good ram will not make very much of a difference on a c2d system. spend your money elsewhere. Good ram is good because it will allot for more flexible overclocking... in turn resulting in better gaming/performance. Check out legionhardware.com for a review showing many games and benchmarks with...
yea I have a copy of raid reconstructor I am going to try using. I think what I am going to do for now is build this mobo with my ram and cpu, pick up a cheap power supply and hd then sell it in an old case on craigslist. Someone will bite. I did my reading and im gonna get a dfi infinity...
Yea its not a loose cable, both drives are being detected and reported as healthy by s.m.a.r.t. The drive is showing up fine, its just that the computer thinks the drive does not belong to the array. The drives are not making strange noises, as far as diagnostics go its showing healthy as a...
so I had a 965p-ds3 rev 2.0 that died on me, I RMA'ed it to newegg and received back a v1 :-( I installed it anyways.
My main windows partition is 2x36gb wd raptor 10krpm drives on the jmicron controller. It was setup on the first board and could be read fine on the second one.
Since it...
sata,
Ditch the IDE like a bad habit. Newer hard drives with sata 3 gig have the capacity for larger burst transfers, NCQ, etc. As long as its onboard, sharing the pci bus 133mb/s with every other pci card and putting a hard drive controller is a choker on speed. Buying into IDE is a bad idea...
so I just landed my first job as what seems to pretty much be a system administrator (they call it help desk but its pretty much overall I.T. handyman) position. Ive done alot of my own tech for years and I've been working as a level 2 at a helpdesk job for the past 3 years. Built many pc's not...
kamyk: weird, maybe that was my mind thinking it was a straight 400
stopsign: cold boot is an issue just about anyone with a big overclock runs into with this board its all over this thread almost every page, common issue - no true fix right now.
maddog: dunno about your ds3p, I dont have...
kamyk: Did you change your sig? I thought it said 400w.
yea ds3 rev1&2 both have solid capacitors. Ive owned a rev1 & 2 and posted earlier the apparent differences that I could see.
well thats just it, you cant just throw away a perfectly good storage drive, and the majority of people still have 1-2 optical ide drives, and a few ide hard drives in their systems. Ive still got 4 ide drives in my system on a sil0680a pci raid controller.
just noticed your sig kamyk, your...
Yes hans bitter is one thing and understandably so in your situation, however society doesn't give you an excuse to act out just as a child with a temper tantrum shouldn't be allowed to just do so. Nobody questions your intelligence however dis respectfulness does not get you out of that wheel...
everyone overclocks for their own reasons, id say alot of it is bragging rights against the rich and because were cheap to be frank lol. Some people do it just to do it, so they can say i made this go to x or y and its x% above, but alot of us just want that high end top of the line performance...
little: as far as weird optical issues update to the latest jmicron (read: latest... not latest by gigabyte. use the link i posted a few back, gigabyte is a few revisions behind.) driver, I had some before and it patched it up for me, maybe the same for you.
redhawk: ive seen failures on the...
ok cool thepiston.
adam: I agree, although their website documentation is hardly a bragging right. You get different pages and answers when you click through different ways. The bios descriptions dont really show very much of what was changed and updated even though you know there was alot...
thepiston: can you go into more detail with why you couldnt boot? Are you saying that you couldnt boot because of a bios related problem or just from overclocking?
yea that was a selling point to me I was thinking that, it pissed me off that his mobo no longer posted when the dual boot bios thing is supposed to protect against that. makes me wonder if I can rely on it with mine if a new bios doesnt flash well...
Is there some sort of a safeguard...
yea f7 comes with the rev 2's, or atleast thats what mine came loaded with.
Maybe the quad core "optimized" is more in the bios than in the hardware? the rev 1 isnt quad core "optimized" and maybe thats because it comes with a pre f7 bios. There are other changes on the board but maybe thats...
redhawk: look at my posts regarding rev 2 boards, thats about as conclusive as it gets. I can take a look at it if theres anything in specifics that your looking for, but ive been running off a rev 2 from newegg. Its very clear to tell the differences between a rev 2 and a rev 1 board, 2 has a...
the gigabyte is running on f7. The sil0680 and the sil0680a controllers are both on different bios versions, I'll post up later tonight when I get them which specific version each has.
ram issues with this board are more problems with stupid people than bad compatibility. They have enacted new anti-stupid recently however :-)
higher voltage ram needs to be booted with a single stick, THEN change the bios, THEN add the second stick.
update on the sil0680/sil0680a based raid...
yea I had the G, definitely bad choice! was only able to push a teeny bit out of the fsb and the temps soared for the northbridge. Check my other posts for details...
Anyone else having trouble with silicon images 0680 based pci raid cards? Im having a real bitch of a time with mine :-(...
lol that graphics card is blazing to me, I just upgraded to that from a 9800SE agp solution. I can play quake 4 @ 1280 and it varies from 40-60fps, no problem with me. I dont play as much games on my pc as I used to and this card over clocks like a bastard too. managed to get the ram from 1ghz...
k took a little lok again, its confirmed. You can actually view pictures of the motherboard on the website and compare, they do look different and it does look accurate to what I have in comparison

ricochet,
Looking at the picture the northbridge and southbridge heatsinks are exactly the same. Mine still only has one pci-x16. Same layout for the slots. Everything else looks like the same lame color scheme and layout. I see 1 audio connector under that pci, im pretty sure I have 2. Might...
guys ill tell you one thing ive learned from gigabytes site its that its horribly inaccurate.
anyone read my post?
I have a ds3 rev 2.0 and it DOES NOT HAVE FIREWIRE. It clearly states rev 2.0 on the corner of the board, and I stated all the changes I was able to spot in my post up top. Im...
guys I have a ds3 rev 2.0
The only board I have for comparison is the one i got first by accident (doh!) which was the 965G 1.0. Comparing the 2 is where I get this so if it was already that way on the ds3 sorry im goin from what I have.
It was shipped to my by newegg and it didnt cost me...
so looks like I am yet another who fell into the trap on new egg. My thought was hell the extra few bux for integrated video is great as a backup. Sure enough its come in handy as my pci-x xfx 6600gt card doesnt seem to be working. I just ordered an rma on newegg though and I gotta ship back...
