ASUS leaving he ATI scene would be a shame. Does Gecube only sell in Europe? I have not seen anything from them before.

What type of tuner do I need if I have Verizon FIOS?

I think this is only true in certain cases. The major competitor around here is BrightHouse and I think they only require a STB if you want to get the premium channels or for HD programming. My parents have BrightHouse and last I checked they had several old TVs with no STB that were still...

Verizon FIOS changing IPs when using bittorrent

This is interesting, I may have to do a little more research on that Westell router. Do you have their VOIP or TV service or just ISP? I'm curious if they integrate the components needed for VOIP and updating the STB guide into one router now or if they still use a seperate box.

Verizon FIOS changing IPs when using bittorrent

I use my own router because from everything I've read the router Verizon provides isnt all that great. Work was kind enough to donate a nice 8 port netgear prosafe router and I have a feeling its a much better router than anything Verizon would give me. It has a lot more granular options for...

Verizon FIOS changing IPs when using bittorrent

Just wanted to post an update in this thread. I took cmetz suggestion and tried a different router, an old netgear prosafe I snagged from work, and that does appear to have solved the changing IP problem. As for the PPPoE issue... the Verizon tech, after playing dumb at first, said that they...

What type of tuner do I need if I have Verizon FIOS?

taltamir, Like winterpool said, basically good luck finding a tuner that supports cablecard. I'm not 100% sure that Verizon offers cablecards either. I also don't want to pay the equipment rental fee for the cable cards. Yes it is cheaper than having several STBs but half the reason I want...

What type of tuner do I need if I have Verizon FIOS?

Hmm, not very many FIOS TV users on here ATM I guess. Well I found some answers here but its starting to look like the only real way to accomplish what I want is with a cablecard system which is more trouble and expense than I think I'm willing to endure. Well if Verizon can't get my...

What type of tuner do I need if I have Verizon FIOS?

I currently have Verizon FIOS for my Cable TV service and for the most part I like it. The big problem I have with it is that their Multi-Room DVR just plain sucks. So, I figured I'd resurrect my old MCE2005 DVR computer and put it to good use! The question is, what type of tuner do I need to...

Where to get AMD chipset driver other than ASUS website

I need the 780G chipset drivers. The file on ASUS' website is called amd_chipset_v501010008_xpvista.zip and I have not been able to locate it anywhere else. I've googled 780G chipset drivers as well as the exact file name with no luck.

Where to get AMD chipset driver other than ASUS website

I bought an ASUS M3A78-EM used and don't have the driver CD. I need to download the AMD chipset drivers for WinXP but ASUS' own website must be hosting the file on a 56k modem or some crap because I've tried for the past two days to get the 400+ MB file and can never get more than 16Kbps on the...

Verizon FIOS changing IPs when using bittorrent

Great info cmetz! I will try plugging in a different router and see if I get a usable IP through DHCP. I've actually been wanting to replace the dlink router supplied by Verizon but I don't know the userid and password that is stored in it for PPPoE. I've been avoiding dealing with their...

Verizon FIOS changing IPs when using bittorrent

I don't use P2P very often but I think this is a pretty underhanded tactic on Verizon's part. I'll pay the same price for a slightly slower cable connection if I can feel secure that they are not going to screw with me when I decide to grab a Fedora ISO.

Verizon FIOS changing IPs when using bittorrent

I hadn't thought about that but I honestly don't think so. I didn't have much else going at the time besides Pidgen. I also have a dynamic domain name through dyndns and checked my logs on the updater client. The IP hopping started about 2-3min after I started the bittorrent traffic and then...

Verizon FIOS changing IPs when using bittorrent

live in Tampa, FL and have Verizon's FIOS service. Recently I have noticed that whenever I initiate a bittorrent transfer my WAN IP address starts changing about every 15min until I stop the transfer. Has anybody else noticed this on FIOS?

    Geforce 9600 GSO

    Geforce 9600 GSO

So I recently became aware of the new Geforce 9600 GSO from Nvidia. The card appears to be based on the G92 core and sports a rather unusual 192-bit memory bus. I'm a big "value" graphics shopper and I'm curious if anybody here has had any hands-on time with one of these yet. I'm looking to...

    Trouble with windows time service

I'm not sure if anyone here can help me with this but I'm stumped at the moment. I'm having trouble getting my windows 2000 and XP pro clients to update their clocks since the time change happened last weekend. The system time on the primary and backup domain controllers are correct and have...

    WinTV-PVR-350 and MCE2005

Wow that's pretty surprising. I've got about a million copies of that cyberlink DVD software lying around, they give that thing away with just about everything it seems. I guess I'll just use one of those.

    WinTV-PVR-350 and MCE2005

Yeah the video output on the 350 is fairly limited in what you can use it for. Even DVD playback is too choppy in MythTV. I really have no intention of using the video output on the 350 since the computer its in is essentially going to be a backend for several media extenders, I just don't...

    WinTV-PVR-350 and MCE2005

The hyperthreading issue I got covered since it's running on an Athlon XP :-). My main concern is driver support. Hauppage's website says that the 250/350 are supported by MCE but then the link takes you to a page that only lists the 250 as being supported. I know that the 350 does hardware...

I have a PVR350 that I'm using in a dedicated MythTV box that a friend of mine help me setup. It works great but I'm no Linux guru and it's a pain to fix/change anything with it. With the new media center extender functions coming with the xbox360 I'm considering switching over to MCE2005 but...

The system specs are nothing great either. Celeron 2.4ghz 256mb ram (he will be updating this to 512mb) and a 80gb harddrive. I've played Wow on a slightly faster AthlonXP 2500+ with a radeon 9000 pro and it was very playable at 1024x768. I just can't seem to find any benchmarks of the...

WoW on a PCI Geforce FX5700LE?

A friend of mine made the rather poor decision to purchase an emachine computer a few years back and has now decided that he wants to play World of Warcraft on it. Trouble is that like most cheapo emachine computers it does not have an AGP slot. So... he asks me to find him a good video card to...

New Laptop can't get DHCP to work but static IP works

What kind of a network are we talking about here? Is this your own personal home network or one at work or school? The reason I ask is that I live on campus at my university and they require us to register our NIC address with them. The DHCP server recognizes a valid NIC address and hands out...

Two 256 or one 512 stick ddr?

From a stability standpoint I would think that one stick of 512 would reduce the chances of memory problems over haveing 2 sticks of 256 that are different brands and possibly different timings.

Gainward Geforce Ti4200 causing display problems

Help with girl's computer o/c friendly micro ATX mobo?

I'm not so sure overclocking your processor in a micro ATX case is such a good idea anyway. The small space of a mATX case with the added heat of an overclocked processor could cause a lot of overheating problems. I think you are going to have to choose between a small non-oc PC or a larger...

Out of the loop, what are good components for a computer?

I agree with foofoo. The Asus A7N266-VM AA is a better board than the K7S5A. It's got better quality integrated sound and the onboard Geforce 2MX graphics saves the expense of buying a seperate video card. DDR memory is also the better route to go. SDRAM is on its way out which is why its a...

Upgrade Options...still holding at 1 GHz and PC133...

I don't know that a small bump in speed from 1ghz to 1.4ghz will really make much of a difference. You would be better off getting a new mobo with ddr memory and buying an athlon XP. You can usually find the 1800+ for the same price or less than an old 1.4 tbird too.
