Extremely low framerates with 4850 in Vista x64

Heh, I feel stupid. Turns out my PSU just isn't good enough. I'm running on my friend's 650W PCP&C, and it's performing exactly as it should now. I didn't realize lack of power could make a card run slowly (I figured it'd be all or nothing). I guess I'll have to buy a replacement PSU. Thanks for...

Extremely low framerates with 4850 in Vista x64

I did not do a fresh install. I uninstalled my drivers, and reinstalled. I'll reformat if nothing else works, but that's a last resort. I didn't see any new updates after I installed the card (I had already gotten all available updates prior to this). Thanks for the suggestion though, I just...

Is the E4500 still one of the best deals?

The stock cooler's fine unless you want to push it really hard. I'm running an E2160 M0 @3GHz (IP35-E, 2GB PC26400) on the stock cooler with a single 120mm case fan (Tricool at medium RPM) and haven't gone past 65C under orthos load. Under gaming load, it's usually in the mid-high 50s. You...

    8800GT overclocking- Vista 64????

I vaguely recall reading something about ATITool not working properly with newer nVidia drivers and cards that have unlinked shader clocks (like your 8800). You should try RivaTuner.

    Opteron 146 + 9600GT = CPU bottleneck?

It's not purely a CPU bottleneck; it's also due in part to the video card. There were no problems with my A64 or the 2GB RAM I ran it with. I'm sure I would've gotten higher framerates with the A64 and a better GPU, though - I actually ran Bioshock on that CPU and my friend's 3850 and noticed...

    Opteron 146 + 9600GT = CPU bottleneck?

In some new FPSs, it'll actually make a rather noticeable difference. I went from an A64 3700+ @2.7 to an E2160 @3GHz on a 512MB X1900XT, and there was a significant improvement in Bioshock, UT3, and Crysis. UT3 and Bioshock used to dip into the 20-30 FPS range fairly frequently, but now almost...

How do i downscale resolutions on a LCD without having then strechted?

There's a setting under the monitor section ("Digital Panel Properties") in the Catalyst Control Center for image scaling. You can scale fully, scale to maintain aspect ratio, and not scale at all (you need relatively new drivers for this; older ones didn't do scaling too well).

e8400 greatly improves game performance over an e21XX?

Harpoon, I'm thinking you're somehow GPU limited in TF2. I play at 1680x1050 (no AA, 8xAF) with a 512MB X1900XT and E2160 @3GHz, and pretty much always stay at 50+ FPS. It's never gotten close to 30. Before the E2160, I used an Athlon64 3700+ @2.7, and it still didn't dip lower than the 40s...

    Networked Printer Woes (Vista)

I have a Brother HL-2070N printer connected to my network. I shut it off when its not in use to save power. The only problem with this is that the router seems to randomly assign the printer a different IP each time it's turned back on (its MAC address somehow changes constantly, so I can't...

    ATI HD 3850

Even at 1280x1024, you'd still want a 512MB card if you're playing recent games. A lot of titles these days have pretty large textures.

Gateway ML3706 laptop not seeing new RAM

Why would it not work if it's essentially the same thing? If it's unbuffered, non-ECC, has the same latency, is the same speed, same voltage, same chip configuration, what else could be different? Also, how would that explain the new stick working perfectly by itself and also being detected...

Gateway ML3706 laptop not seeing new RAM

    Are you sure that isn't just 2 of what I purchased? It has the exact same specs: "DDR2 PC2-5300 ? CL=5 ? Unbuffered ? NON-ECC ? DDR2-667 ? 1.8V ? 64Meg x 64"

Gateway ML3706 laptop not seeing new RAM

I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean by CT651051. Could you elaborate?

Gateway ML3706 laptop not seeing new RAM

This is the stick: http://www.newegg.com/product/...p?item=N82E16820145049 I assumed it would work as I hadn't read of any incompatibilities between Crucial RAM and Gateway laptops. And like I said in my first post, the new stick is fully functional when it's installed by itself.

Gateway ML3706 laptop not seeing new RAM

I recently purchased a 512MB PC2-5300 SODIMM for a Gateway ML3706. Prior to attempting to install the new stick, the laptop had a single 512MB stick of PC2-4200 RAM with a second free slot (the PC2-5300 was much cheaper than any PC2-4200 RAM I could find, and I assumed it would automatically...
