    Zipped viruses

Thanks all, cleared up my question. If I run said file a single time, and it does turn out to be a virus, does that mean I'm screwed? On the other hand, if I run it and it doesn't seem to be a virus (how would I know? AV scan/firewall?), it doesn't matter how many times I run it and the AV...

    Zipped viruses

Say I have a file called file.exe, which I suspect is a virus. If I was to zip it, would it still be able to cause damage and problems, or in a zipped state is it effectively quarantined?

Buying Motherboard from Europe. Any problems to expect?

One question: WHY!? Everything in Europe (UK at least) is about 10 times as expensive as in the US, plus there is less choice!

    Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R or MSI P35 Neo2-FR

Just a quick update. I ordered the MSI, and it didn't work. So, I've sent it back and asked for a refund, so I can order the Gigabyte. EDIT: Well, I'm thinking about it. I could get either, although the MSI would probably be cheaper. However, it does have less PCI/SATA/USB sockets, and...

    OK, thanks Bonzai.

    2GB DDR2 800 PC6400 RAM

Thanks Yellow. :) Maybe I should put it another way... Shut the fuck up, both you. People have different opinions, that's life. Get over it.

    2GB DDR2 800 PC6400 RAM

Max I would go probably would be 3.6GHz, although I have heard all of the ones I've mentioned work well. I'll probably end up getting the Patriot TBH, heard a lot of good stuff about it.

    2GB DDR2 800 PC6400 RAM

That's what I was thinking. ;) I'm getting a 6750. My first one will be 3.2GHz, possibly pushing for higher but it depends how willing I am to take the risk (£115 for a 15 year old is quite a lot ;)).

    2GB DDR2 800 PC6400 RAM

OK, thanks, I think I get it. I still don't see why it's worth getting Crucial over, say, Patriot, unless I was going for max possible performance, every last bit, which I'm not. Also, it won't be on 24/7. Thoughts? I'll add the Crucial is from another store, which has all the other parts...

    2GB DDR2 800 PC6400 RAM

OK, I think I get it now. Although I've heard of the other brands I've mentioned running stably at higher voltages and higher frequencies/lower latencies. As stupid as this sounds...How do you overclock RAM frequencies? EDIT: Just seen two people have voted this thread 0/5 stars. :(

    2GB DDR2 800 PC6400 RAM

Don't worry. :) Let me rephrase my question haha: What makes Micron ICs so good? How are the the best for overclocking?

    2GB DDR2 800 PC6400 RAM

Please, lets stop this bickering/heated discussion. ;) I still don't understand why Ballistix is better than the others.
  14. D

    2GB DDR2 800 PC6400 RAM

If only I understood MyFox or SerpantRoyal's argument! :P Ballistix is now winning 7-1-1-1-3. Which of the middle three do you think would be best, or is it just whatever I feel like? (Admittedly I'm probably going to buy Ballistix). What I don't understand is WHY Ballistix is so good...

Are Micron D9s REALLY that good though?
  17. D

    2GB DDR2 800 PC6400 RAM

Thanks NXIL! The votes are very...conclusive ATM. ;) Crucial has 2, Patriot/GeIL/OCZ/Kingston all have 1 each.

    2GB DDR2 800 PC6400 RAM

OK. What is YMMV? And, stupid as it sounds, how do you change RAM frequency (MHz)?
  19. D

    2GB DDR2 800 PC6400 RAM

I was thinking about the Kingston, but I'm not sure about OCing it. I know it's just like OCing the CPU, just...I don't know really. This is the only Kingston I can get, is it the right stuff?: (£35, same as Patriot/OCZ/GeIL) http://www.aria.co.uk/Products...GB%29+?productId=23295 I just...

    2GB DDR2 800 PC6400 RAM

I need some PC6400 RAM, 2GB, but I can't decide which one. I've had soo many recommendations it's hard to choose. A lot of people say Ballistix, but is it really worth the >£10/$20 over the others? Iyt is Micron D9, which none of the others are (as far as I'm aware)(the Patriot might be...

    Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R or MSI P35 Neo2-FR

I'm UK based so no Newegg. The Abit isn't on Dabs or Aria or Ebuyer either, which is where I was planning on getting the rest of my parts. Looks like the MSI is better though, 5-0.

    Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R or MSI P35 Neo2-FR

Well that's 3-0 to the MSI ATM (my brother also recommends the MSI)! :)

    Gigabyte GA-P35C-DS3R or MSI P35 Neo2-FR

I'm looking to upgrade my PC and have limited it down to these 2 (I think). I've heard mixed comments about both, but can't decide. What are the pros and cons of each? What would you recommend? I'm planning on using them with an E6750 and 2GB RAM (Patriot, GeIL, Crucial, Corsair, not...

Thanks Conjugal. I was planning on getting an E6750 too, so one of those threads was very helpful.

    My overclocking guide

I have read graysky's guide, and countless more (over 10). But I've seen a few "conflicting" parts, so posted up this to see peoples thoughts. Obviously that hasn't worked though... No, I don't want to skip steps. I don't want to randomly shove up the voltage. I want to get it right...

    My overclocking guide

I'm still not 100% sure about the voltages. When should I change them? Currently I'm getting max FSB with stock voltages, them upping the voltages to try and get even higher FSB. Does this sound alright?

    OK, sorry about that. :/

    My overclocking guide

OK, thanks all. I'm not meaning to release this, just a general guide for myself. I know WHY I do it all, so I'm not putting that there. As for motherboard specific...Well, I don't have my new motherboard yet. My current mobo has most of the options though, under one name or another (it's...

    Do these damage the computer?

By the way, I've just done the Error Checking thing on both my HDDs. I don't notice any differences, but then again, I wouldn't would I?

    Do these damage the computer?

Thanks again all. I was just asking because I corrupted my HDD and I wasn't 100% sure how (IIRC I only changed the FSB, possibly the voltages slightly).

    Do these damage the computer?

OK, thanks myo. Apart from overvolting, what overclocking things can cause physical hardware damage or HDD damage?

    My overclocking guide

Hmm...Thanks sutahz. I know this isn't a proper guide, I just wanted something short and to-the-point to print off (without all the other explaining). What exactly is wrong with it though? How could it be improved? When increasing FSB by 20s, should I stop when it doesn't boot, or run...

    Do these damage the computer?

Thanks all, some excellent info here. So, do BSODs damage the motherboard or not? suhtahz says no, fire400 says yes.

    Do these damage the computer?

Haha! Well, I reinstalled Windows and everything worked (and still works) fine. Put simply, what I did was pushed my Sempron 3000 (1.8GHz) up to 2GHz (FSB changing, can't remember if I changed voltage or not). It ran, but it wasn't stable, so I put it down to 1.9GHz and blam, PC wouldn't...
