    Weird MS Word 07 bug

This one is weird. In MS Word if I'm in the home pane, typing text into the document is normal, letters appear as I type them. When I switch to the review pane, for some reason everything slows down and there's a really obnoxious lag between what I type and what's on the screen (like a full word...

    Free note-taking software?

Not free, but Microsoft OneNote is worth every penny. I've used it for my law classes all year long. The "home and student' edition is $59 on newegg, but you might be able to get an even better educational discount through your school.

    recovering corrupted iTunes downloads?

My friend's music library is apparently largely corrupted. Purchased music won't play in iTunes, mp3's won't play in any player. She of course did not back up. If the files are still physically on her computer but corrupted, will Apple be at all accomodating in providing a new download? I...

    Poor iTunes performance

Just got a new laptop, the majority of my apps are installed at this point and everything runs great except iTunes. It's REALLY slow, and it's impossible to even try using the "cover flow" view without it seriously lagging (and CPU usage spikes to 30 or so in the task manager) This isn't a...

    Watching the Superbowl in HD

I asked my friend to look into it with his neighbors and see if they could pick up the channel without the HD box. If not, what's the easiest/cheapest way to get the OTA signal? We're pretty close to the broadcast location.

    Watching the Superbowl in HD

I have a Panasonic plasma in my apartment hooked up to an HD cable box with HDMI and all that. Unfortunately, my apartment isn't ideal for hosting the game so I want to bring the set over to my friend's house for the day. Am I correct in understanding that the QAM tuner in the set will let me...

Picked up a 50" Panasonic Plasma last week

Is 1080p > 720p the only thing you write in these threads? There is absolutely no way a Westinghouse LCD (1080 or otherwise) is keeping up with a non-defective properly calibrated Panasonic plasma. It sounds like you've either got the LCD in torch mode and it's fooling your eyes into...

    Computer won't boot

I shrunk the partition containing XP, reformatted the remaining space and installed another OS. At this point the system hangs after the post and neither OS will load. First, how do I fix this to at least get back into XP, and then what should I do to get some kind of bootloader menu to select...

MacBook & MacBook Pro updated November 1st

My mistake on that part, I thought the penryn chips were due out in early November, but it looks like I was a bit premature on that statement... when are they expected to make it into notebooks?

MacBook & MacBook Pro updated November 1st

This is incorrect. Santa Rosa is the name of an overall mobile platform, not a processor. The processor is still part of the Core 2 family. The Santa Rosa refresh includes an update to the Penryn-family 45nm processors and a switch to the X3100 graphics chipset. The smaller 45nm architecture of...

    Toshiba HD-DVD Player $98.87 at Wal*Mart

What are the chances of getting a Circuit City to price match Walmart's ad price on this? And if anyone knows 100% that BB is doing this also, please post... the 7 free hd-dvd deal through them would be sweet.

    Plasma image burn in

Thanks for the responses guys, I just wanted to make sure I didn't do anything dumb with my gorgeous new tv. I've calibrated the contrast and I've mostly been watching full screen HD on it so far, so it sounds like the burn in potential is reduced. I still won't have anything static for more...

Noob to overclocking w/o jumpers LOL

Quick and dirty response to get you started: Set the FSB to 333, the multiplier at 9 (the G0 should be able to handle this at stock voltages) Push your RAM voltage up to whatever G.Skill recommended (probably +.4v) and set the memory timings Set your memory divider at 1:1 (might be labled...

    Plasma image burn in

I recently bought a Panasonic plasma. I know supposedly one of the cons with plasmas is the vulnerability to image burn in.... does anyone know roughly how long you can leave a still image up before you're risking damage? I'm contemplating hooking up a mac mini as a htpc and I want to know if...

Are any of these head units any good?

My advice is to go into circuit city, best buy, etc. and check out the units mounted on their displays and check out the screens in person and how the controls work for navigating them. I've seen quite a few decks that are absolutely awful at navigating file structures, If that was a major...

    HP pavillion mobo problem

My mom has an HP pavillion laptop that seems to be on the fritz. I'm not there to check it out myself, but she says she hits the power and the computer issues some beeps and she can hear the fan and possibly the hard drive, but nothing happens. (Not even the bios logo screen) This sounds like...

