability.

I have $300 to spend on speakers for my gaming rig

    1) If you are doing 'Music Only" then the HK3480 is almost certainly your best bet for a reciever. You can get it new for 250$ on amazon, or used for perhaps 150-200$. It's got power to burn, and great sound for the price. Your other option would be to find a higher end reciever used, which can...

I have $300 to spend on speakers for my gaming rig

If you are going stereo, at that budget, the HK is probably your best bet, considering the power ratings (even if they are exaggerated a bit, 100 watts X2 is suitable for nearly everything at that pricerange except the magnepan MMG) If you are spending 700$, your options do open up...

Question for all you audiophiles out there...

Bose is indeed being very clever. However, a major complaint, price, marketing and teh like aside, is merely the quality of the components. Mirage sells the Omnisat, which looks a bit like an acoustimass module, same small design (though it is somewhat larger and 50$ more expensive) however...

I have $300 to spend on speakers for my gaming rig

At this price point, they will sound better with cd quality, but it's not a tremendous difference (at this level of component quality), and iTunes AAC will still sound much much much better. Think your Senns, except more clarity and bigger soundstage, You won't get the bass extension unless you...

$500 off Klipsch RSW-10 Refrence Subwoofer checkout price $599!

This has already been stated, but I'd like to reiterate, the HSU is far superior. Night and day difference. REL and Velodyne and potentially that Martin Logan (forgot the name, the 3x 8in woofers in the triangular array) are really the only things that would match up well against Hsu at a...

I have $300 to spend on speakers for my gaming rig

THe promedias would be considerably less reliable, with fewer features and debatable aesthetics (I like them, but know many others who don't). However, the sound quality will be much better for music, and movies (less so for games) and the bass will be much cleaner and tighter. They don't have...

I am SO confused about headphones...

You can get a DT880 for 150$ off B&H Photo. Great deal, if you can get a half-decent amp to power it. I'd personally go with the DT880 over Senn 595 or even K601.

Worth getting X-Fi for Sennheiser HD595s?

I know this doesn't answer the original question, but instead of the Senns, get the Beyerdynamic DT880 from B&H Photo for 150$. The list was 350$ a couple years ago on these, and they are far superior to the HD595 in almost everyway. The downside is: power-sucker.

best speakers for computer and Xbox 360

Z-5550 probably, for the purposes you describe. However, it would be appropriate to consider klipsch 5. 1 ultra promedia as well. Both would fufill the function you want quite handily. Klipsch is far superior for music, but lacks digital inputs, and cannot match the sheer 'boom' value of the...

    2.1 PC Speaker setup

I'd recommend buying klipsch as well. You can get their GMX 2.1 A for 70$ on their website, refurbed. Best sound quality you can get at the pricepoint. However, you must be careful, as there are a number of potential issues with the all of the klipsch. I've heard about unrealiable amps that are...

    Need advice on new speakers

Klipsch Ultra Promedia 5.1 is greatly superior to the logitech, provided your interests are in music rather than gaming. They don't have the range of inputs or the 'shiny' factor, but their sound is superior. If you are considering HTIB Onkyo or entry level Harman Kardon is the approriate deal

Logitech THX Z-5300e 5.1 Speakers better than Klipsch 4.1?

Well.... Klipsch will have cleaner, tighter bass, much more noticable midrange, cleaner highs, more detailed sound over all, along with better quality at lower volumes. Aside from that, the logitech wins.

    Best soundcard/speaker combo?

The two most musical sounding computer speaker sets I know of are the Altec Lansing FX6021 and the Klipsch Promedia 2.1, or possibly the Klipsch iFi. Logitech would not be wise. Boomy bass + weak mids. Bose would be..... unfortunate.

Best 2.1 or 5.1 speaker setup!

I'm actually using the Z-5500 as my TV surround set. It's fine for my minimal use, but they aren't really designed for that purpose, and again, the midrange is horrible. Fine for movies and games, but really not good if you want to listen to much acoustic music, especially jazz, and classical...

Best 2.1 or 5.1 speaker setup!

If you don't mind a large set of cans, get Sennheiser HD-555 or HD-595. If you want speakers, check out either Klipsch Promedia 2.1, Swann 2.0, or the flagship Altec Lansing 2.1 (the model number escapes me at the moment), or concievably a pair of bookshelf speakers if you have an available...

    Best 2.1 Speakers?

I use the Altec Lansing Fx6021. The bass is weaker and less defined than the Klipch promedia, but the highs and mids are much crisper and more well defined.

    Dell 3007WFP

If the dell and the apple have identical specs (no information on this at the moment), then I would still expect the Apple to cost more. You pay for construction and asthetics. They will perform about at the same level, but the Apple will be more attractive (ie, plastic vs. aluminium, etc.)

Need headphone purchase suggestion! Ordered a Creative XtremeMusic card.

Fair enough. Revison necessary. First off, the HD555 really don't need an amp. I've used mine both with an without amp. They sound great without, powered from a computer or iPod, but they sound even better with a dedicated amp. Also, it does, certainly depend on your taste. The HD555 is a...

Need headphone purchase suggestion! Ordered a Creative XtremeMusic card.

Enormous differences between 30$ and 150$. I had a pair of 25$ headphones for about a year, before I got 110$ Sennheiser HD555. The difference is immense in terms of definition, clarity, balance, precision, and clean bass. I recommend the sennheiser HD555. Best thing under 150$.

Trying to Break a Computer :UPDATE:

Not to pile on top of this already festering topic, but yet, in doing so, I have to say, that really is pathetic. Work your butt off, earn a computer. If you actually work towards a dedicated goal (not the two times you mowed Mrs. Dinky's Lawn, or birthday money, etc.), presenting your plans...

    First-Time Custom Build Help.

For headphones around 100$, Sennheiser HD-555 is the way to go. I've seen them selling between 90$-120$ (I got mine for 105$). They sound phenomenal for the price, and have strong but not overdone bass, warm, but precise mids. and decently crisp highs. They sound better, in my opinion, than...

I've heard a lot of good things in the earbud section with obviously the shure e2s, which have always been stellar performers, but also with Etymotic Er-6i (or Er-4, one of the two), which is another 90-150$ earbud set. Need a mic, non-headset... suggestions?

I'm not sure about compatability, but I've owned that mic. It's decent, a little fragile, but has okay sound, especially for the pricetag of 25$. However, if you want something good that's not headset, usb based, you can pay a fair bit. The only issue is you start getting into audio mics so much...

Best 2.1 Set, possibly replacing 5.1

I got the logitech Z-5500 about 6 months ago, and I've really enjoyed using them. Pretty decent sound, except a somewhat lacking midrange, and killer connectivity options plus pretty good aesthetics. However, my father is looking to set up a home theatre setup, and not wishing to invest in...

    Best speakers for the performance?

I got the logitechs after a similar set of questioning. The klipschs do have a tighter bass, and better mids. However, the z-5500 costs quite a bit less depending where you get it (40-120$), has killer connectivity optioins, very crisp sound, and a much better control device (that does look a...

    Mixing and Matching Speakers?

Eh, I listen to music. Mostly Jazz. It's sounding pretty interesting, because the bostons have much better midrange, so piano is a lot better especially, but they aren't as crisp, and the percussion is lacking a bit. Mixing and Matching Speakers?

It's interesting. I hooked up one (couldn't find speaker wire for the other) and teh sound quality on Oscar Peterson Trio's Fly Me To The Moon is much, much better. Can I use the logitech wire on the boston speakers? It appears to be much thinner wire... Thanks for the replies, Molinjir
