Any blocks out there for the HD 4870?

Wait, so the GPU block I already have will fit, as long as I kept the ATI adapter?

Any blocks out there for the HD 4870?

It's a brand new card so this might be a dumb question, but is anyone making blocks yet for the 4870, or are there any current blocks that have adapter plates for them? Does this card perhaps have the same bolt pattern and configuration as a preexisting card that already has a water block made...

    Is water cooling dead?

Then how did you come to the 105* assertion? You seem(ed) confident Realtemp was giving me incorrect numbers, I'm just wondering what kind of ninja spies you're employing to get that information from Intel.

    Is water cooling dead?

What else can I do but go by the program that most everyone claims is the most accurate for my processor? Maybe I should stick a thermometer up the Q6600's ass to really see the truth. You said very clearly there that the Tjmax of the Q6600 is 105. Please tell me where you found that...

    Is water cooling dead?

If you can find me any piece of documentation that clearly states the TJmax of any Intel Core2 x processor, I'll give you a high five. I'm sure Aig can explain it a whole lot better than I can, but Realtemp seems to currently be the best-regarded (ie, most accurate) program for measuring...

    Is water cooling dead?

I'd just like to say, I'm a fairly new convert to water, only been running my setup for 2-3 months now, but I'll never go back to air cooling for my own personal gaming/OCing rig. There's just no comparison. After setting everything up, I've had no problems whatsoever, and after setting aside...

Zalman has got to be the most...

Fry's Electronics, which I would guess is one of the major brick and mortar electronics retailers in the US (even though they're only in a handful of states), only sells Zalman, Coolermaster and Thermaltake heatsink products, with most of the shelf space and attention being put on the Zalman...

Living in satellite internet hell, have question about DSL signal extension

The only major problem I have with this ISP is this...and I've actually never heard of something this bad: They actually have something that monitors your activity, and strictly do not allow any kind of peer 2 peer file sharing whatsoever. If they find out you're doing it via whatever program...

    Dtek Fuzion....version 2.

First off, I'd just like to say everyone was right, I have the modding bug more than ever. Even after my watercooling project was long finished and running great as is, I still search Al Gore's interwebs endlessly for bigger and better parts. I recently came across something new on Petra's...

Living in satellite internet hell, have question about DSL signal extension

I just got some great news today. There's a local ISP here, Central Valley Broadband (www.calwisp.com). They're trying to get a large wireless signal-blanket over several of the nearby towns, and the tower for my town just went live two days ago. So now, I have access to 3Mbps wireless...

Living in satellite internet hell, have question about DSL signal extension

I'm sorry, did you say 300Mbps? Any relevant links for something like that? Not for local ISPs, as I've got pretty much every phone number and website known to man for all the local ISPs here, but as far as the technology, I've never even heard of something with that kind of throughput at 60...

Living in satellite internet hell, have question about DSL signal extension

I'm 4 miles from Cool. It's not visible from my actual residence because the immediate area is rather hilly, which makes wireless nearly out of the question because of no LoS. cmetz, is it alright if I PM you for a bit more info on the T1 possibility?

Living in satellite internet hell, have question about DSL signal extension

Compman: Yes, I asked a similar question a few months ago, before I actually moved to this house, before getting satellite internet, etc. And if I may, that thread was hijacked by an ego-tripping jackass and the whole thing went nowhere after that, so I figured I'd try again. Thanks for the...

Living in satellite internet hell, have question about DSL signal extension

Sorry, Carmichael was my previous address city, I've moved since then. I'm now in Pilot Hill, which is about 30 miles from Sacramento. No cell service, so EV-DO is out of the question.

Living in satellite internet hell, have question about DSL signal extension

Well, my family and I moved a few months ago into a rural area and satellite internet was the only readily available internet option. Everyone here is already fed up with it, with everything from the laughable overstated throughput claims "1.5mbit" means "1.5mbit at 3am, 600kb from 8am to 10pm"...

    Considering going water cooling

Aig I still don't understand how it's even possible to spring a leak on something like this. If you're not senile and don't have Alzheimer's, it's impossible to set it up in such a way as to get leaks. Step 1: Get real barbs, not the plastic shit that comes with every part you buy, res's...

