Do i need a complete overhall?

Your cpu oc seems rather mild have you pushed to vCore voltage up to the max (1.4v for this mobo if I remember rightly) I would expect 2.6Ghz+ for your 165 - or is your CPU cooling the limitation? I would say the 9600GT appears to be the best value at the moment or the 8800GT for a few more...

    750Gb HDD Best Sector Size

I have just purchased a 750Gb Samsung F1 and will be using it in my PVR i.e. Average file size of 1Gb+ What sector size would you recommend I format it (Under XP)? I assume 64KB Sectors would be the best?

    Inaccessible Boot Device Windows 2000

Thanks for the reply. I think I will try that next... I think what is happening in my machine is that his drive is a C: drive for booting while mine is F: and it is preferring to boot from his! If the above way doesn't work I will try it as Slave on the same cable as my Boot drive.

    Inaccessible Boot Device Windows 2000

My friend's computer is failing to boot - It's getting passed the BIOS, showing the Window's bar, the dropping to a BSOD with the Inaccessible Boot Device message. I have transfered it into my PC, and tried to boot (from my own drive {An ATA IDE-133 drive}) having set the problematic drive to...

Upgrading 939 CPU, how to do it?

Okay 1) Probably no need to backup up but better safe than sorry! 2) Load all necessary drivers... 3) Go into device manager; expand the Computer tab to show ACPI Multiprocessor PC; Right click ACPI...Tab and click properties; click driver tab; click update driver and click next when the...

Upgrading 939 CPU, how to do it?

No need to reinstall Windows - You need to go into Device Manager and update the driver for the Computer from ACPI Uniprocessor PC to ACPI Multiprocessor PC - reboot and voila! Two processor with appear in Task Manager! If you would like me to post the exact steps let me know; but it is as...

    939 to AM2 worth it?

If you feel it is worth it, why not spend some money and get a better heatsink i.e. an XP90 and see if you can get somewhere nearer a 2.6-2.7Ghz overclock (or maybe 2.8Ghz ;) )

Wireless (802.11g) ADSL router with 4 port gigabit switch

Hi All I'm looking for the above to connect my two PCs and two laptops. When I Google I keep getting everything except the ADSL part. I believe I read somewhere about one design for Internet/Network gaming. Any help would be appreciated.

    Connecting Printer to ethernet port?

You have two choices: 1) Set up one of your computers as a Printer Server by enabling "File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Windows" in networking (I would be surprised if this isn't already enabled). Which I have found to work very well - but you have to keep the computer with the...

    Random shutdowns

What OS are you using and is it a clean/new install? What USB devices have you got plugged in? Does the problem go away if you remove them? Try going back to basics disconnect the things that you don't need say: HDDs and Soundcard i.e. try and reduced the load on the PSU - if the problem...

    s939 X2 3800 and Opteron 165 overclockability

Recommend heatsinks: Thermalright Ultra 120, Tuniq Tower 120 - Two of the best Thermalright XP90 - no complaints from this;) Though doesn't touch the above two. I'll let somebody recommend more current stuff.

    s939 X2 3800 and Opteron 165 overclockability

18 months and counting...very stable, still very happy with the performance - Don't need a C2D yet. I have just picked up a DFI board and Ultra 120 so I will try an squeeze a little more out of it! (SI120 HS a big disappointment - worse results than the XP90)

How big is a land based Rainbow?

Thanks nice link and I get your point. I was just curious if anybody had measured just a regular (rain formed) rainbow. I was also interest in how triples and quadruples are formed (I've only ever seen a triple myself on a very bright day) would I be right in assuming that it would be...

    RAID 5 and Overclocking

I'm preparing to build my next system and am hoping to consolidate my storage between my other systems (2x120Gb, 180Gb, 200Gb & 300Gb HDDs.) Using my 300Gb Maxtor SATA as the basis I'm going to buy 2 more and build a RAID 5 array. My questions are: 1) Because we can lock the PCI-E bus...

