Whine much, Sid? Are you comparing the PPD output of a five year old machine against a system with a motherboard and CPU that were released in 2007? My Q6600-based systems can turn-around an SMP WU in less than twelve hours. That's a lot of information for Stanford in a...

I have three machines in my basement with the Abit ip35 Pro and Q6600s running the F@H SMP client. All three machines overclocked very easily (didn't have to raise the CPU voltage much - if at all). That motherboard and the Q6600 CPU are a good match. I ran the Q6600s in...
Other useful info that you could include (but not limited to):
- OS
- Amount of RAM in the machine
- Clock speed of the E6600 (is it 'stock'? is it overclocked to the point where the CPU warps space-time?)
- Which project(s) you are currently crunching
- Is this machine dedicated to...
The Chicago Tribune ran a neat little article on distributing computing projects. I laughed when they interviewed one guy who runs the Folding client on seven computers. Oooooo!!! The reporter should have interviewed MadMurph or Markfw. :)...
Don't put the 1.5 Megapoint bell away just yet. We'll be ringing that bell for MadMurph within a week. He'll pass me within two weeks (barring an ice storm, "help" from Markfw, etc.)
MadMurph's PPD is simply amazing. I think he's using that Ukranian Smp Affinity program that I read...

Insidious, there is something about the Fah SMP Affinity Changer program that makes my "spidey sense" tingle. The whole "leet speak" by rilian does not increase my confidence in that program. The icing on the cake is the "testimonials" by Folders who have installed the...

You can read the response from "rilian" who appears to be the mouthpiece for the person who actually wrote the code. At no time did he...

This is a rough estimate: The Q6600 that is currently crunching the 3060 WU can turn-around a WU from project 3043 (1440 points) in under 12 hours. This is running Fedora 7 and one copy of the F@H SMP client for Linux. Watching FahMon today, it looked like the 3060 WU...
Has anyone else put a hook into these whopper work units for project 3060? I just noticed that one of my Q6600s is working on a WU that is worth 2539 points. Wow!!! I'll watch the elapsed time on that baby to see if this WU takes any longer than the 1440 point WUs that seem to be the main...

I remember that "back in the day", COM ports could share IRQ 4 and IRQ 3. The standard config for COM 1 through 4 was:
Com1 Addr: 3F8 IRQ: 4
Com2 Addr: 2F8 IRQ: 3
Com3 Addr: 3E8 IRQ: 4
Com4 Addr: 2E8 IRQ: 3
Yes, I regurgitated that from memory. :)...
MM, congrats on moving into 13th place. I think you and I will be meeting soon. Around the time that we both hit 1.75 million points, you'll pass me. I'm not going to make it easy for you to catch me so you better keep the pedal mashed to the floor. :D

Hi All:
I noticed that everyone is talking about building more systems. I have a boatload of parts in my spare bedroom. If you are building a system and need something like a 120mm fan or the original heatsink/cooling fan that came with the Intel C2D and Intel quadcore CPUs, drop me a line...
It's all good here in Wisconsin. We (I am near Milwaukee) got a lot of frozen rain and a couple of inches of snow but it wasn't that bad. All of the schools in the area closed for the day because the weather forecasters had warned us a big storm was on the way.
Our friends to the south in...

The TeAm crushed-out 225,000 points in 24 hours and we don't get even one  from GLeeM? I think that's a pretty decent day, especially with MFW running on only 11 cylinders in his V12. :D
Here's to everyone on the TeAm who was part of the 225,000 point day...
Hurricane Andrew, I would like to thank you for the warm welcome during the passing of the torch. I intend to take the office of Number Seven very seriously. Once I take office, I will begin aggressive programs to fight crime in the Folding Community, to "put a chicken in every pot; a Q6600 on...
Mark, Dec 4, 2007 ended three hours ago.
IIRC, the "rolling 24 hours" that GLeeM uses is the 8:00pm CST update (the one that currently says 207,912 pts).
MarkFW:
Interesting. My Q6600s are running at a slightly lower clock speed than your Quads but my machine are returning SMP WUs in less than 12 hours. The WUs issued to my Fedora Quads are always 1440 points. There seems to be some sort of disparity in the PPD between the Linux SMP client...
MarkFW:
I noticed that nearly all of your WUs have been the 1760 pt variety. Are all of of your Folders running the Windows SMP client? How long (in hhmm) does it take for one of your machines to download, crunch and return one of the 1760-pt WUs?
Thanks,
-Scott
I think the TeAm can do better than 170,000 PPD. We just need MFW and MadsMurph to crack open the throttle (or the checkbook) a little more. ;)
Maybe Santa will leave some Q6600s under the tree for all the good girls and boys on the TeAm. :D

I was digging through some of my computer books this morning and found a box that says "Mark Williams Co. C Compiler Version 1.0 for Rainbow 100".
Any connection to you? Or just a coincidence (similar names)?

Looks like it was a pretty productive day. :)
How soon do you think we (the entire team) will have a 200,000 point day?
Congrats to everyone on the team who contributed to the 169,000-point day!

In my experience, the Linux SMP client runs very smoothly and it seems to generate more PPD than the Windows SMP client even though my Linux boxes are not running at 100% busy.
Monitoring Linux Folding boxes with FahMon is pretty easy. Takes about five minutes to install and config Samba and...
I have three identical Q6600 systems. The two that are running at this moment are at 3126 PPD and 3344 PPD (according to FahMon 2.3.1). The one with the higher PPD is at 3.2GHz (400 x 8). I have a part coming from new Newegg tomorrow so my third Q6600 will be back in production before...
Nice work there, MFW
I'll catch you someday. I had to shut down one of my Q6600 workhorses last week to scavenge some parts in an emergency. She'll be back online as soon as a box from Newegg appears on my doorstep. Actually, my parents paid for my Folding machines. As soon as I...
I had suspected that. My three dedicated Folding machines (all Q6600 G0) are running Fedora 7. The one thing that bugs me is that those machines always get 1440 point WUs. They never get the 1760 point WUs. I suspect that the 1760 point WUs are handed to the Windows dual-core and quad-core...
Mooseracing, I had encountered the affinity-changing before but I am reluctant to run it on my home machines. I wish that someone "well known" would vouch for the guy who wrote the program and/or that the author would release the source code to the affinity changer. For now, there is something...
I am assuming that you are running Windows on this system. Have you experimented with setting the affinity of the FahCore_a1 processes to see if that will help your PPD?
Follow-up question of my own:
Are you guys lapping the base of the CPU cooler? All of the Rosewill coolers that I used didn't have mirror-smooth finishes on the bottom so I spent some time lapping the CPU cooler before installing it.
Is anyone else lapping their CPU cooler on systems that...
I have no idea. The Q6600 CPU alone cost $300 so I'm not worried about possibly saving $10 or $20 on the device that cools it. I have used the Rosewill coolers on all three of my Q6600 systems and the coolers work well. Like I mentioned earlier, I can turn the fan speed down to keep noise at...
This bad boy from Rosewill does a pretty good job on my Q6600s. It comes with a speed control so you can dial the RPMs down to keep the machine quiet.
