Mobo advice for a new i7 system?

Depending on your needs either Gigabyte board is good. You might want to consider the UD4P as well UD3R - Solid board, only 4 RAM slots (runs triple channel), fewer bells and whistles but the best bang for the buck motherboard out right now for i7. UD4P - Newer integrated audio, 8x PCI...

So... do all these people buying these super-high-end cards really have 30" monitors?

There are other reasons to upgrade than sheer speed (UVD2, HDMI audio etc). As for gaming, on my 24" at 1920x1200 I don't see any speed difference between my old 8800GT and the 4870 in "older" games (HL, HL2) however, being able to crank everything to the highest settings with full AA in DX10...

    Motherboard suggestion

For what it's worth and IMHO you made the right choice, If you want to build next year based on Intel "piece partsing" an Intel system now would be counterproductive. When you get ready to build next year prices will be lower on most of the parts and you already have a great bang for the buck...

    NCQ possible with ICH9 & Vista ?

AHCI on the ICH9 should enable both hot plug and NCQ if the disk supports it. Note that you have to install Vista with the controller set to AHCI. I have successfuly updated from IDE mode to AHCI on a BX2 with an existing XP Pro SP2 install but haven't tried to do it on Vista32 or 64. NCQ (and...

Which top-end MB would you reccomend?

In my research these are the things I've found that helped me decide on the Gigabyte X38-DQ6. Some will agree and disagree on these points but that is the state of affairs in the industry right now :) 1. With the rate of incremental new releases in the last year and the forseeable future...

Need help with possible PSU issue

I once forgot to plug in the PCI-E power plug on my 8800GTS and got the same thing. I think the "squeal" is the vid card (or onr of them) telling you it doesn't have enough juice. You could try ensuring the plugs are all seated well. Since the vid cards and MB run fine without all the other...

Trying to decide on good gaming rig. What about this one?

    1. Case - Don't go cheap on the case. While something from Antec( P180/Sonata/900), Thermaltake or Lian Li is more expensive they are usually cooler and quieter (I can't hear my P180B from 1.5 ft away on my desk. 2. OK on the mobo but theres also the DS3. 3. Must agree with DaftPunkit on...

Which Vista version best for a gamer?

While me loves me Vista I have to agree that, for primarily gaming, stick with XP. The driver situation is pretty hit or miss right now (even though I'm sure that the likes of Nvidia, AMD/ATI, and Creative Labs had access to Vista code WAY befor I got a hold of Beta 2). While Vista runs...

    Vista Ultimate upgrade worth 195?

If you have any other PCs you want to upgrade to Vista then MS has a "buy retail Ultimate and get up to 2 Home Premium upgrades for $50.00 each" deal going on. Either way it's a good price and I've had few problems with Vista (I had MANY more when XP first came out). I do wish I'd gotten it for...

    Nero backup XP to Vista

You could just use thw "Windows Easy Transfer" off of the Vista DVD when you get ready to upgrade... Also keep in mind that if you are doing a clean install that you will have to actually re-install most of your programs. I would get the Vista Upgrade Advisor from MS and run it against your...

    VirtualBox security

Need a new motherboard for e6300

While the 965 boards overclock the 6300/6400 better I would recommend this (since you are also looking at 975 boards): Bad Axe 2 The price is right and it's pretty overclockable, and the best is it's stable as the proverbial rock... (running my E6600 @ 380FSB at stock voltage on...

    Pulled the Trigger -- BadAxe2 E6600 eVGA 8800GTX

While you didn't ask for opinions, figured I'd give mine anyway <gr> - Cases are subjective for the most part - You'll love the BX2 - You'll love the eVGA GTX - You'll love the HX620 - You'll love the E6600 - Never used G.Skill but hear good and bad things about it just like any other...

    Bad Axe 2 beeping

That is probably not your mobo but the GTX beeping (my GTS "squeals"). Make sure that both of the PCI-E power connectors are firmliy plugged into the GTX and I would also plug in the 4 pin AUX power connector on the mobo as well as the mobo aux power connector.

Best motherboard for high(ish)-end Crossfire system?

Quite a few people have gotten 3.0G on stock cooling (although I wouldn't run it long at the load temps I saw on stock) I got a Thermaltake Big Typhoon which is right up there with the Tuniq and you should be fine with any 975x board. The BX2 overclocks quite easily actually. While it...

    Motherboards Dying Left and Right?!?!

With all the add-ins the Shuttle PSU (which is great for a Shuttle <I have 3>) won't power that rig. Try removing everything but Video, RAM, and HDD and, using the Antec, see if it powers up. These three failures may seem to be related but the power surge may have just been the final nail for...

    Top recommended motherboards?