Problems with new Core 2 Build... random reboots

I have gone down the same path myself: calculated all the wattage of all the devices and convinced myself that there was enough power; had random lock-ups; memory errors; rebooting when the graphics card tries to run DirectX games, etc. Replaced the 250W PSU with a 400W PSU and all the faults...

Why did we go to Slot 1 design processors?

Sorry to say this but the Turbo but under-clocked the processor, usually down to 8Mhz, this was to make older ISA expansion cards work - well before PCI was invented! All the early processor ran with a multiplier of 1x i.e. FSB 33Mhz/Processor 33Mhz - early ISA cards could only support a 8Mhz...

ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 - Socket 939 with PCI-E and real AGP and Socket AM2 upgrade path

I ran my 9800pro for 2 months with no problem (upgraded to a 7800gt - also ignore my signature I will update it soon). I would suggest it is your power supply having experienced the same problem a number of times of the last 15 years - I'm currently using a 480Watt PSU with my X2 3800+ clocked...

How long should I charge my 2500maH AA batteries for the first time?

problem with DMA mode on my HDD

I had the same problem once - some how in the BIOS it was detected a CHS I changed it to LBA and the problem went away. Also check the IDE cable is square or pushed in properly on the back of the HDD - I have had read/boot errors when a cable has partially unplugged itself, in the past.

    FSB Limited to 240mhz....

I don't think you have told us the voltage you are using for the CPU? I would try 1.55v for testing to find your limit and then backing off (hopefully below 1.5v). As my signature I'm using BIOS 1.9 which seems very good (I've had it up to a HTT of 343Mhz).

Moving XP-90 from from one CPU to another

Arctic recommend a non-fibrous cloth to wipe the AS5 off (i.e. not paper towels!) Also I recommend running the CPU under load before you try to take the heatsink off - this ensures the AS5 is malleable before you try to pull the heatsink off.

    FSB Limited to 240mhz....

You say you have taken the memory out of the equation but have you tried looser timings than 2,2,2,5 like say 2.5,3,3,8 perhaps? Another thing I found was setting the AGP to 67 was unstable in certain circumstances and is unnessary (i.e. I ran 280htt with both my Winnie and X2 no problems)...

    HDD Noise

I have two IBM HDDs in my (supposedly) quiet PC. Having just rebuilt this PC due to the previous motherboard failing I put the case back together and noticed a resonating noise coming from the case. I.e. I though there was an twin-prop aeroplane flying nearby. I have two IBM 7200rpm HDDs...

Update: 12 hrs dual Prime 95 small fft with lower ram timings..was 13hrs dual Prime 95 stable....now I am not WTF!!!!

I honestly can't answer that question...and I think it would be very hard to catagorically say it is the CPU causing the problem - We take for granted that such complex systems can be diagnosed easily when we are dealing with billions of components! I did have a similiar problem: Winnie 3000+...

Update: 12 hrs dual Prime 95 small fft with lower ram timings..was 13hrs dual Prime 95 stable....now I am not WTF!!!!

Try the ram at really loose timings say 2.5, 4, 4, 10 with a really low divider say 133 this should take the ram out of the equation and test again. Up the voltages another .025v to the CPU. What are your CPU temps like?

    3800X2 W/ XP-90

Your readings are about right. My experiences are that the temperatures jump sharply when you apply more voltages to your X2 - When I have gone from 2.8Ghz 1.4v to 2.85Ghz 1.5v my temps increased by 7oC! I have found that when you are getting close to the X2s limits the idle temperatures also...

    Going for 3Ghz...from XP90 with AS3 & 55CFM to SI-120 with AS5 and 125CFM - X2 3800+

My highest prime is at 2.85Ghz which failed at 1.47v after 6 to 8 hours... Prime @ 2852Mhz but completed 6 hours and 8 hours respectively. When I upped the voltage to 1.55v my load temperature rose to 60oC after priming for a few minutes which I think is pushing it. Therefore I'm...
