Hey guys,
I wanna upgrade from my Geforce 8800 GTS. What is the nicest PCI Express card I can get for under $200 right now. I am looking at the Geforce 9800 GTX.
i ended up ordering a new PSU from newegg.com.
PC Power & Cooling S61EPS 610W
everything runs fine now.
oh, forgot to mention, i guess my old PSU was a 500 watt. might have been part of the problem.
it ONLY happens when im running fallout 3, not any other game. the smell is coming directly from the PSU, so i think i am just going to invest in a nicer 600-650W.
ok, so i looked at the BIOS, and got these readings...
CPU: 43C/109F
MC: 35C/95F
Fans: 1950RPM and 1205RPM
Voltage...
Vcore: 1.22
3.3V: 3.28
5V: 5.18
12V: 11.87
When i was in the BIOS I also turned on the fan control module and set it to "performance" mode and set the target...
my computer will randomly shut down and restart after playing fallout 3 for a bit. at first i could play it for hours and be fine, but recently it just started restarting after a couple minutes of play.
i looked inside the case and feel a lot of heat and a burning smell coming from the PSU...
so, my xbox 360 already crapped out once, giving me the red ring of death on the power button. i sent it to M$ and they replaced it free of charge.
now it crashes very quickly on most games but i dont have the red lights. i bought GTA4 a month ago and now i cant play it anymore past the...
hey everyone. i had a sony vaio laptop (VGN-FZ440E) at work and i need more than just a 15" widescreen. is it possible for me to just get a docking station and hook it up to 2 LCD monitors for a dual display, or does work have to buy me a whole separate desktop workstation?
or do they have...
so i disabled my mic in vista. dont ask me why. but now its not in the devices list. it's like it doesnt exist.
similiar to what happened to this guy... http://www.tomshardware.com/fo...36963-44-disabled-back
how do i re-enable/reinstall it? thanks!
yeah, i think vista is great for people with a brand spanking new computer. my computer is a freakin powerhouse and vista runs soooo smooth on it. one big thing i love is how easily networks are configured. i was able to setup sharing with the other computers and my xbox 360 soooo fast. no...
so, like most nerds I have been hesitant to "upgrade" to Vista because of all the negative press surrounding it.
well, i just built a new computer. a q6600 quad cpu, with asus mobo, and geforce 800gts 320...
i couldnt be happier. vista runs smoothly and fast as hell. the ONLY single...
i just installed foobar. i really like it. my only qualm is that the file info and album art doesnt update to the currently playing song, only the one selected in the playlist. it loads SUPER fast though, compared to winamp. almost instantaneous.
so for some reason winamp is crashing all the time on my vista machine. are there any alternatives to winamp, besides WMP, itunes, or the zune software?
so i got this philips tv tuner card installed, but no tv viewing software. beyond tv doesnt really work that great. is there anything else out there for windows?
is vista ultimate the same as vista x64? and will my hardware support 64 bit? im guessing yes.
sorry, havent built a computer in 6 years and just catching up on the new technology.
i got a new asus pk5-e mobo. it has on board 8 point hd audio. do i NEED a sound card if all i do is listen to music and play computer games casually? i'm in no way a hardcore gamer or musician/composer.
nevermind. found this in an article...
"The 24 pin main power connector was added in ATX12V 2.0 to provide extra power needed by PCI Express slots."
so they split it up just in case you're using an older mobo with only 20 pins. i learned something new :)
yeah, i am referring to the 20+4 ATX12v connector. i already plugged the 12V EPS connector into it's slot on the mobo. it was odd though, cuz the port is 4x2 and the plug from the psu is only 2x2. but it works :)
THANKS!
why exactly is the 24 pin connector split into 2 pieces now?
so i built my new comp last night. i have an asus p5k-e and a cooler master 500w psu.
i'm trying to hookup the main power to the mobo (the BIG braided power cable). it has a ~16 slot side hookup, and then a 4 slot wide hookup. it's just one big port on the mobo itself, but 2 plugs coming from...
so i just assembled my new computer last night and i am trying to decide which OS to go with, xp pro or vista ultimate. i was thinking of maybe partioning my hdd into 2 drives and creating a dual installation for both. here's my specs and lemme know what you would do...
mobo: asus p5k-e...
so i am building a new comp. the only thing i am missing is a video card.
i have:
mobo: asus p5k-e wifi/ap
cpu: c2q 2.6ghz q6600
psu: 500w coolermaster
hdd: seagate 320gig sata 3.0
ram: ocz 2x2gig ddr2 800
i don't have the vid card installed yet, but i tried to power it on. i...
sorry man, but i'm gonna listen to the folks with much more posts than you. i will not use vista. vista bites ass and im sticking with xp. i've had an asus motherboard for years and it's never crapped out on me. i love asus. and i've also been running 2 gigs of ram forever. i don't need 4...
ok, switched to the e6750 and added an EVGA 320-P2-N815-AR GeForce 8800GTS 320MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card.
total at $940.
thanks for the help folks. i think i'm good now.
so here's what i've put together on my wishlist on newegg... opinions please...
CASE: COOLER MASTER Centurion 5 CAC-T05-UW Black Aluminum Bezel
MOBO: ASUS P5K-E/WIFI-AP LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX Intel Motherboard
CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E6850 Conroe 3.0GHz LGA 775 Processor
