Is it possible for a VIA/S3G Unichrome II IGP to not support WS resolutions at ALL?

I had to update the bios of an asus (can't remember the model) to get WS resolutions on the integrated S3 Unichrome. Latest drivers should be at viaarena

Anyone used/tried this 19" Flat CRT? MITSUBISHI DIAMOND VIEW DV19NF

I used a Diamond Plus 92, which seems to have the same tube (.25-.27mm), but inferior refresh rates ~92 KHz IIRC Color was great and convergence and focus were perfect (maybe the owner was lucky). Years later, I tried two new models (very briefly this time, but I could try some...

Does OLED allow for better refesh rates than LCDs?

OLED response times are around 16ms right now. SED response times are below 1ms. From behardware:

    Just ordered my 2007WFP!

The 2007WFP is a widescreen monitor: 1680x1050 The 2007FP is 1600x1200 Performance should be a bit better with the widescreen.

Can a monitor like the 2005FPW play 1080p videos?

Yeah, you can always resize the image.
  8. J

    wow dell 2405

You are using more pixels to show the same things or area of the game (for example, your gun), so the lines are more accurate.

Can a monitor like the 2005FPW play 1080p videos?

Not just 30 pixels... HD 1080p is 1920x1080 The 2005FPW is 1680x1050, so if you center the image, you'll loose 15 pixels on the top and botom and 120 on each side of the screen. You are roughly losing 15% of the image, or 309600 pixels. Edit: typo, sorry

What is a "Normal" Temp for a Athlon X2?

Accuracy and computer sensors don't mix. You can only compare processor temps with the same mobo. But they are ok to get a general idea, and see how much the temps raise under load. (a 10ºC raise could be more or less than that though)

What is a "Normal" Temp for a Athlon X2?

3800+ X2 Default speed & voltage. 2.0GHz, 1.35V Idle: 28ºC Dual prime: 41ºC I'm using a cheap Arctic Cooling Sliencer 64 (I'm changing it soon because it is noisy). It runs at 2300rpm, but those temps were measured at 1750 rpm (lowered with speedfan).

    The new Raptor is out!

5-8 minutes? Most likely too much crap installed. (Yeah, that's the User problem). As suggested before, check if you are running those drives in PIO mode. Go to each disk properties, check DMA (if disabled), uncheck NCQ (if enabled. I don't think your drives support NCQ, so it should be...

Which hard drive do you think would perform better?

You'd better look for some real benchmarks, but seek time is far more important than cache size.

This a good gaming monitor? $178. Samsung 997mb?

The 997DF/MB (same tube, same specs) is a great gaming monitor. To get higher frequencies you need a higher horizontal refresh rate. For example, the Mitsubishi 930SB (if you can find one) is a 110 KHz monitor.

POLL ADDED: AEG and NVIDIA's "Viral"'outreach programme' targets Forums

Funny, a few days ago I wondered how many video cards did he, who can't be named, sell for nvidia.
  18. J

I'm leaving the forums, here's why.

At least you could quote his next sentence, where he says the heat is negligible, before calling him dumbass (talk about misinforming... :disgust: ) Anyway, he will be back soon.

    Quietest Athlon X2 heatsink?

I'm using the regular silencer right now (the same as the TC, but the fan spins always at the same speed), and it is not silent. Not annoying, but not silent. I'll change it soon.

Why AGP? AGP is dead. If you are buying a new system you should get a PCI-E mobo and graphics card.

Will Thermaltake480 psu run 7800GT SLI?

A SLI-certified single rail PSU needs 34A on the 12v rail (I can't remember where I read it). Many people are running their SLI rigs fine with less than that, but you'll definitely need a new psu.

    X700 PCIe acceptable for gaming?

Ramdacs are used to drive monitors, so you can use two monitors with a dual-ramdac video card. It has nothing to do with the number of pipelines.

What's the HARDEST part when assembling a computer for you guys?

Assembly can be a bit tricky sometimes, but the hardest part is turning it on for the first time.

I would buy two and SLI them! (unless a 7800GT was more powerful)

Anti-stat strap killed my Enermax...? Definitely not!

:o Wow, thank you! We have yet to see if it works in the computer, but it looks good. Yeah, fiddling inside things with big capacitors can be dangerous (specially CRTs!), but I think an Enermax is well worth the risk, and it was already discharged. You can never have enough!
  29. J

Do you use an Anti-Static Strap while working on computers?

Never. I always leave the psu plugged.
  30. J

Anti-stat strap killed my Enermax...? Definitely not!

Go ahead, it should be pretty easy to locate. It is much easier to replace if it is in a socket instead of soldered. The rating should be printed on the fuse, or on the pcb below it. Dont' try the repaired psu inmediately on your computer, just in case something else is blown. Attach a...

    AMD X2 4000+

Here I couldn't find it in the AMD site (or google), and the page says "Manchester" instead of "Toledo", so I guess there is an error somewhere. It is not available, btw. Alternate is something like Newegg for europeans, but the X2 4000 doesn't appear in the german page, where everything...

Dual 7800GT's or single 7800GTX which should I buy?

Probably not, specially if you are happy with just one (and you will be happy with a single GTX). When you are going to buy that 2nd GTX, a single next gen card will probably be faster. It has just happened, I know two guys with 6800s that bought a 7800 instead of another 6800.

Best way to burn xvid movies to DVD?

Just buy an DivX/Xvid capable DVD player. They are very cheap now and you won't loose quality (well, you've already lost quality with the conversion to xvid, as explained before). This way you can burn several movies onto a disc. You may want to reencode your original discs to a size of 1.1...

What Technology is going to come out on top?

I spend too much time in front of a screen, so I prefer OLEDs. SEDs and CRTs emit radiation. OLEDs and TFTs emit light. Both SED and OLED look promising, though.

    1905FP Ok for gaming?

I've been using the one with the samsung panel (20ms, the same one that uses the samsung SM 193P). It's one of the best monitors I've seen for static images, (good colors, nice viewing angles). Unfortunately it is not good for gaming and watching videos.