I am having trouble capturing video from a SONY D8 Camera

You answered your post in your first sentence. You're trying to use a Hi 8 Camcorder to read a Digital 8 tape. The Hi8 camcorder works in analog, the tape was recorded digitally in your friend's camera. Borrow a D8 camera again and capture over firewire.

Can anyone comment on JBL Stadium series or Klipsch SF-1 speakers?

I've got a setup that uses the JBL stadium series. "Voice" 2-way center channel "Stadium" 3-way floorstanding in the front "Monitor" 2-way bookshelves as the rear surrounds JBL 12" sub from the same line. Everything is matched in the series, so obviously they all transition seamlessly...

Buying a new tv, need some advice

I bought a Panasonic 42PX75U. The other sets I was looking at were an LG and a Samsung, both also 42" - the Panasonic was noticeably better. It could have been a calibration issue, but the guy I was talking to seemed to know his stuff and said they had all been calibrated when I asked if I could...

Buying a new tv, need some advice

After looking at a bunch of 42" plasmas in person I did exactly that. Wow. The other panels in that price range weren't even close - the colors weren't accurate and they all looked over saturated. I threw in a couple of dvd's last night and I'm very pleased... now I just need to get an HD FiOS...

Buying a new tv, need some advice

Thinking of buying a new 42" or so tv, would like to stay under 1200. My only other HDTV is a 51" Sony rear projection set that does 1080i (although the highest signal my cable company sends is 720p I believe) Having never watched 1080p before, I don't know if it's worth the money to step up...

Lazy Vista vs. XP Pro question

    Q6600 overclocking questions

I'm using the Zalman CNPS9500 in my sig. Anandtech ranked it a slight notch below the top tier air cooling towers, but it's practically silent so I can live with that trade off. The problem with knowing how "good" my temperatures actually are at the moment is that I'm not sure what the...

    Q6600 overclocking questions

I'm using a P35 DS3 as well... 1.45 bios, 1.138 idle in windows.... which seems odd. I'm at 3.3 stable right now. Average across all 4 cores seems to be about 48c idle. Is a 5 degree spread between the coolest and hottest core a sign that I should reapply AS5 / reseat the hsf?

So I've been running my Q6600 with a low overclock (3.0) for the first few weeks and now I'd like to see how high I can get it at reasonable temps and volts. -The cpu voltage in the bios is currently 1.325 and CPU-Z shows the actual voltage around 1.216. I'm assuming that the actual voltage...

New HDTV, what is my best options for all my old dvds?

Bars on the side? Are your DVD's the fullscreen version? The xbox upscaling dvd's to HD won't fix that. You can change the settings on your tv to eliminate the side bars and stretch 4:3 images out to 16:9, but then you're looking at a distorted picture.

Theory to build a socket 775 to socket 775 adapter

If your biggest problem is watching HD-DVD/BluRay, why wouldn't you just upgrade the video card to one of the newer offerings with hardware decoding for HD? An 8600GTS or ATI equivilent would take the load almost entirely off the CPU http://anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3047

    Odd SPDIF problem

    Odd SPDIF problem

Yoyo: The reciever is a Kenwood VR-707. Not a ton of bells and whistles, but it's only driving the 2.1 setup with my computer, not my home theater. The front speakers are set as "small" and there's no option to manually set the crossover frequency - I've tried it with the "subwoofer remix"...

Yoyo: The reciever's bass management is set up exactly the same as it was for my previous sound card's digital out, which is why I suspect the onboard audio is doing something fishy. The other odd thing I noticed last night is that when the reciever is getting the signal from the onboard...

Agreed. I'm not sure why someone would be excited to pay extra for a "guarunteed" G0 that won't even ship for another week or two when other people are already getting them in hand at similar prices... For those concerned about steppings, NCIX is shipping nothing but G0's for around 300 (shipped)

I ordered from NCIX before the weekend and according to my reciept I have a G0 that should arrive this afternoon or tommorow. The reviews on the site seem to indicate that they're only shipping G0's. Came to $310 shipped.
