    Nuclear Multi-Core CPU benchmark

Yeah, it's so hard to resist cracking a joke at a nuclear disaster that caused the deaths of countless innocent people who just minded their daily lives. Piece of shit. Please, ban me. If scum like you roams this site as a mod I don't want to be associated with it.

    GT300 Taped Out

Man, it's slowly getting heated. I can't wait for the new series to come out and watch them duke it out. I had expected nVidia to beat ATi for quite some time after the HD2900 debacle (and they did), but this is the first time where it could go either way if you ask me. Edit: The current...

    ATI 4860 in the works

The only difficulty I see here, again, is for the uninformed consumer. We could care less if there's 10 more cards in different performance positions, since we always know what we want and can afford. If you think a 4860 is enough and you don't need the extra power from a 4870 or 4890, then...

    what CPU to choise

If you couldn't tell a difference between a Q9400 and an i7, then I doubt you will tell a difference to a six or eight core processor. Since it simply doesn't get that much faster anymore. So no, I think the i7 9XX range will still be high end next year. The only chips that Intel is...

Still not sure about Load Line Calibration

I know roughly what Load Line Calibration does, and the risks involved. But as I understand it, there shouldn't be a problem with using it with relatively low voltages. Is it safe to use 1.25V and Load Line Calibration on my Core i7? That's what I need to get 4GHZ stable.

any tips for making 4.5 i7 920 stable?

It scales voltages up yea. I don't know on what basis but it could bump up your volts to 1.3V or above from my experience. LLC is Load Line Calibration, a feature in your BIOS. Use it for relatively low volts like 1.25V to stabilise and eliminate Vdroop. I need to either use LLC at 1.25V to...

any tips for making 4.5 i7 920 stable?

What volts are you currently using? I strongly suggest not leaving CPU and QPI at Auto at these frequencies, that could bode terrible things. Try 4.0GHZ with 1.25 LLC enabled and go from there.

AMD beliefs: DirectX 11 Radeons pleasantly fast

Which means they could sell a new card that is terribly overengineered and overspec'd, and outperforms ATi's best card by a large margin, at half the cost of what the top-end card would normally cost, losing 50% of profit but effectively rendering ATi's entire card lineup useless.

    Sennheiser HD280 vs HD497

An insane value would be the HD595 or HD555. Considering the price difference between them and the HD600 series, they are the best bang for your buck by a long shot. I can't speak for the HD497 as I never used it but the HD280 is a decent set.

    The i7 of course.

    Worried about i7 heat.

Fair enough, I admit I wasn't aware of that. Still, I find it far fetched to make implications and recommendations on whether the "current" i7 or the "new" i7 will be a better buy. I think there will be a bigger divide between i5 and i7 than i7 and i7.

    Worried about i7 heat.

That quote can be interpreted various ways, but even if they call a stripped down Bloomfield on Lynnfield basis a Core i7, there is no further mention of chipset whatsoever. There could be an X58 S1156 in the making, or there could be a Lynnfield "Core i7" for the Socket 1366. My point is...

Read what we are talking about. He claims there will be a Core i7 built for P55 Socket 1156 architecture that isn't dubbed Core i5.

    Worried about i7 heat.

Until you point me to a press release, this is unconfirmed rumor and nonsense. Stop trying to validate your theory without proof.
  19. J

    Worried about i7 heat.

You're clearly a moron. The "i7 on P55" you so happily claim exists IS THE CORE i5. I'm sick of arguing with an idiot, please take your crap elsewhere and stop confusing newbies.
  20. J

    Worried about i7 heat.

Direct me to that press release if you would. What you speak about is a rumor at best. The latest word was: "Currently, Core i7 processors use the new socket 1366, while in the third quarter of 2009, Intel will launch Nehalem-based mainstream desktop PC processors based on socket 1156."...

    Worried about i7 heat.

Okay, I've seen you go around spout this too many times. Your understanding of the i7 is incorrect whereas the "new i7" is not the i5 or i3. The Core i7 is NOT compatible with P55 chipsets and motherboards, the Core i7 is a Socket 1366 processor and will always be one, while the i5 (and i3 I...