    Considering going water cooling

About the price: Don't underestimate the 'little things' and the unforeseen purchases you'll need to make later down the line. What type of fans will you need, how many, what kind of mounting hardware for everything, what kind of tubing, how many loops, money spent on tools if you need them...

    e8400 running hotter than q6600?

I had this problem too, I bought the E8400 just for shits, installed it, and temps were much higher at idle than the Q6600. This is on water, btw. Idle temps for the Q66 were around 28*C after overclocking to ~3.4ghz. Idle temps for a stock E8400, system identical otherwise, was 35*C both...

For OCing, which board: Maximus Formula or GB DS3R?

I've got the strap set on Auto right now, because it's something I really don't understand how/why it works. I presume that if I go 401 or over FSB, the strap will bump up to 400mhz? Thanks for your help btw

For OCing, which board: Maximus Formula or GB DS3R?

I've been running the Asus Maximus Formula board for a few months now, and while I can't put my finger on it, there's just something about it I don't like. Maybe it's the overly complicated BIOS, or the fact that it with my Q6600 doesn't like 400fsb. As of right now, I've got the Q6600 in...

    Muhahahaha...I've done it.

Temperature problems: solved Swapped out the S-Flex's for the Zalman F3s. Not nearly as loud as I thought they'd be even at full power. Four of them are on the radiators, both sets are doing intake duty rather than the in one end and out the other config I had prior. Reseated the Dtek...

    How the hell...need help

Ok I opted to go with the Zalman F3s. I didn't want to do a bay-slot fan controller for all the fans, so I went with individual fan-mates for the four. Should be a bit easier to manage the wiring than if I had a bay controller. I also bit the bullet and got Silverstone's CFP51, which converts...

Aig, yes I think you're right about the bleeding. When I put my computer in the car, laid down on its side, there were massive air pockets that rose to the cpu block from either the reservoir or the radiator, I don't remember. I don't get it, how do you evacuate all the air from the lines...

Woodbutcher, you're slightly mistaken about my WC setup. The CPU and GPU are on independent but identical loops. MCP655 > MCR220 > CPU (dtek fuzion) > MicroRes is loop 1. MCP655 > MCR220 > GPU (MCW60) > MicroRes is loop 2. With an accepted 'normal' ambient temp of 68* F (average...

How many people are actually running Q66/700s at or above 3.6ghz?

Ya know, I'm finally glad someone came out and said this, because it's so true. By reading some of the threads over on XS and here, you'd think everyone with a g0 Q6600 was running 3.6-4.0ghz. There's just no way that's the norm, and I'd attribute the lack of other, lower clock postings to the...

How many people are actually running Q66/700s at or above 3.6ghz?

I honestly think once I get out of this 70+* apartment, clean up the wiring a bit, and properly apply the TIM I'll see a bit better temps. I am impressed with the load temps so far though, barely breaking into the 50s.

How many people are actually running Q66/700s at or above 3.6ghz?

So are these temps normal or what? Measured in realtemp: 1.325v, Q6600. Idle: ~33*C, Load (prime95 blend): 45-50*C, never above ~52* 3.0ghz, 9 x 333

How many people are actually running Q66/700s at or above 3.6ghz?

Ok, it seems now like all the hullabaloo I made yesterday about high temps were due to the really high ambient temp in my apartment, which has no A/C and faces west, rofl. Today, I've got the Q6600 running at 3.0ghz, 9 x 333, at 1.325v, and it's idling at 32*C Cores 1 & 2, 27*C Cores 2 & 3...

How many people are actually running Q66/700s at or above 3.6ghz?

I've copied this from my "How the hell" thread in Cases and Cooling. I've been getting ~36-40*C idle temps on cores 1 and 2 on water (dual loop setup), and I couldn't figure out why. The case is getting adequate airflow over the cpu, the radiators have (I think) decent airflow through them, etc...

Derwen: Apparently how you apply the thermal paste is especially important when using the intel quad cores. I'm hoping once I reseat the block and apply the paste correctly, it'll account for the 5-10*C over-normal I'm seeing now.

    How the hell...need help

I think I found out where I went wrong and why my temps are so high. I applied the thermal paste incorrectly, using a method that's worked well for me with the video card, but apparently DOESN'T work with the cpu: Spreading AS5 very thin with a razor blade. It's worked phenomenally well with...
