Is there an all in one Monochrome Laser printer that will print/scan at......

Hi CorCentral, Yes I just got a Brother MFC-7840w last week which will take 8.5x14 in the tray and scan 8.5x14 through the ADF. I haven't personally used that size, though. I got it for $278 at BestBuy (B&M), but it's on sale this week there for $250. Its the lowest I could find...

    Think I'm going mad!!

Alan, not all coax connectors screw on. Some slide on - right over those threads. So before you change the connector, see if yours will slip on there (if you haven't already tried).

    Think I'm going mad!!

Hi Alan, The RF signal uses a coax connection. I see two coax connectors in the picture, so it's one of those.

    Strange internet problems

First step to isolate the problem is to take the router out of the loop and connect your ethernet cable directly to your modem. See if it still happens. Do you use cable or dsl? What speed? Post your system specs.

    Retrieving data from hard disk

Yes. The reason My Documents isn't visible in Explorer now is because the original user used the "make private" option on that folder. Since My Documents is a subfolder of the drive (several levels deep), when you take ownership of the entire drive, it will provide access to everything in...

Here's a slick little SFF box

Interesting... The theme of that design was obviously inspired by one of my favorite movies (actually a series of movies): "Hellraiser". The little cube was a key element in each Hellraiser movie. Fiddling with the box would open the gates of hell, and doom you to an eternity of intense...

computer won't boot after CMOS reset

Hi ProfJohn, The reason Windows won't load is because when the CMOS is cleared, you are prompted next bootup with something like this: [F1] for setup [F2] to load default settings Of course, since your screen is blank you don't get to see this. So press F2 and most likely it will boot...

    please help

The p4m800 is a VIA chipset, and the 478 indicates a socket478 which takes a Pentium4 or Celeron, Prescott series. So if you can find one to swap, great because we can't tell you if it's mobo or cpu thats bad. Just that when it comes down to the two, its almost always the mobo.

    Computer (hdd?) working overtime! Why!?

Does the problem only happen when Windows is loaded up? What about safe mode? Or at the BIOS screen? I would cancel the overclock for now and reset the BIOS. First record your current settings for future reference.

    Computer (hdd?) working overtime! Why!?

First try running the diagnostics from the hdd mfr. You can download them from the mfr websites. Also make sure the drive transfer mode is DMA (not PIO). You can check this in the properties for the drive controller in Device Manager.

    Computer (hdd?) working overtime! Why!?

It sounds like you haven't isolated which drive it is yet. You can disconnect the data drive for awhile and see if it still happens.

    Realtek ALC888 onboard audio

Good thread, thanks OP for bringing it up. I have the Logitech Z2200 2.1 THX and in the past, music just didn't sound good with onboard audio so I went with Audigy2 which sounded great, and then an X-Fi. I'd love to do without a soundcard though, and have been wondering how good current...

    Random Broadband Disconnects

If the ISP did their job correctly while the OP was on the phone with them, they did a diagnostic which checks communication between ISP & modem. They get a measurement of the signal levels indicating if the connection is in danger of going down, even if it is currently up. If the signals are...

    BSOD/Boot Up Problems

OK, good you found the mskba for the error. What happened with the chkdsk /r ? Did it make repairs? And what other steps did you cover from the mskba? The diagnostics can be downloaded from your hdd mfr website.

2 weeks can't boot off a HD HELLLPPP

The CMOS battery would only be suspect if all the BIOS settings reset - including the date & time AND this occurred after the system had been powered off completely and restarted. Neither of those conditions have been indicated. In fact, ThePiston made it a point to make sure the OP tried...

Hi L337Llama, When you reboot XP, keep hittng the F8 key until you get the "Windows Advanced Option Menu". Move down the menu with the down arrow key until you reach the selection: "Disable automatic restart on system failure". Then hit ENTER and it will reboot. This time when it reaches...

2 weeks can't boot off a HD HELLLPPP

New computer beeps (somtimes!) at startup (randomly!)

Hi fd9, It doesn't sound crazy or stupid. And you're being a little hard on yourself with that poll, too but I guess that's your good sense of humor kicking in. If the problem happens when the system is cold, and goes away when it warms up, it seems like something is making intermittent...

    Broken Graphics Card?

Hi efficient, That's right, its not a good sign if you don't hear a single beep on startup. You said you can hear the hdd on powerup (along with the cpu fan and psu), but is it just a constant drone? If the system were booting up, the hdd would make slight rattling sounds and the hdd...

HELP : PC suddenly does not recognize my hard disks

Hi Jubei, it seems reasonable that the SATA controller is bad. There is no perfect answer of what to do now, its up to you. If it were me and I wanted to upgrade my system anyway, this is a great excuse. But if I wanted to try to save the existing system, I would risk $20 and buy a...

Sorry you're having a frustrating day. Deep down you enjoy the challenge though, right :P Its not looking good at this point because at the bottom of p.12 of your cable box user guide (found at this link: Connecting the Explorer 8300HDC Digital Video Recorder) it says the following...

Quick Q - Why cant I hook up my Time Warner box straight to a monitor?"

No, you can't get audio through the DVI connection. You can get an adapter cable to run from the red & white audio jacks to the green audio input on the monitor, but I can almost guarantee the sound of the monitor speakers won't be adequate. But you can use computer speakers instead. The...

Toshiba recovery discs? (For looping restart problem.)

Did you try the "Disable automatic restart on system failure" option on the same screen that has the Safe Mode, Last Known Good.., etc.. This will break the rebooting loop and let you see the error that Windows is halting on.