AMD beliefs: DirectX 11 Radeons pleasantly fast

No it isn't. I'm surprised how this keeps coming up. The 4870 is comparable to the GTX 260, the 4890 is comparable to the GTX 275. That is why the GTX 275 was released, to have a counterpart to the 4890. I'd still buy a 4890, but that's beside the point. I love how people make their own...

AMD beliefs: DirectX 11 Radeons pleasantly fast

    1. That mid range part, HD4890, came out well into the lifecycle of the GTX 280/285. 2. The fastest single chip card was the X1950XT back then, and it is the GTX285 today. 3. Price/Performance ratio was never even mentioned. You're using double standards and measuring who "won" which...

GTX 260 or worth the upgrade to 275?

No, not by a long shot. Instead of a 275 I'd recommend a HD4890. But a 260 would do fine for what you're intending to do anyway.

Best graphics solution in $300-$400 range?

Uh, x58 except for one board that I know of always supports CF and SLI since it's an Intel chipset.
  27. J

Best graphics solution in $300-$400 range?

Sorry but I strongly disagree with those values. The 4890 is comparable to the GTX 275: http://hardocp.com/article.htm...w3LCxoZW50aHVzaWFzdA== The GTX 285 is simply more powerful, and I have no idea how the FPS scores are so inflated.
  28. J

Best graphics solution in $300-$400 range?

A GTX 285 is more powerful than a 4890, especially when you enable filtering and play in higher resolutions. Some people simply don't like dual-GPU solutions, that's all.
  29. J

Best graphics solution in $300-$400 range?

But the performance gain is much higher. Two GTX285 should rip the hell out of three 4890's. Besides that, a single GTX 285 is a much more healthy option than going Crossfire directly. Don't you prefer single-card solutions? I sure do. I don't think there's anything wrong with the 4890...

Best graphics solution in $300-$400 range?

Wow, CF, now CFX, not everyone has a 1.2kW power supply you know. I recommend a single GTX 285, although I'm not entirely certain what the prices are in the US for that card. Get a single 285 and if you need more power in the future, you can buy another one then. It will boost your...

    New i7 Rig - DDR3 1600 Posting as 1066 Mhz - Help?

The best way is to just change the memory multi, as previously suggested. That way you don't need to overclock anything and can run your RAM at the rated speeds - but don't forget to set its other values accordingly e.g. voltage and timings.

AMD beliefs: DirectX 11 Radeons pleasantly fast

I'm not saying they weren't, but any connection between AMD and ATI at the time was coincidence and still is today. One can't afford to alienate another market, that's why the best GPU will always perform better with the stronger CPU. The new ATI card won't perform better with a PH2 than it will...

    I just upgraded to the 4890 from a 7900GT.

AMD beliefs: DirectX 11 Radeons pleasantly fast

As I said, that was because AMD had the upper hand in CPUs at the time. It had nothing to do with AMD and ATI actively pursuing anything. The next generation, it could have gone either way and AMD + nVidia could be the better combo. It's always just a matter of whether Intel or AMD and ATI or...

AMD beliefs: DirectX 11 Radeons pleasantly fast

Are you just saying that ATi may have had a better generation than nVidia and at the same time AMD did too? Because back then that wasn't at all related to ties between AMD and ATi, and it still isn't even if it happens nowadays. It's coincidence at most. Plus, whoever has the fastest CPU...

AMD beliefs: DirectX 11 Radeons pleasantly fast

I don't think there's any doubt that the new series will be a worthwhile upgrade over all current cards, but the unknown is whether they aim to (and can) beat nVidia's new highend and overall models.

    Which cable do I need?

I didn't mean it was completely unimportant, but SATA cables support fast enough speed to cater to SATA 1, 2, and I think even 3. I don't know its exact limitations, but they aren't on the end devices at the moment, especially considering you don't operate at interface speed due to the fact...
