Thanks! I will keep that in mind. I'm also going to seriously consider building my own rig. If I spend a few more days on this forum, I just might end up deciding that way! I built my own system once and it was a lot of fun. I just find it very very hard to stick to my budget when I build my own...
I have a GeForce 6600 128MB (PCI-E) and 512 MB of RAM. Not sure what the specs are for the RAM. I'm definitely getting a decent graphics card. Probably the GeForce 9600 GT 512 MB or GeForce 8800 GT 512 MB.
For about $460, I can get a basic Dell PC with Core 2 Duo E7200 and 1GB RAM. If I add...
Thanks for the replies. The upgrade is mostly for gaming purposes. One of the games I play has been struggling cos I installed some eye-candy mods. Also, i was planning on getting Oblivion.
I used the Dell Service Tag to find my specs on Dell site. I think an upgrade is probably not a good...
Hi!
I bought a Dell system 3 years. It's has a Pentium 4 3GHz chip on it. I'm considereing upgrading the processor, RAM and GPU.
I'm not sure how to figure out what chipset the motherboard is using and so that I can determine which CPU to buy. I'm sure the dual core processors won't work...
Hi!
The Canon Rebel XT deal in back on Dell. They have a 20% off coupon code that became valid today (valid till the 21st or maybe 23rd). Plus I got a $35 off $300 Dell coupon from Ebay for $1.
Stack the two coupons and camera become $684. Add the $100 rebate from Canon and this becomes a...
Just called Microcenter ... new stock is coming in soon ... but the store price is $178 before $45 rebate. Not even warm. I think the web deal was a mistake. Doubt anyone got in on it.
You might want to get a bigger power supply. You've loaded your system with high end stuff. Instead on Sonata 2, you can consider getting an Antec SLK3000B ... it's an awesome case that's only $45. Then you can get a good quality 550W power supply. You'd still be spending the same as you would...
You need to boot floppy disk ... hope you have a floppy drive. With a boot disk, you load up to DOS. You can easily create a boot disk on a friend's computer if he has a floppy drive too.
The thought did cross my mind ... I was gonna try it when I found I had no cable ... the drive I bought was OEM and didn't come with cables ... and DELL didn't give me any extra cables ... I notices the connector on my drive was slightly different than the connector on the DELL drive ... which...
I bought a SATA2 harddrive thinking I'll get NForce4 Ultra motherboard when I build my system. But I bought a Dimension 9100 instead of building my system. I think Dimension 9100 supports SATA1. Can I add SATA2 drive to te motherboard?
Also, does SATA1 and SATA2 use the same cable? The...
Go to Dells' Small Business page ... scroll down a bit and you'll see a link to Outrageous Deal. Clink on that and then click on Desktop, you'll get the 9100 with 20 inch LCD deal. You can customize to your heart's content there.
But my advice is not customize. Buy the stock system and add in...
I cancelled my order this morning (checked the status and found that the card was being sent to the warehouse). The funny thing is I got a message saying they'll consider my cancel request and let me know whether it's approved!!! I haven't heard from them in 12 hours. They haven't charged my...
the coupons won't work with dollars off, percentage off, outrageous deals etc etc items. They only work for fully priced items ... which make the coupons fairly useless ... tho sometime you can get good deals with them.
I'm pretty sure this deal will come back ... I've seen it 3 or 4 times in the last 2 months. When the deal ends, they'll put another deal with 20 inch in its place and bring it back again. So for those of you who are thinkning about getting in but don't want to be rushed, there's a pretty good...
I went in on the deal with the 20 inch wide screen a few months ago. The screen is so wide you don't even need half of it when surfing the web. The text on web pages fits into exactly half the screen (using 1024 x 788 resolution).
The real benefit of widescreen is working with multiple...
Fair point ... and I agree ... rebates are definitely shady ... even though plenty of people have close to 100% success on rebates, it's a mechanism custom designed to rip off people who are careless or can't be bothered to follow up.
It will quite be silly to pay $250 for an X800XL now ... hope that prices will start sliding. If X800XL drops below $200 ... I'll just buy that and save $150.
This system doesn't acccept analog 5 channel input. For PC usage, it seems you need a certain type of motherboard or soundcard to enjoy surround sound. I read even an Audigy 2 doesn't give you a digital 5 channel sound. Not sure what the ideal set-up would be for for a PC using this system...
One of the user reviews for this card said that if you have a Logitech Z5500 speaker system or any other speaker system with a built in digital decoder, then this card won't add value to your system. Is that true? I have MSI K8N NEO4 Platinum and I'm thinking of getting a Z550 ... will I be...
I saw these two .. but the shipping kind of killed it for me. Came to $110 with shipping and taxes. I hate paying shipping ... look all around for a good deal and the shipping spoils it!

Don't think I've seen this low a price for X800. PCI-E to boot. Only downside is that it is only 128Mb and it has 2 rebates. Still, could be a good deal.
How does a X800 compare with 6800. If it's similar, then this is a good deal.
Is using DVI better than using the VGA. Mine is hooked up with the VGA. I know my computer supports DVI ... should I change it to DVI? What benefits are there? Better image quality or better speed?
Call them up and they will match the price for you. That's what they did for me ... it's better for them than you refusing to accept the UPS package. They'll credit the money back to your credit card.
The cheapest fan I can find on newegg is almost $40. The retail version of this processor (with HS/Fan) is going for $147. Not sure how much you can save on this OEM piece.
