    Best audio streamer interface?

I stream my FLAC into the PS3 using Foobar2000 uPnP and/or TVersity. I like Foobar because of the way you can easily create a playlist on your PC, and then call it up on the PS3. TVersity for video, Foobar for audio.

    Sell PS3 and buy....?

No contest - keep the PS3. The media streaming capability make it far more valuable than a stand alone BD player. I transfer (i.e. copy onto the PS3 hard drive) video files wirelessly from my PC over to the PS3 (like full seasons of hi-def TV shows), and watch them thru the PS3. Streaming hi...

Cooler Master Hyper 212+ temps seem high

Your temps are fine. My rule of thumb is to overclock until I hit 75 degrees at 100% load with Prime95, HT on.

    30-40$ I7 920 Cooler

I didn't do Linx, but Prime95 full load temps go up into the mid-70 degree range. I think my low voltage is the main reason I can go to 4 GHz, you're probably right that if I had to crank the volts up to 1.3 or higher, my temps would be unacceptable and I would need something better than the...

    ASUS P6X58D vs. P6X58D-E

Yeah, the P6X58D - E is the better deal, and hardly anybody uses that extra fan anyways. And yes, the more expensive board will NOT do SATA 6.0 Gb/s RAID. Go figure.

More questions on the Corsair H50

I think your temps using an H50 versus say a Prolimatech megahalem will be hotter by apx 3 to 5 degrees celsius. A lot depends on how good the airflow is in your case, though.

    30-40$ I7 920 Cooler

I am running 4.0 GHz i7 920 @ 1.21 vcore, with HT 24/7 using the Coolermaster Hyper 212+ in a well ventilated case (ATCS 840). If you are hell bent on going beyond 4.0, I think you will need a better cooler like the noctua or prolimatech megahalem.

    ASRock quality now-a-days? ASRock 870 Extreme3

Statistically, I think you have a higher chance of getting a bad board from Asrock, compared to Asus. I RMA'd an Asrock X58 Extreme last month that just would not POST with 3 sticks of RAM. Replaced it with an Asus P6X58D and everything worked perfectly. I find a good indicator to be the...

    ASRock X58 Extreme + 930 OC Help

I think you have set your target too high. With the H50, you'll be lucky to hit 4.0 and 3.8 may be more realistic. It all depends on your core temperatures (which are to a large extent a function of the added voltage you apply to your CPU). During the torture tests, you don't want to exceed...

My Coolermaster ATCS build. How's my fan setup?

The rationale for disabling the forward top mount 230mm fan (not the one behind the case's removable front panel) is that it is prematurely drawing out cold air before it has had a chance to draw heat off of the CPU heatsink. I don't have any pics, but if you want to see lots of pics from other...

    Question about thermal paste

Arctic Silver 5 is very good, you don't need anything else. I prefer the "line" method over the "dot" method, it ensure you get better coverage over the four cores. Just make sure your line is in the correct axis. I think there are instructions at the Arctic Silver site...

    Deciding on the Corsair H50

I have my i7 920 overclocked to 4 GHZ, on a P6X58D - Premium, cooled by a $30 Coolermaster Hyper 212 plus. Admittedly, my voltage is pretty low compared to most others (1.21 vcore), but from the reviews I have read, the H50 is not quite as good as a higher-end air cooler like the Noctua...

My Coolermaster ATCS build. How's my fan setup?

Just finished my build in an ATCS 840 last week also. The case has good airflow using stock fans, but I added three additional 120mm fans (two behind the drive bays, and one on the bottom of the case). I also added a Scythe fan controller, which controls the three non-stock fans PLUS the...

ASRock X58 Extreme 3 V.S. Rampage II GENE

While lots of people have had good lock with Asrock, unfortunately I was not one of them. I had to RMA my Asrock because it would not see my memory when I tried to install more than one stick. I swapped it for an ASUS P6X58D - Premium, no regrets. If I was buying today, I'd probably look for...

    ASUS P6X58D vs. P6X58D-E

A couple more things (none of them deal breakers)... P6X58D - E doesn't have the "reset" button, the little extra fan for spot cooling, but it DOES have a better SATA III controller, allowing RAID for SATA III drives (unlike the Premium, which will only do RAID with SATA II). Also, I heard...

    Nvidia fan regrets ATI purchase

No problems running my 5870 with the latest Catalyst. You need to do a thorough job of getting rid of previous video drivers when you install newer drivers. Moreso if you are swapping out an Nvidia for an ATI.

    ASRock X58 Extreme ($170) versus Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R ($200)

I bought an Asrock X58 Extreme for my new build about a month ago. Couldn't get it to POST with 3x2GB sticks of Corsair DDR3 1600C7, although I could manage it with 1 stick (regardless which of the 3 sticks). Ended up RMA'ing the board back to the Egg, and moved up to the Asus P6X58D Premium...

is the GTX 260 better than the ATI 4850

If I was buying a card today, I'd spend an extra $25 to $50 for 1GB VRAM instead of 512MB. Generally, I agree that 512 is OK if you game at 1680, but 1GB gives you some flexibility to splurge on that 24 inch monitor sometime in the future and crank up the resolution. But that's just me. $25...

Budget is tight - how bad of an idea is 720p?<

Let your own eyes be the judge. When I started shopping for my flat screen, I had no preconceived notion of what was good, better or best. I just shopped around and compared actual TV's in actual stores with a variety of HD Content. Without even knowing whether it was 720P or 1080P, LCD or...

    GTX280 Vs HD4870 - Help me decide!

I wouldn't recommend a GX2 over a 280, due to the memory issues that he's worried about. The GX2, while having 1GB total memory, has only 512MB useable VRAM due to the way SLI works. That, coupled with its 256 bus and GDDR3 make it a worse choice for hi-res gaming than the 280 or the 4870...

    GTX280 Vs HD4870 - Help me decide!

Remember... the 4870 has GDDR5 ubermemory.... from Anand's review: "Priced at $299 the Radeon HD 4870 is clocked 20% higher and has 81% more memory bandwidth than the Radeon HD 4850. The GPU clock speed improvement is simply due to better cooling as the 4870 ships with a two-slot cooler. The...