My only issues are: - the 3rd PCI-e x16 slot (another PCI slot would've been nice) - The jumper for BIOS recovery could've been better implemented (like a switch or something :) ) The things I like: - Well crap, just about everything else... I 100% agree with Moosey, it's rock solid...

Motherboards, pros and cons: 975 vs 965 vs 680?

Currently running my E6600 @ 3g (340 FSB) with 0 problems on the Bad Axe 2. The 975, while it seems old, currently seems very stable and is slightly faster overall than NV6xxi, RD600, and 965. If you were going with a 6300/6400 then 965 would get you better overclocking but with the 6600 a...

bad axe 2 driver cd setup using vista

I'm sure that they will be, considering the push behind Vista (and by the link you posted). Motherboards, pros and cons: 975 vs 965 vs 680?

I just used those as a reference from one vendor that had both boards, not as a recommendation :). I was assuming the OP would do his own shopping, the point was that, pretty much anywhere you go, the BX2 will be cheaper than the ASUS board.

Motherboards, pros and cons: 975 vs 965 vs 680?

I would also recommend an Intel Bad Axe 2 for a 975x chipset board. Price wise and stability wise it can't be beat. While the Asus does have a bit better of a bundle (e.g. built in Wi-Fi and an integrated E-SATA) Intels board is much cheaper even taking into account buying an E-SATA PCI slot...

A good solid motherboard for Core Duo 2

Well I guess it's too late to throw in another BadAxe2 vote. It's the most stable build I've ever done and been doing it since the 386sx days. The Vista problems seem primarily to be related to Vista 64 bit and Quad core processors. There are also many overclocking with quad core issues but I...

I didn't read every post so I'm sure much of this is a repeat: What I'm playing now - - HL2 and Lost coast (but the source games are previously mentioned), got bored with these quite a while ago but the 8800 breathes into them new life. - Oblivion (w/o texture pack, gonna' go get it...)...

ATI card to hold me over

When building my new rig I was looking at a) Two X1950 pro's in Xfire (figured I'd get one and get another in a month or so but that never works out...) b) One X1950XTX (ATI's fastest and I was an ATI loyalist for a long time) c) The 8800GTS (due to the improved IQ, Architecture, and...

    Upgrade to a gaming PC?

Ok time to relegate the Dell to a second machine status or sell it :) I am going to assume that you aren't an overclocker and that you are used to a quiet system... This list is a "mix n match" so you can shop around to save a few bucks. The ones I would stick with are the; Intel BX2 -...

    8800???

Honest opinion, I would wait awhile. While an 8800 will probably be nicer in the short term if you are happy with how the system plays your current games then wait awhile till prices go down and more DX10 compatible parts are released. When Vista/DX10 does hit however you will probably want...

    More Stable Motherboard......BadAxe2 or DS3 ??

I belive if you run in the second slot you will run at x8 vs x16 but with one card I may be wrong. I don't know however if you could tell the difference in anything other than benchmarks. The existing card may fit however, my 8800GTS fits fine but has no "backside" sinks...

    More Stable Motherboard......BadAxe2 or DS3 ??

I got my retail version from TigerDirect for $199.00. It's the BOX vs. the BLK version and has the 3 year warranty I'm not overclocking my E6600 and am using the stock cooler. @ idle I run about 46-48c and under Orthos load I average 63-64C. I'll stick with the stock for now as I'm...

Your opinion on the best mobod for under $200

I like my Bad Axe 2 ($199 at Tigerdirect). It has 8 SATA ports (one is an E-SATA but you have to buy a PCI slot bracket separately) plenty of USB ports, firewire, 8 channel HD audio and best of all a 3 year warranty. I don't overclock but the board has the capability and stability to be a...

Which Motherboard Is The Right One For Me?

Not to throw any more confusion your way but: 1) If you don't really plan to overclock (even if you might in the future) 2) You want proven performance and stability out of the box 3) SLI isn't a main concern (e.g. will use an 8800GTX now but may want higher resolutions for games later)...

    Which one ?

Beat me to it :) If you are considering the P5-DW then tha Bad Axe2 is also worth consideration. The box version with 3 year warranty is $199.00 at some places and, while not as feature rich as the P5W-DH Deluxe WiFi + the kitchen sink, it's well priced and stable as a rock. At least worth...

Best 975 mobo for e6600 and gaming?

Best 975 mobo for e6600 and gaming?

They're $199 USD for the boxed version at TigerDirect (I am usually an "Egg" head but I saved a chunk on this) I got my GPU and MB together and shipping was fine although the Egg is hard to beat in that area... Luck EDIT - Also my BX2 is stable as the proverbial rock with minor overclocking...
